Here is a map for 8. Not a RTS expert, but it seems balanced to me. It has one wrinkle - it's one dimensional in that you have to work your way through all the opponents sequentially.

I don't know what you mean by this. If you mean the AI's, they can find you if the difficulty is high. I was experimenting and wanted to make essentially a one way loop. You can fight the guy clockwise or anti-clockwise (or both) but you can't skip them.

put yourself on red , and team2 is AI on spot green and yellow ( playing mega ). Now start game with fog of war disabled.
Speed up the game with + key and you will see the units pile up very quick .....
Another hint: Big rocks are much bigger than normal objects on the map. If you use them surround them with unvisible blocker units like I did in the example below. if you don't do so, the units walk into the rock and this doesn't look good.
