After unsucessfully trying Glest on the (standard) Xandros software on the Asus EEE pc, I tried v3.1 on an alternative Linux distro (eeeXubuntu) for the EEE and it works OK.
The problem with Xandros seems to be the (old) video driver. The Direct Rendering driver (DRI) does not have the GL_ARB extension (which is needed by Glest). The alternative software driver in Xandros works very slowly (2fps).
eeeXubuntu has a DRI driver with GL_ARB support and so Glest works OK.
Here's a chance for 'Glest on the go' (a bit like an oversize Nintendo DS)

I have compiled Glest from sources, on my Asus EEE PC, but I was running Ubuntu (and XUbuntu) , with the restricted drivers, and it worked great!
