Two types of trees, palms for beach and forest, mangroves for swampy areas.

Improved 2d grass and optional full 3d grass.

3 new maps specially for the tropical tileset:

Tropical island:

A small and simple two player map on a beautiful tropical island.

Tropical Jungle:
A simple jungle map for two players.

Crossed Circle:

It's great. I would make the sand more white.

Wow that's great!
A really new tileset!
I only saw the "yellow sand" tileset, but you also have something with grass?

So here is my wishlist
- I want more different trees (there is only one in now )
- coconut palms
- blue water
- white sand( not yellow ;) )
- grass
- something that replaces the gold stones
- new rocks( or recolored ones )

Does all this come without copyright problems? Is this all free? The textures are looking so very very nice!

( By the way, can I move this to the mods section??? It's really a mod not a map! )

Thanks Titi,

To answer some of your questions:

The tileset has both sand and grass on the same maps. The tileset is not perfect with stock Glest maps and looks much better on maps which are designed for it. I have a couple of example maps which I will upload.

There are currently 3 tree models in the tileset but they are all very similar, more trees will come in the final version.

There is currently a very basic grass 2d  enabled in the tileset (see the readme file for details) which is in the above shots. The plan is to have this grass available by default but with the option to enable true 3d grass for faster systems.

All the new stuff in this tileset was created by me and is free to use by anyone!

Isn't it a better idea to change the tileset the way that its compatible with the existing maps and still looking good? This will help everyone to set up a proper game without beeing confused by unvisible tileset/map dependencies.

I hope you didn't forget this one  ;)
It's looking so nice, please, it must be finished!

Probably you can use ttsmj's terrain textures too:

I haven't forgotten about this, I'm just busy with other stuff right now!

I will try to use ttsmj's tile's if he doesn't mind, since they are better looking than mine   :)

Actually I played around with the map editor (pretty good editor might I add)  made a few beach head battles which is why I'm REALLY happy you made this.

I got a few questions and was wondering if I could ask it here.

WOO-iciow  :D !
Like this very much especially the new isle with water around it. I think i will play now glest the first time on my laptop...
The closeup render shows how good the alphamap and light-balance is of the palms, very impressive.
The block rocks could perhaps turned into cliffs, maybe i can try making a model but im not good at textures.

EDIT: maybe im dumb but i cant find how to download from the site?

How did you make these long distance screenshots?
Is this posssible in gae?

EDIT:
Now I played it!
It looks really nice, with lots of new models! And with nice little features like boats in the sand ,wastebaskets ....
There is one thing which is not so good. The lying statues are too big, you can walk across them. Probably simply using stones for the lying statues will fix this. Even the standing ones are are a bit too big in my opinion.

And some minor issues:
- The big palms have sme kind of white "coronas" around their leaves. Thats a problem I had(and still have) too when creating my tileset. Probabaly you find a way to reduce this effect a bit, I think this will look better.
- The coconunts can get a better texture, and if its possible a bit more oval form.

When its completly done, can I include this new tileset into the next megapack?

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The big screenshots were done in GAE (0.27 last stable version), Just change the 'cameramaxdistance' in the glestadv.ini to a bigger setting.

I take your point about the statues but this is more of an issue with the collision detection in Glest. In the original Glest tilesets your units could often disappear into some of the big rocks  :(

I'm not sure what causes the palm trees to have the white edges but I'll try to fix it for the next release.

The coconut trees were a last minute addition, I know they look crappy atm but I'm gonna fix them.

And of course you can use it in the megapack!!

Good News!
From where do you get your textures? Can this tileseset be released with GPL ( eventually packed with the megapack_v3 ..)?

All my textures come from http://www.imageafter.com (http://www.imageafter.com)

It says on the front of the site:
Quote
Image*After is a large online free photo collection. You can download and use any image or texture from our site and use it in your own work, either personal or commercial.

So I guess all the textures are under an open license of some kind  :)

That's the same problem that I had with my site:

http://www.imageafter.com/terms.php (http://www.imageafter.com/terms.php)

This is the dangerous part:
WHAT CAN'T YOU DO WITH IMAGE*AFTER IMAGES AND TEXTURES?
    * you CANNOT REDISTRIBUTE our images and textures as part of an online resource site like our own, i.e. use them to directly compete with us.

With this, a GPL release is impossible! And I don't know if (a low level) creative commons license is possible.
What I did to fix this problem:
I asked the owner of the site (not imageafter! ) to give me permission to release my textures which contain ( in glests case)  very small snippets and small versions of the textures and I got permission. You should really try the same when you want to release it finally.
( send them your tgas as jpeg when asking, so they will easily see, that it is no problem for them! )

Thats the reason why i started to collect my own photos to release them as really free ( public domain ).
I found a site where this is possible. http://www.burningwell.org (http://www.burningwell.org)
I uploaded my first 300 photos/textures now and started to build up the textures section ( I've got some more privileges from the owner of the site)

Basically the only thing they are forbidding people from doing is republishing the textures on their own site.
All artistic use of their textures is ok. I am republishing some of their textures in a heavily modified form as part of my own art. I think this is easily covered in their own disclaimer as ok.

I understand that this causes problems if you want to release under a specific license. However I am basically releasing under no license. It makes no difference to me since I would release all my work under GPL or CC anyway.
