Title: Glest Community Awards
Post by: Omega on 19 August 2009, 19:56:23
Alright, so the meaning of this is to award people in the glest community for their involvement. It will be done monthly, and a user must have a minimum of 200 posts to be legible.

As well, they must have been online within the last month to be legible for voting.

So, here's the list of people with at least 200 posts:
Omega *
Modman *
Martino
Titi *
Hailstone *
Daniel.Santos *
@kukac@ *
John.d.h *
Archmage101 *
Gameboy *
Wciow *
Enveloop
ZaggyDad
Tucho
Mictes *
Speedator
Firedeathbot
Orion
Josepzin
Silnarm *
Eliminator *
Verarticus *
Madelf *
Weedkiller
Idawin *
Strikershot21

The asterix (*) means that they have been active within the last month.

NEXT VOTING: First week of October for the September awards.

PAST WINNERS:

August 09 - Silnarm

You didn't really say what the people are being awarded for, but this is a good idea.

What are they being recognized for?  Making mods, posts, being helpful, being most influential to Glest, or what?

Man I wish I could vote more than once, because I voted for Eliminator because he has made a lot of good mods, he's now helping me on the Roman faction even though the rest of the community didn't support me, so far he's made some really high-quality models...

Silnarm I'm sorry, but I definitely think you're #2 cause you have made a ton of contributions to GAE, and you created the GAM, all for the Glest community, and whenever someone had a problem you answered with a solution and kind words...

I think many people on that list deserve an award....whatever that award is........ :)

Good idea. I could add a mention of the recipient in the GCD monthly newsletter.

Maybe there could be a little icon below the winner's avatar which indicates they've won the award.  And if they win multiple times, the number of times should be listed beneath that icon.

Alright, so the meaning of this is to award people in the glest community for their involvement. It will be done monthly, and a user must have a minimum of 200 posts to be legible.

As well, they must have been online within the last month to be legible for voting.

So, here's the list of people with at least 200 posts:
*

The asterix (*) means that they have been active within the last month.

Please vote on who you think is best suited for the 'Glest Community Award' of the August 2009.
If they have to have been active in the last month, then what is the point of the asterisk?  I don't know, I am just a little bit unhappy about how I'm not in the running.  No offense to some, but the short 1 sentence posts shouldn't really count.  I know that some people who are reading this right now are nodding their heads in agreement.  So maybe you should lower it to 75, because people with that many who are modding really deserve to at least have a chance.  And maybe elaborate on what the award is, because there could be separate awards and with them separate award winners.

Nonetheless, I (Obviously really) voted for Silnarm.  Though Eliminator has made 5+ mods so far (And I am not trying to belittle that) Silnarm has been arguably the best thing to happen to Glest.

As of this instant (I opened a new tab to check) there are 4 votes for Silnarm (Including mine).

If I could vote multiple times, I would vote for all the GAE team and for titi and Eliminator.

Lets face it mods are good but Silnarm's stuff is making the game beater (There are more moders then there are coders (and I don't know much of C++, C# or C.) So well done Silnarm I think you will win :).

Congrats Silnarm!

Haven't really been around long enough to feel I can vote with confidence but a few people already stand out.

Silnarm obviously deserves a lifetime achievement award with his GAE work, plus has been quite helpful with my posts on here.

Omega has been very friendly and helpful.

Titi deserves a mention as his Megapack4 is the only Mod I've really bothered with so far and it definitely improves and expands the game.

But as this is a monthly thing it kinda needs to be based over the last month's actions and on that I don't feel I can comment.

PS a few of you have mentioned ElimiNator's Mods. Has anyone got a link? Checked his home page, as linked from his profile, but can't see anything relating to Glest there...

I'm voting for Silnarm mostly because he implemented something that the Glest community has wanted for a really long time: water travel!  I think the possible ramifications of this are huge.
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: modman on 20 August 2009, 19:40:11
Omega, you haven't really explained what the award is.
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: Omega on 21 August 2009, 04:26:02
Every good award is exactly the same thing. All the meaningful awards in life are not money, tropheys, or any physical object. The ultimate award is recogonization. You see, the ability to be known and recogonized for what you've done all your life is a great thing. So in short, the prize is just the honor of knowing people appreciate what you've done for the community.

Which is why I've voted for Silnarm. Silnarm has done so much in a reasonably short time. No one made him come here and help us, yet he dedicated his time to help us, and that's why I think he is worthy of this award. Of course, it is a very hard choice, since there is plenty of great people, such as eliminator for all his mods, hailstone for his hard work on the GAE engine (maybe next month?), and plenty of others. Of course, I can't let you guys vote for multiple people, or it may end up as a tie. Of course, you can always vote for your next favorite person next month!

Voting lasts 1 week, from the posting time, so it closed august 27 GMT (ironically the first day of school for me). This will happen monthly, sometime every third week of the month. I'll edit the first post and change the poll. The past winners will be recognized in the first post and on glest.110mb.com (or the Glest Guide).

Title: Re: Glest Community Awards

Explain to me why it starts before the month is over... ::)
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: Omega on 21 August 2009, 20:43:07
Because it is done summing up the entire month. It is not for the last month, but for the current month.

Yes modman, it would be cool, but we'd need an admin to do it. Dunno about you, but I haven't seen one for a while.
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: Mark on 21 August 2009, 21:11:24
So then it should be at the end of the month.  ::)
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: hailstone on 22 August 2009, 01:26:57
Perhaps voting could be the first week of the next month? So voting for the August award would be in the first week of September. Then 3 or 4 days pass and I add a mention about the winner in GCD on the 11th. This way you would be voting on the full 4ish weeks rather than 3 and there is no confusion if something significant happens during that week of voting.
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: silnarm on 22 August 2009, 01:57:57
Well, Eliminator gets my vote.  I haven't even had a chance to try much of it yet, but if we are talking about the last month, he has indeed been prolific!

I'll feel a little bad should I win to be honest, if anyone in the comunity deserves recognition, it's got to be titi, but if I'm basing my vote on the last month, it's got to be Eliminator.

Then 3 or 4 days pass and I add a mention about the winner in GCD on the 11th.

It might actually be better to start voting after the GCD Monthly, then it could be used as a very handy reference, for voters, as to what has been acheived, and the winner can be 'edited in' a week later.

Yes, the ideas just posted were good ones.  I was going to make a topic similar to this on September 2, one with several categories, but I won't anymore.  Except I am still upset as to why it was made with 1 1/2 weeks left of August.
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: Coldfusionstorm on 23 August 2009, 20:50:57
i think this is a little akward, i think alot of people are doing alot of stuff here, and here im refering mainly to the coders, (that i know of) Daniel.santos,Silnarm,Hailstone, Daniel is working on netcode, wich is awsome imo, i havent seen much of silarns work, ive defently seen his GAM beta wich also is awsome, but a little out of my reach since i like doing it oldschool :D, (manually), it makes me feel im better in touch with what im doing. Hailstone ive not seen much of but it my uhm...how to say this, i cant explain this, but i know hailstone is there "creeping" in the forums and being helpfull and in touch with the community. i think these 3 would be the candidates for me, but in relation to the community there is alot more people, for me what glest needs most right now is the network code, for multiplatform.

so Conclusion, i will vote blank, because i cant vote for more than one, and this would be unfair in a sense. also because Glest Community Awards is such a wide thing, im not really sure what im voteing for. anyways, i vote for ALL of glest wich works together on this magnificent projeckt learning, and expanding glest :D. GJ guys

Hmm, ok, voting will be at the end of the month after this one. So september's voting will be on Oct 1 (or around then).

While I understand completely how many people deserve votes, that's not the point of this. The way I see it, EVERY NAME UP THERE DESERVES A VOTE, and many not up there. There's dozens of people who have done tons for this community.

Silnarm: Merged GAE and Glest, did the path finder, number of other GAE coding, GAM
Hailstone: Merged GAE and Glest, doing the GUI, number of other GAE coding
Daniel.Santos: Did LOTS of GAE work in the past, was the core of the coding
Elimnator: Tons of mods
Modman: DM and various help on the forums
Titi: Mod Megapack and titusgames.de
Omega: GG, Military, and various smaller projects
Mark: Help with DM and various help on the forums
Archmage: various smaller projects
Wciow: The dwarfs
John.d.h: GLADE team leader, sun & moon
Gameboy: Elves
Madelf: insane graphics and the tileset

And numerous others that I can't type up in one message.

Well in a little while you can add Roman faction to my place and Eliminators place.
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: Mark on 25 August 2009, 20:49:44
I think that you could get an award, gAMeboy, for being on 0 A.D. (really cool game) and helping with Glest.  And besides your Elf faction is sweet.  (BTW I didn't vote for you I voted for Silnarm.)
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: Omega on 26 August 2009, 04:51:06
I know it's only the 26th, but voting was pretty much all done in the first 3 days, and I don't know if I'll get online tomorrow, since there's school (first day, dunno why a THURSDAY!) and there's football practice, so I am locking the polls.

Congrats to Silnarm, the August 09 Winner of the Glest Community Award!

Hi, sorry for reviving this.

Hmm, cool, I guess there was never an award...but that's all good, because the reward of being active here is having fun...right?  :| usually...
Although sometimes if you are active in the wrong way, then that is bad...
Anyways, cool. Although I am like  :-\ on posting on this thread, I thought it would be cool...and maybe useful? in the future.  :)
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: Omega on 29 June 2010, 02:59:28
Oh, there was a reward, but we forgot about it the following month...  :P

Should these be continued? Biggest problem: Our small community would end up with most of the big posters winning by the end of the year (assuming someone can only win once, otherwise it would probably just be the big 3 winning (Silnarm, Titi, Hailstone)).

Cool? Sure.
Useful? Spot on!
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: ultifd on 29 June 2010, 03:06:57
I don't see why not...oh, besides what you said... but I would have to vote for more then one person...cause not just one person deserves recognition I guess...is that a problem too?   :|
Recognition is cool...  Awarding? Cool too...but nothing to award with/of...
Anyways I just thought this was a good thing, so I revived it...  :)
So...maybe? Maybe later though...  :|

Maybe, but the only problem with that is that if that topic is in the Mods section...there is already a lot...
Also, for some they don't need it...Developers and such.
And maybe others might object this...cause maybe there would be something better?  Recognition is fine with me..
You have a bit much time to look at such an old topics :P
:O Nah... Was checking who was online to see if anyone was checking the board update thread, and saw a bot(ahem, maybe just a normal Guest  :| )reading this thread... ye know sometimes that happens, right?  ;)

Maybe, but I don't think it is really necessary...and some other things too.

Did someone re-open the poll? It was closed yesterday...No reason to do that yet, wait till next month...since June is ending, and usually it is done at then end of the month right? Not like...end...end...like now.

I was thinking more along the lines of simple recognition? Perhaps a custom title (such as how Kukac had his "Banned" one before). Normal members can't edit these custom titles, so that could work well? Biggest problem with the "free sticky" prize (other than what kukac mentioned  :P) is that many of them might already have a stickied topic, or even be a mod (ie: silnarm won before, and he is GAE team, so has moderator privileges on the GAE Board).

Anyway, for now, I opened the poll for 2 weeks, and removed the old people who haven't been active, and added softcoder. Good luck everyone. :)

NP, cept about the one person only...  :|
Cause I really can't vote just for one person...

Some quick Reasons I would vote for somepeople...
Omega: This board itself, being a good admin, Military.
Modman: Not so much on this month, but usually on Dark Magic...good work.
Titi: Megaglest, all the way... some cool maps, if not advanced, but cool, and maybe the megapack itself.
Hailstone: GAE, some other stuff
Softcoder: Megaglest, all the way...
@Kukac@ being a good moderator, not complaining about his account, etc.
John.d.h: Good posts, working on some mods, etc.
Archmage: Being a good moderator, some other stuff.
Tiger: Not so active this month, but I would for his mods, and etc.
Wciow: Glestimals, other stuff.
Eliminator: Mods, posts, etc.
Silnarm: GAE, glestimals
ultifd: nothing...I don't do too much, cept the testing, and giving feedback. So maybe cause I just give feedback...on a lot of stuff? I wouldn't vote for myself anyways...just if I was others.
Gabbe:  err...posts. A bit on mods.
@Kukac@. Oh no, this time must be a bot. No vote for the bot.
Zoythrus: Mods, posts, etc.
Wyvern: the bunch of mods, etc.
tomreyn: notifying us, megaglest,
others: etc.
ChupaReaper: That HQ mod. Good GAE questions.
Coldfusionstorm: mods

Well...yeah.

[1] That old account remained from the phpBB boards, where we received a "Moderator Control Panel" thingy, that was easy to mess up with, and nearly impossible to look after something, since the moderator rights overwrote some things that they shouldn't. That other account was a simple user, that I used for reading and testing purposes.

Well, so that is the reason that one of you deserver the award more then other people right? Well no offense but other people mostly don't double post usually, or make really quick posts that are like...well ya know  ;)
For the dragon mod, I thought Hairy Cat started it...

Well, I voted and about half of the people there...in the poll.
Good Luck, I guess. Kinda pointless now, though.  :P
I don't know any Ultifd out there, so I didn't vote for that person...but uh, cool, seems Ultifd got one vote at least.  :P

After a week remove the people that don't have over 5 votes, then vote again.

:P Gabbe, we take out the OT part of the members though, and the double posting/ "tiny spamming"  :P
But yeah, you a good and active member, I don't know if you can compare to others though, as they kinda have a better record... Anyways if we were talking like that? Then I would be a good person for the award, but I am really not...I think I am like in the middle, compared to others.

Good, but why 5. Maybe something bigger or smaller... I don't know.  :|

Thanks for voting for me Gabbe, I didn't vote for myself cuz I don't think I deserve it, I voted for you cuz your one of the only people to chat with most of the time ;D ;D ;D, maybe it should be people without 4 votes get bumped off :) :)
Title: Re: Glest Community Awards
Post by: ultifd on 5 July 2010, 19:48:45
Well, actually, you are not supposed to vote for yourself anyways...cause that would be dumb and such. Even if you think you deserve it... you know, like honesty, which  I think everyone has.
4? Maybe.

Double post for the billionth time.
Anyways, maybe, but for one reason not to include is that weedkiller does not want to go by weedkiller anymore, or so I hear.

Yeah I know, I am just confused...(I never said you were or weren't though.  :| )

So this is for June? Just a monthly thing right? Because others are confusing/confused me before.
(Even though on the poll it says so, some people make this confusing.)
EDIT: I would vote for Little Helper, as he did release some good models I think, but if we think like that, that is kinda bad compared to others...  :|

Well damm, tried to revote, and now there is a limit.  :( Oh well, for the better I guess...

The problem when it comes to voting is that people have been doing so much cool stuff that it's hard to pick (but that's a great kind of problem to have ;)).  Titi and Softcoder are doing tons of stuff with MegaGlest, Omega's keeping the site running like a well-oiled machine and working on the Glest Guide and Military, Silnarm's got Glestimals working in GAE and various other stuff, Hailstone's implemented basic transport units (and doing his monthly newsletter thing), Trappin's the man when it comes to making maps, and various other people are making really cool stuff.  No matter who wins, this has been a great time for Glest. :D

No it was cause of other people that were added...  ::)
7 is the limit.

The voting has ended, yet, no one payed attention for it. Maybe you didn't have enough money? ::)

Modman, ColdFusionstorm and Weedkiller haven't received any votes. Well, we were watching June, right?

One the 1 voters front the situation is about the same, since 4 people, Gabbe, Wyvern, Hairy Cat and TomReyn got into this category.

Archmage was awarded with 2 votes, and he is draw with Wciow and Zoythrus.

Hailstone, Eliminator and Ultifd received 3 votes. What did I do to get into the same category as them?

We have done a little jump here, since no one was able to claim 4 votes. Rookies. So 5 votes for Silnarm, Trappin, ChupaReaper and Littlehelper.

Omega and John.D.H shares 7 votes each. Is being a board mod that favourable? :P

Softcoder received 9 votes in solo, only one less, as out current winner, Titi with 10 votes. It seems Megaglest has won the competition this time :P

I think, next time we will vote about the July's best, right? If no, that's not a problem either. We can make some stupid votes whenever you want to :)

NO, I mean softcoder is working on MG too, so he has a high vote...

Let's take a look at it...

Quote
Titi has 10 so mega-glest won right?

Titi won, who made Megaglest. And it seems, that forum users think that Megaglest was the best in June. See? That's why the two main developers received 1st and 2nd places.

Yeah, but that is just one thing compared to others. I was going to vote for weedkiller, but then someone placed a cap on voting... I think.  :|
He had a art...concept.
