About Me
I'm Michael "Omega" Hoffert. I am 15 years old, born May 30th. I am a mix between nerdy and jockish, as I play every sport, am 6 feet tall, and am fairly well muscled. I can do basic c++ coding, am experienced in web design, including XHTML, CSS, JS, and PHP. I am self-taught on almost everything about computers, but am very sufficent with them. I am (as I previously mentioned) tall, with a light brown(ish) hair which I often wear ruffled or spiked downwards. I am a Roman Catholic living in Saskatchewan Canada. I am against abortion, homosexuality, crime (except illegal downloading), and spinach (no sh*t!). I am a member of my school's SRC (Student Representive Council) and am going to this years SLC (Student Leadership Conference). I manage my school's technology.

I am a skilled cook, am active, and have a very high academic average in my school. My current average is 93, the second highest in my class of 35, beat only by this guy with a 98 in Phys.Ed (in comparative to my 90). I play football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, curling, track, and a few smaller school only sports, of which my favorite is badminton, which is one of the most popular sports in our school! My hobbies include the sports I listed above, coding, web design, modeling, tutoring others, song writing (lyrics), gaming (I own a PS2, Laptop, 360, Wii, and DS, and am a big fan of the Final Fantasy series), photography (landscapes & abstract), surfing the web, reading wikipedia (and unencylopedia) pages.

Dang, you do a lot, Omega.  Although I don't know about your school but in my gym class if you dress and don't fight with the teacher you get 100%

LOL, lucky. People have actually FAILED our gym class. Our teacher is a pitcher for Team Canada's softball team. He's a great gym teacher, but still marks kinda hard. Lots of the marks are like participation, etc;

Well my gym teacher gives you so-so grades if you do the required, but he gives you much better grades if you do an exemplary job.
We get to grade ourselves. ;D

A few people are saying pics to come, but I don't see very many pics yet.

Nice model, Eliminator.  Didja go a little crazy with the subsurf?  ;)

I always wondered... Are you of any relation to Tiger?  He uses your model of people.

How about you tell us about your hometown? Or your school?

I don't know that sharing such personal information is good on a public forum especially for persons that are under legal age (usually 18 or 21 depending on where you are). I will probably share some information about myself eventually.

Hmm... I'm pretty sure I posted a fair bit about myself in the hello topic, but here goes: My name is John, I'm 21, I've got about a year left until I get my degree in Interpersonal/Organization Communication with a minor in Information Technology.  My first 3D modeling experience was in my freshman engineering class (back when I thought I wanted to be an engineer some day) learning the basics of AutoCAD, which I used for my first Glest models as well, before I learned Blender.  I've lived in various parts of Florida since I was about seven, from rural areas and one-stop-light towns, to the thriving metropolis of Orlando.  There's a heck of a lot more I could say about myself, but... ehh... *shrug*

My current computer: Toshiba Satellite laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2048MB of RAM, 250GB HDD, Windows Vista (heavily tweaked) and Kubuntu 9.04, broken keyboard ('r', 'y', '=', and about half of the numbers don't work)

Don't go offtopic Elim.

@archmage: I'll be posting pics when I get the chance. My internet is screwed, and I gotta go take some too. I don't use my camera as much as I can...

TIDBIT: My HC SD card can hold 7000 pictures at 8MP (highest quality). Beat that!

@Hailstone: That's really for people to choose. I personally don't mind people posting personal details. It has plenty of negatives, but it's all a matter of choice (love and hate the topic). You don't have to if you don't want to, and I don't recommend it for under 13, since laws (at least here in Canada) prevent you from even signing UP on forums and stuff. However, when's the last time people listened?!?

Well, I don't know too much about MP, but I have 2 8 GB Jumpdrives and have been eyeing a 16 GB.  I don't know how many GBs your SD card is.

@Eliminator:  Sorry for offending you it was a joke.  I like how you have it textured and lighted well.

Wait, so you are trying to attract the attention of someone from Brazil?  :D

I am finally getting the hang of middle school.  It has been one heck of a boring week!  In Social Studies we are studying ancient cultures and medieval Europe, so I am going to have fun.  We were given a sheet of 30 subjects, and we were told to put them into the 8 categories we were studying.  I am not going to lie when I say I finished it in about 1 1/2 minutes, and the rest of the class only was about 3 done!  I am also in an algebra class that is for 8th graders.  I was considering taking my Science and Social Studies in the 8th grade, but I couldn't do that.  I don't know, school is just really easy for me right now.   :-[

Hehe......
School is so boring.....
In I.T.(Industrial Technology) class, I dozed off, and came back to the real world about 10 minutes later. I realized I was drooling so I sucked it up, and then the teacher said, "are you drooling on my table.....?". I said no.
Then Larry, laughed and said, "I heard you slurp it up".

That made me quite self-conscious because everyone looked at me.

I think that was the part where he was teaching people how to measure, cause I already knew how to measure in metric and custom, I mean I learned that before I went to preschool so......I couldn't help dozing off.

Ok it all started wen I got digital paintball (http://digitalpaint.org/), In DPB (http://digitalpaint.org/) you shoot peple with paint balls (I hope you new that.) and if you get them they are eliminated, so I made my name ElimNator.) And later on (Wen every one new me as ElimNator I made my web page (http://www.soft-haus.com/jacob/blog/) and I wanted to have a logo so With much creativeness I came up with this.
(It has improved over the years.)

My avatar is the shield of one of my characters in a game i'm making, the "T" thingy is called the triple wave and represents the tide between the islands which forms a whirlpool.
My previous avatar was the Elf emblem i made for the elf mod.

I like physics a lot, and I'm quite good at it (theoretical is way easier than applied).  So my avatar is an atom, with extra-enlarged electrons.  In addition, it's my favorite color, green!

Title: Re: You and your computer.
Post by: Mark on 7 September 2009, 16:11:30
Well, Assassin, you can't generally have any electrons in the nucleus.   ;)

Edit:  Oh, I see.  I thought you meant the nucleus when you said inner ring, but now I see that you meant the first Electron Cloud.  It can only hold 2, but having multiple electron clouds would make it hard to be in 64x64 size.  :-\

I have tried to make an avatar that I like, but I can't compile GIFs.  And I guess I just never got around to it or I would have made one.
Title: Re: You and your computer.
Post by: Omega on 7 September 2009, 17:22:44
How to explain my avatar? Oh this is the easiest one!

You see, ever since Final Fantasy, there has usually been option, super powerful bosses called Omega. Since as long as I can remember, I have been a completionist. In every final fantasy (ok, not EVERY, but 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12) I have maxed all my stats, unlocked every secret, got all the super weapons, beat every monster there is (remember yiazmat of FF12? 50 MILLION HP!!!).

So combined with that Omega, as well as some respect to the ancient greeks (though I'm not greek. I'm canadian, but my families come from Germany and Hungary respectively). As well, I have been writing a book, based on a fantasy style, where the main foe is a force named Omega (whom is very loosely described, so that the readers may take opinion on the view, of course, we don't actually meet Omega until late in the book, as we do not realize who exactly is doing all that has been happening in the world). Of course, I lost maybe 5 chapters in my HDD sweep! :'(

So, because of all that omega stuff, does it not make sense to use the Greek letter omega for an avatar? I customly made the avatar myself by making an animation in blender, then taking individual frames, chroma keying it, and then converting into a GIF.

Title: Re: You and your computer.
Post by: Omega on 8 September 2009, 01:39:47
Wow... Memories of the past. Been 2 months since I've played it (member at that time, but no more... :'( )

So since I SHOULD be staying on topic, let's see what else I can say about myself.

Going technical now, I have always been a big gamer. My favorites are RPG's, namely the Final Fantasy series, as one may have deducted from my last post! I am a large fan of a good storyline, and consider that to be just as important as good gameplay, with exceptions. I am not at all a 'sissy', but I don't mind romance in storylines. Every game needs a few necessities: Lots of action, some romance, good storyline, optional bosses, a WORLD MAP, a hot female lead, lots of places to go, a mixture of dark places and light vibrant places, and MAGIC! So thus, my favorite Final Fantasy game is IX, which ironically was the FF Revival game, meant to bring back the old, and was the last of the old style final fantasies. XII didn't feel as much like a final fantasy, but I still really liked it, since it allowed for lots of battle strategy, and the optional boss was the toughest one I'd faced yet (except maybe Penance in X-International). The fact the characters were all well balanced was kind of nice too.

Away from video games, on to coding, I learned all my programing AFTER getting a bit of hand at glest, so thus I owe Glest for my coding knowledge. You see, after I wanted to make a mod, I learned images, XML, and modeling. Then I advanced to HTML, then onto JavaScript, and then CSS. Finally, I went into C++, which I am hardly a master of. Way later, I advanced into PHP. Since I learn FAST, I was able to learn everything I would need via the internet and logic. Amazing, isn't it, how the most potential tool man has is his own mind? His logic?

At one point of my life, I was hooked to Runescape. I'd play it whenever possible, and it caused some trouble when my parents disliked me playing too much (which was only 1-3 hours every now and then. Very fussy IMHO). I later got addicted to making GameFAQs, meaning guides. I started with an acount on gamefaqs.com, the only place I publish to (NOTE: I tried once to submit Glest as a game, but they passed it over as lack of information). The neoseeker site was because of a guy who asked permission to host my guide there. Publicy is great, so naturally, I agreed. Of course, I still occasionally get emails about some parts don't work because of updates, but I don't update those guides anymore, so oh well...

Well, there. You just learned a little more about me! ;)

BTW: 1500 POSTS!!! ;D ;D ;D

What level were you in Runescape.
Title: Re: You and your computer.
Post by: Omega on 8 September 2009, 19:09:27
I'm gonna continue on more about my self, this time with my school, but first, archmage's question:

I started, like everyone (or at least every honest player), at lvl 3. Then I slowly rose up, peaking since I was trying to compete with a friend for the highest level. Later when I hit 62, I was away for a year. I blame F2P and bad internet.  But then this summer, I was in Regina for a while, and had access to high speed (actually pretty low-end high speed, but for me, it was the fastest I've ever had), so I bought a one month membership. In about a week and a half, I went from 62 to 75, and did some great quests, put every member skill to at least 30, and even got 40 slayer, and bunch of other stuff. Of course, once I got back home, I was unable to play so much that I just couldn't scrape up money to play the little time I got to play, so once my membership ended, I went into 'wait mode', and am now waiting until next time I have broadband.

In a related topic, I get my learners license in a month, and should get a legit drivers license by the end of the school year (novice 1) and be able to get a summer job in Saskatoon. Once I do, I will attempt to purchase Satellite Internet! It wouldn't be cheap, probably costing about $400 CAN for the equipment and $50 a month for the subscription, but it'll be worth it!

Now onto more about me, and not my runescape account...  ;)

I go to school in a small rural school of 475, and that's K-12. Still that's actually plenty large for some of the schools in my area. A nearby francophone school has a mere 70 students. :D I play all of the sports my school offers, which isn't anywhere near as much as I wish. There's volleyball, football, basketball, curling, track, cross-country, badminton, and golf. The rest aren't school but are town related, baseball, softball, hockey, etc;

I am a member of my school's SRC, on my second year, and am one of the 5 returning members, since the rest are all new. I manage all the technology, dances, fundraisers, and plenty more. I am a vital part of the school for that, and manage to fit it in with all these sports. However, I suspect I'll end up dropping some sports so that I'll be able to get a job! ;)

I had this great teacher before. Unfortunately, he had a heart attack while playing hockey last year, and died. :'( It's actually really sad because he was the best teacher in the entire school, and that's not just my opinion. At his funeral, most of the high school showed up, and the entire football team was there in their uniforms, since he was one of their coaches. Today, his name is on their helmets and Jerseys. He was a great guy, and like a second father to some people. The funeral was so packed people even sat in the lobby of the church.

My school is a MUCH friendlier school. While I don't know much about other people's schools, if they are HALF as bad as the media portraits them, then my school could be one of the friendliest in the world! 8) We have very little bullying, which is pretty much brought to a standstill recently, and no reports of bullying have emerged this year yet. Everyone is kind to everyone, we don't have 'groups' like jocks, or whatever. The classes are usually 15-20 people each,  and it's rare for someone to fail, usually only resulting from extreme problem students and people who just refuse to do the work, such as in gym, in which case I don't know what's with them...?

So that's all I'll share about my school. Why do I get the feel I'm the only one here...?!? ???

Wow, your school is pretty nice.  Our school has about 600 and is part of a district of probably 4000+ kids and it only has football as a major sport.  (The school, not the whole district).  There is a school district in the city called MPS, (Milwaukee Public Schools) that is infamous for rampant bullying, failing students and horrible truancy records.  Not to mention how their grade scores have very low standards.  But our district is actually pretty nice, because it is in the suburbs.  And our school is a converted High School, so we have a nice school.

Since everyone seems to be wondering about my avatar, I guess I'll explain it.  Once upon a time (like '05-'06-ish) when I created my first social networking profile, I found myself in need of a picture.  Having none of myself and no camera at the time, I decided to pick something from Wikipedia's "picture of the day" archives.  After browsing through a few pages, a picture (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pavo_cristatus_head001xx.jpg) labeled "Peacock - pavo cristatus" caught my eye, so I cropped it and the result became my profile picture.  The avatar you see now is the same picture, only scaled down to the proper size.

Wow, interesting...

I'm back again to detail my life, this time: Canadian Pride, maybe not so personally biased :o . ;)

I consider Canada to be the best place in the world. There's no place I'd rather live. We are well known as the friendliest country in the world, and are also one of the most peaceful. We've never started a war, ever. But if our allies need help, we'll help them. We are probably the only country where every citizen can happily sew their countries flag to their back pack. We are the second biggest country in the world, and one of the most financially stable, since we are much better than our *ahem* southern neighbors. Sorry americans, but comparing canada to USA is contrasting rich to poor. Your country will be indebt for at least a millenium from this year alone at the way it's going! :o Your president attacked our HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, one of the best in the WORLD! At least Kennedy got it right. Sorry to see he died. :(

Canada has the most stable banks in the world, for the second year in a row. Of course, not all is good, as some idiot calling himself a politician is trying to call a fall election. Besides, according to polls, no one wants an election, 2/3 of people are happy with the current government, and everyone agrees a majority is needed, as they are sick of minorities. So, if an election is called, we'll spend a billion or two just to what? Do nothing, according to current polls. Blah! >:(

We are a well-balanced country. We are the largest producers of Uranium (NUKES! JK - Nuclear Energy ;) ) and Potash, as well as little things like Mustard and stuff. We are the home of the world second largest food producer: Kraft, which may eventually become the largest, as it is trying to buy chocolate company Cadbury and is expanding fast.

RANTING (May go OT):
I am a bit pissed about the american biased NHL discriminating the canadians. A canadian Blackberry Billionaire is trying to buy the Arizona (at least I think it's arizona) Coyotes hockey team, which went bankrupt for 240M, more than double the NHL's offer. What's stopping him: he wants to move the team to Ontario, but the noobs in the NHL are peeved ;D . Hopefully the courts will settle this.

Omega, I think Norway is the best country in the world (except for the atheists) followed by NZ, and then maybe Canada (never been to Canada :(. anyway, India has to be the last on the list.

I've never been to norway, but it's pretty tiny. Canada's WAY bigger. We are warmer and colder at the same time! ;) Canada IS the 'true north strong and free'. I just really like Canada's methods of freedom! Though I bet Switzerland isn't too bad. I hear the fastest internets in the world are there. And CERN is somewhere around there too (I think).

NZ I'll assume is new zealand. Very nice in pictures, but never been there either. Does it even snow there though? Can't imagine living in a place where it never snows... Gotta love it and hate it at the same time.

India is probably pretty bad. I've seen some pictures, and it looks NASTY. I've also seen a bit in the reality show 'Amazing Race' (ever heard of it?). It went through india once and made a deaf man cry! :D Of course, seeing the news, Iran and Afghanistan are much worse than India. And North Korea, and UAE, and Sudan Arabia, and Darfur...

Well, cheer up. It could be worse (I think)!

Elim: So? I don't own a gun, nor use one, nor have any plans to. My dad has like 6 or 7 guns though, and I've never heard him complain about regestration. However, handguns are supposed to be a pain in the arse to use, since you have to notify the RCMP if you want to even take it to the shooting range.

gameboy: sure. I've never been to india, and no plans to. Nice thing about canada: over crowding, what's that?!?  ;)

Well, I live in America, as you all probably know, and my moms boy-friend was in the Army, he was trained in blended martial arts by a master, now, he has tons of guns. A year ago he took me and my mom to the shooting range, and we shot of a lot of guns, it was fun, my favorite gun turned out to be the M9 Pistol, and I depleted all the bullets he brought for it.

I think that you would be interested to learn that almost every single police officer in America and probably Canada carries a handgun.
