Title: Easy problem, easy solution ?
Post by: kardo on 23 October 2009, 21:54:35
Hello folks.

I tried to play Glest 3.2.2 in a Lan but it didn´t work. OS on both computers is Win XP, Firewalls down.
That´s how we were going on:

New Game-> Custom Game->Player 0 = CPU-> Player 1 = Network

While i choosed the map etc. my buddy tried to connect using Join Game->typing my IP

He clicked the connect-button but nothing happened.
Then I tried to connect to his computer, but nothing happened too.

It´s strange because we played Warsow and other Langames without any problems.

Can anyone help us ?

Thx

I don't think Glest currently supports LAN (?). You will have to forward a port. Glest uses TCP port 61357, so if you are under a router or firewall you will have to open/redirect this port to your computer if you want to host games (in the same way as you do for any other multiplayer games).

In a LAN there is no need to port forward. Run Glest from a console and see if that says anything. Also run two instances of Glest on the same computer and try connecting them.

This should work without any problems in a local LAN. If it doesn't, maybe the subnet masks are setup different in your computers. This is something where I often got trouble in LAN games ( not only glest Lan games )
