Hello fella modders!
Its still a wip so all comments and suggestions are welcome. Everybody who wants to cooperate with devellopping is also very welcome.
as first her e is the list of people worked with:
- pheonix, making the undead faction
- archmage, making scenarios and particles, and the cart model.
- eliminator, doing modelling!
- Zoythrus, making magitech versions of the scenarios, and factions.
- madmantis, for making us able to use a few models of his woodsman faction.
- titi, for making us able to use his great meshes;)
- scenariole, who will make scenarios.

- a faction of the other small factions packed together, but this is for the story mode, the AI wont totally get how it would play, because it would keep sending cheap units...
0.5 will contain:
- tilesets
- maps
- the finalised undead faction.
0.8 will contain:
- the full story mode in scenarios
afterwards we will work on linking the scenarios by making one possible after the completion of the other. Also we will work on balance, and maybe some extra missions.

This sounds like a good idea, but Lua Scripting is needed to place certain objects at certain points. For example you can have a block wall and with Lua scripting you can place them beside each other to make a wall.
Though this is for Glest Advanced Engine

Ive made a beta release of the main faction, it will be expanded more for in the story, but this will be the multiplayer version.
Also i want to make variations for the story, which will be like different tribes or something.

Ok, do you want to help me with creating scenarios? Because I definately need someone very good at that. Im good at creating complex faction tech trees ;) never tried making a scenario before, but i can make maps for scenarios:D
Oh and I think we will need a special tech tree for the story with many slightly different factions

hello again, thx for the support allready given. Finished the faction for the magitech tree, except for some balancing changes and stuff. Started today at a new tree: Tales of Ahrkved, this will probably become the name of the story. The factions will now have 5 kinds of recourses at 1 time. made the gold and stone rocks contain much more recourses, and a new recourse, magic essence, which people will need to make the super strong units. There will only be a few rocks of it on the entire map,pretty slow to harvest, and it will need special units to do so, 100 essence per rock, and the thing is i will most probably make the units cost like 50 or so. THere will ofcourse be upgrades for like 10 or something, but these will ofcourse have less effect. In the end it will be wourth using it. There also will be heroes in the story, which can only be summoned event controlled.

Dude pick up naval its great. I designed it to be a little evil the guys wear cool armor. They could have a new name like Nordain, Zurn, Lorog, or really a name that makes sense like Fire Navy, or Dark Avengers

they should be undead (like a horde of undead pirates trying to exact revenge on the living or something like that)
i think that the undead should be a playable faction once you have finished the story (unlockable)

Sure emscape there are so many errors on naval I might as well make undead out of it. I shall change the hunter to shadow hunter. he will be a basic living unit for the undead. This is a really good a idea thanks

I don't fully understand what you are doing emscape. By Glest:story do you mean multiple scenarios files which build an RTS/RPG campaign?
Faction version number v0.2 means that the mod work is only 20% complete?

Uhm glest stories should be like a campaign something like BFME 2 which isnt RPG or warcraft 3(more like the none RPG missions) I hope on making the undead story the army is lead by pheonix an immortal that 100 years of age he is a hero. Pheonix maintains the appearance of a 12 year old kid and his voice has never broken(so I can do the voice without problems)

sounds very cool, I've even found a nice way to implement this in the story. And I think the work is even less than 20 percent done, but the faction(for magitech tree) itself is like almost finished. the name will be Ahrkved. the tales of Ahrkved will be a series of linked scenarios, in which you will unlock one after another. I'm writing everything down on paper now, and if i finished i will type it out for you. Then the real job can start. The base of the first faction is like done for a large part, exept that i want to texture and model a bit more.

Emscape what we can do is encrypt all but the first scenario then at the end of the scenario it tells the code for the next scenario

Emscape I'm not going to be able to do much work for a bit. Linux stopped working completely and I'm going to reinstall is but I'm gonna install kubuntu for simplicity. Both the necropolis and the necromancer are complete the necropolis doesnt have alpha glitches and you can see people through the fences. THe necromancer looking great I'll post a pic soon

well indeed it was in the old days. Now the arkved (tech) are more altered:P and the madera are more like magical and build up from the ground

Sounds better, I started out making faction with no new models, I made three, I'm not going to drive you up the wall with you need new models, because if re-textured properly, I think that borrowed models will look fine.

sorry to hear that, well i can tell you 1 thing, the madera will give some resistance. it will actually do some things to become important, just set the cpu on ultra and it wount totally suck. I'm testing how to make them resist you a bit more. You could test if there is a simple way to make them actually create units

i was hoping for skeletons and zombies...
you know, besides needing new models, i think that the undead (not liking the name "madera", maybe Serojen?) should be equal in standards of being a magitech faction. i mean that if i was to put them into my normal magitech folder, that i should actually have a hard time defeating them on a 1v1.

I think a skeleton would actually be really easy to model. I haven't actually tried it, though, but it seems like it would be.

Hello, guys, Thx for all the comments. I can say that both the Arkved and madera are a bit stronger than the magitech factions. but indeed, I need new models, and cant do them myself. :-[
But the madera arent undead yet. Those only are like currupted by a shard fallen from the sky. they become undead in not too much time indeed, and thats when pheonix rises,(pheonix work) and unites them. So there is a real undead faction coming:) Oh and I agree that serojen would be a better name, Ill change it in the next update(will be 0.27)
Oh and if someone wants to model. PLEASE TELL ME ;)

Well, a more balanced with magitech version will come out for magitech in the 0.3 release. Ill make sure a new faction will be released every 0.05 update. So every race will have a balanced with magitech version at the end. For an instance were going to create a total of 5 basic factions:"
-Ahrkved
-serojen(before undead)
-serojen(undead)
-rangers
-nomads
-desert people
I will expand the info in a further release, because there will be a pretty large diplomacy description needed. In total we will have like 25 playable races, which will be ordered in these five(6 if u count the 2 serojen trees) cathegories... and slight modded versions of those. 6 of those races will be magitech versions. so if u calculate that leaves around 19 others...

ok there is also one other thing about converting, each faction in tales of Ahrkved will have 5 recources, in magitech it will be 4, so thats enough trouble modding

More optional Arch undead will be different since I making it know. It will take a bit to be completed since I dont have much free time. Also Emscape the before undead should be madera and the after shuld be forsworn since they use powerful dark magic thats evil

Ok, well I think I'll add your names in the list of people who help. Particles, hmm i think I need particles for the harvesters, it should be magic spells, but not overpowered looking, more like the initiate attack, but then dark:mhuhahahaha
Since the magitech conversion of the ahrkved is allready in, we only need 5 more conversions in the end, but nice to have someone for that.

Ok, the particle must look like a very basic dark spell, homing at the enemy. It does like 200 damage, and 300 when upgraded so its not very strong. I think you can use your imagination about some magic homing things, but as long as it's dark, and not very strong looking it should be nice:D

There is no way to make a black particle effect, the closest I can come to evil is a skull with a trail of grey behind it......

I'd go with purple using linear at a fast attack rate without lots of energy. I'll use that type of attack for the necromancer. @ emscape
Uhm let me work a bit to clear up some stuff i really need to work on the undead warriors head before we implement him. right now Im still working on a ship so soon I'll cook up the rest of the buildings to get a merely "playable" (cough, cough) faction

Well, sounds nice. I can only ask you one thing, we must have 5 recourses in your faction, so I'll surgest that you use energy for the undead and food for the living units

I shall invent my own resources I am the Pheonix. The undead are risen through the dark arts the souls of the ancients are bonded to though corpses of the creatures of ahrkved. Souls will be the new resource and will be got at the graveyard it will have advanced soul harvesting which allows the worker to build the crypt. The graveyard will give 20 souls but will be a large unit. The crypt will be much smaller and give 15 but costs more.
i wish blender would ask you to save since i just lost the additions and the uvmap i made for my boat. I'm gonna go surfing then I'm gonna try to texture the skull for undead warrior

nicely done, those souls thing sounds cool, ill upload 0.27 today. It has a refined magic essence resource and better AI, because race basic settings are changed in a extra xml, so now there is a pvp and pve versionof each one

Nice I just finished the model for the skeletal mage thanks to johns human body diagram. I's pretty good though my best model yet. Tomorrow Friday I will try to texture the head of the warrior, the entire skeletal mage, And model the arcane sanctum. Saturday I will complete the graveyard as well as texture the arcane sanctum. Once thats done i'll ask arch for some cool armature fix scaling problems and export it all to g3d. By sunday i greatly hope to upload the entire undead faction right here for download

I think it looks very nice, the light is a little pink after my taste, but I am able to make it look a little more red myself, so i think you done a very good job. I'll try and type out a tech tree for the first three factions if i have time today.

Just keep improving your rigs slowly, and before you know it you'll be great at rigging.
Use the tips that I PM you.
BTW, I don't care if you use the Roman models, the anims aren't that high-quality though......

Ok ace frog rigging is when you make an armature or a "skeleton" and set up which bone takes control of which part of your body or model. You can have a flag that has 2 bones one thats rigged to the upper part and one to the lower

The reason we made the Roman models out of magitech ones, was because the magitech ones are top-notch!

You've never seen some of Tucho's pro stuff, I found a website with his stuff on it once, it was a link on these forums I think....
Anyways, your models are boxish and kind of queer looking, Tucho's are perfect.
Your Textures are basic, and sometimes weird looking, and Tucho's.........I don't know if I could imagine much better textures!
Your animations are.....a......not so great, and Tucho's are just about perfect, he makes a few little mistakes every now and then, but everybody makes mistakes, especially with complicated stuff like modeling texturing and animating well.
No offense, but I'm merely stating facts, you're the one who made the comparison. :-\

Your using linux or windows? windows just reinstall works fine(remember to back up your mods). Linux learn about root then reinstall or run kpackage with kubuntu hit alt+f4 and type in kdesu application name and you have all acess

Blender is complicated, but once you get into it, as John said: "I wish all my programs were designed the same way"(something like that).
I tried using this other modeling program once, you had to click on the rotation tool to rotate and each tool for each thing. God I hated that.
I'll take a look at Wings 3D and tell you if it's any good.

No, Wings 3D is kind of strange, it's definitely not as easy to use as Blender!
Rotating takes to long, in Blender I can rotate fast and start editing the mesh again, but in Wings 3D you have to do a MMB click and then you can rotate and then you have to click the LMB, it gets quite annoying.
Can you even texture or animate in Wings 3D?

If I remember correctly, Wings3D is just for modeling, not animation, so it seems a little pointless to learn a program just for modeling. Plus, no G3D script... so yeah...

I would recommend PMing John to learn about Blender, I'd say he's the most advanced modeler that uses Blender.
If you want to PM me, here's what my skills are(so you'll know what to expect):
Modeling: Good
Texturing: Barely able to...
Animation: Very Good
You obviously have to start at modeling, and then you can move to either texturing or animation, but I recommend you do texturing because you can already create a texture, you just don't know how to unwrap the model in Blender, once you learned unwrapping then you need to learn how to apply the texture, then you'd probably want to move on to animation.
Good Luck! Remember PM either me or John, or maybe both, for assistance.

ok i will, i have holidays in two weeks, so a lot of time to learn stuff, texturing is something i can do, i allready have experience with uv maps and stuff, so that makes it easy for me...
only animating and riging will be difficult.

It's hard at times, I'm pretty good at it, but the AI is very good, that sneak up behind you, and they can shoot extremely accurately!

Emscape I'm kinda lazy on undead right now. I got a new human for the necromancer and zombie worker also I have a skeleton which will be used for skeletal mage skeleton warrior and (new) skeletal hunter. I just feel like modeling something new away from zombies. I'd be happy to model and texture a building or an advanced unit.

i think yes, Well i know one nice thing to make for you, you could choose:
- desert cavalary
- a much bigger desert cavalary(like the mumakil in LOTR, but then not elephants) u can decide the animal.
- a really evil elite unit
I think those are the nicest ones to do

Just don't make complex techtrees :P
I had a test faction before and that my miners and builders could turn into an attacking unit... All the enemy did was that and eventually I won.

THe AI is simple, look at how to acts when playing a faction(that the AI doesn't have trouble with), and then watch a faction where it does have trouble, watch the AI play Elves was how I first fixed the AI, although it's screwed up again, I'll have to fix it again.

yes, there are a few, the inquisitor is a new puppet with a mace, and there are a few coming, also retexes of existing units and units of other factions.
more new models will come...

ok the AI of the Arhkved faction works again, and the basics(everything except for the balancing) is almost finished. It will not contain the dark units, but will need food to survive and has the imperial officer. The weaker melee unit for the last generation...

tomorrow is the big day, I made 3 of the 4 allready created AI work properly, so a version 0.29 is coming! I will need someone (or more people) who is able to test it, and if anyone has got some models I can use for the nomads faction, please tell me, because it doesnt have any new buildig models at all... :|

I promise it will be mayhem, i created a special map for this, because everyone wantses to use big surfaces for their camps, yet with some tactical spots.....

But the bad thing is that I experienced...unbalanc..ity? :|
And in my case the CPU(s) did not even really attack each other, only me and my ally... ::)

mmm, i balanced the AI on CPU(mega) (cos that is what reallly counts i think) but the serojen(next update) have not so good AI, but if I make them better, i get the problem it will become too good for players. But i think you had bad luck, I only made the factions suitable for the AI, not changing it by code, so i dunno what could be the problem at your place:(

Well, I use windows, so I use camstudio...you might have some issues though, such as recording audio, but usually that can be fixed...I mean, I fixed all of my problems concerning the recorder at least... ::)

I'm experiencing trouble uploading, filefront doesnt work properly at the time:S I'll try again soon!, btw I'm working on a fifth faction, wich will contain smaller factions for the story mode, but balanced for multiplayer :D am creating a few scenarios now:D

A lot of people prefer MediaFire (http://mediafire.com), and that's what I use. You technically don't need an account for either of them, but having one allows you to keep track of your files a lot better (and delete old ones). Filefront isn't bad either.

Yeah, it is either Mediafire or Filefront. Problem with Mediafire is that the uploads are only up to 200 mbs. No other problems though, usually, besides for advertisements, but they are on all upload service sites.
Or you could always try Dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/) ... So, these 3 are what usually works for the Glest Community. There are others, but they got more advertisements, wait times, more limits, etc...

Okay, I played it. I thought it was okay, but a couple big problems:
1. It is 190 MB. You don't 6 factions. Get rid of 3 or 4 or 5. Also, you have a whole lot of unnecessary files. I bet you could cut the file size in half if you removed some of those textures.
2. New models: you have like 3 new models over 6 tech-based factions. The officer model is okay, but you really need new ones. Badly. Their used to be a user named Verarticus who did the exact same thing. His mods were fun, but after about 2 games you got tired and quit.
3. Tech-based factions. All the factions are based on tech. Few of the factions seem very unique, and the names are not intuitive at all.

The Ahrkved are supposed to be a bit tech like, because the player needs(i think) to have a basic faction to get into the story and then the harder factions will unravel themselves.
I will "clean" the mod of unneccesairy files
I don't like the other factions faction myself, but I don't know how to integrate it in the story mode elseways. They are mainly for missions.
I'm still adding models to the factions ;) The ahrkved still keep some of the tech models, but I'm still searching for models for the other factions.

I can always use some help, I currently have 2 maps for the mod, so any mapping help is welcome. It is very important to make large main campsite eareas, the rest is exactly the same as with the ormal mapmaking

OK theres a few things i need to know. How Manny players should be on the map and what kind of setting should the maps be. Ex. Mountain Rivers Oceans lakes you get the point. Theres a few maps i made already that are in the forums you can look at those if you would like, but i am always willing to make new maps.

The kingdom will have all kinds off maps, so you could pick whatever kind you like. It has snowy mountains, wide forests, vast deserts, grasslands oceans rivers, but few lakes.
