Ok So no one probably rememebers me, I was here a long while ago for a short time because I couldn't get the model format right and I had little to none scritpting knowledge.
I also made noob posts like this where is didn't know what I was saying but trying to sound progressive.
https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=4442.0;topicseen
Anyway new screenshots look alot nicer now, I'm proud.
Also I came hoping there is an easier way to get the right file format, is this how it is now?

Welcome back.
Also I came hoping there is an easier way to get the right file format, is this how it is now?
I don't really know about your problem, can you elaborate?
-
Is this what you're asking: "Is it there any easy way to get models into the right format for Glest?"?
If so, then yes it's actually really easy. You do have to use Blender or 3DS to export the model, but you can actually make the model in whatever program you want as long as it exports to a format that Blender can import. This includes wavefront (.obj), collada (.dae), and many others. Once you create the model in your program, export it, import it into Blender, and then export it as a Glest model (g3d) format. Simple.
What program do you use, anyway?
-
of course, import/export chains invariably causes glitches occasionally. Always check the results carefully.
-
I use Wings3d for modelling which I find great for poly work between 4-1000
It Exports .obj, .dae, .3ds and alot more.
I actually had alot of trouble getting the blender g3d exporter to work at all, but Im pretty sure I can get it now.
So Get Blender
Download the plugin for the exporter?
Do all the chain work.
And I should be good?
Edit:
So I was looking at things on wiki, so there is an exporter script and a converter script? I don't understand that seems kinda excessive. Shouldn't I just need to export the model in blender and poof it worksin glest?
-
You use Windows right?
-
Yes Sir
-
Then you can just download Blender with pre-installed G3D stuff here (https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=3814.0)(bottom of the first post).
-
Alright Thank you,
If This works then I'll be right on my way modding.
Edit: Yep, shes working fine.
Finally now I can get to work on this. Guess soon I have to make my wip post on my new faction
-
We really don't need new factions, we have mods on hold, and mod that people just don't work on anymore, we need people to devote their skills to the completion of unfinished mods.
-
Where do I find these uncompleted mods.
-
Ok so when I exported from Blender with the download blender you showed me, it created xml files. That doesn't seem right?
-
Exporting in Blender is easier than your making it!
Click: File>export>G3D XML Exporter 1.1(or something like that), also if you get confused about which one to pick, pick the G3D one that has 1.1 in it.
-
Haha thats what I did son, both of them come out as XML
-
Well, you're doing something wrong.
