Title: Installation Error - MiniDumpWriteDump
Post by: silicaroach on 26 January 2010, 02:15:10
Hello all.  I'm running an Athlon AMD 64, 2 GB, with Win  2000 SP4 and latest updates.  I have downloaded the binaries for both 3.2.1 and 3.2.2.  I have tried installing each one.  In both cases the installation appears to go well.  However when I try to launch Glest from the desktop icon, I get the following message:

"The procedure entry point MiniDumpWriteDump could not be located in the dynamic link library dbfhelp.dll."

Not even sure where to begin to look.  Any ideas?  I saw something similar in the forum but the posts were talking about compilation problems and so did not seem relevant to my situation.

Note 1: I have a laptop running XP and installation of 3.2.2 was problem free.

Note2:  I am running AVG anti-virus (free ver.) and Sunbelt Pers Firewall; both are current.

Looks like a dependency problem, but I'm sure you've already worked that out for yourself.

AFAIK glest does not have a file called dbfhelp.dll so it may be an OS depedency?

Glest has had very little testing on Win 2000 as most people use XP/Vista/7.

Silicaroach, I suggest you either get a newer version of Windows, or use Linux.

Actually I thinnk he just has to upgrade that specific DLL. It can be freely downloaded from Microsoft.

Are you sure it's dbfhelp.dll, not dbghelp.dll? As far as I can tell, there is no such thing as dbfhelp. Interestingly, dbghelp.dll is used for debugging. A quick google search revealed that some games may not play without it.

Download and install this executable from microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx#a

That should do it. If not, please post the error again (if changed) or a pic of the error.

Sorry.  Tried it and get the following:

"The procedure entry point MiniDumpWriteDump could not be located in the dynamic link library dbghelp.dll"

Matters not.  I'll be upgrading to Win7 in a month or two and it will likely all work fine.  Thank you anyways.  Cheers.
