First of all, I really don't see the point in this site, since it's just a much poorer version of the forum we're already on and uh... I hate to break it to you, but your XML editor is redundant since there have already been TWO programs made for the exact purpose of editing Glest's XMLs (one by Silnarm and one by Omega) that were done pretty well, and yours crashed the moment I opened it.  I'm pretty sure that constitutes a fail.  I'm not trying to belittle your efforts, since I figure you probably put a fair amount of work into all this, but it sounds like you need to go back to the drawing board.

Edit: Here's the error message, by the way.

What we really need is a mod planner/creator, to make plans for the mod, and then you link the models into each unit and all that crap, then once you're done linking everything up and all that, you click the compile button and the program copies all the needed files and compiles it all into a mod, then it would ask you where you want to save the mod, that would be a really neat and useful program.

That's why I said "I'm not trying to belittle your efforts."  I think it's great that people are trying to make cool stuff for Glest and the community.  I just think the effort was a bit misplaced.

I didn't say it was ugly (although it is), but I'm not registering for another Glest forum when we have one already.

Hey and this site is not ugly. If you think it is, look again unless your blind.
I didn't say it was ugly.  I said it shouldn't have been made because we already have a forum for Glest.
Quote
This program is not useless because at least you got something to XML on.
We already have programs for that.

The site is supposed to be battles if you were smart.
... and why couldn't you do battles here or on the IRC channel?

If you didn't register, don't complain...
I'm not registering for a site if I see no point in it.

Like I said, I'm glad you're trying to make cool things for Glest and the community, but I don't think you had the right idea.

First of all the site does not replace glest's forum it is for creating battles and great events such as creating a clan to take over maps and more great events there :)

I'm not getting off topic at all.  You asked for opinions.  Don't bitch at me for giving you an honest answer.  You've only been here for a couple days, and already tried to pick a fight with at least two people.  Work on your people skills and stop acting like a brat.  Either way, I'm done here.

G-edit for the win!

But seriously though, I'm not going to give Glest Network crap for making a new forum. Personally I don't think it will get very far simply because what this community already has. And I don't believe Glest is mature enough for a dedicated clan site yet. But, it could still potentially become something and if it does: all power to you. If it doesn't at least you tried.

Dude, he has a reason for making the web ok, he did not make it to replace glest forum. Its not even a clan site? His forum is for events and for you to make battles. Its a newer way to experience glest on online. Can I ask you something? Would you go far where he is going, just to help out glest, Possibly, make glest fun more exciting? What did you done BIG for this community?

I'm not saying he made it to replace the Glest forum, I'm also perfectly OK with him trying to make something like this. I wasn't trying to discourage him at all; I was trying discourage the discouragement.

We also have a giant event where clan / members can conquer maps and wage war.
You mentioned clans in another topic so I kind of extrapolated on the clan thing.

Yes, it's a verb meaning to complain excessively.  That's what you're doing.

Like I said, I don't like dealing with bratty children and I don't feel like sinking to your (im)maturity level, so I'm done here.  If you want me gone, then stop trying to pick a fight and dragging me back into the thread. ::)

Glest Network, grow up, I'm 12 as you are but you don't see me throwing effort where it isn't needed and then complaining and "bitch"ing, also please work on typing and posting correctly, I don't know if you're American/English or not, but seriously it doesn't take an adult to press the '.' key.

The reason your program is useless, is because there are already programs for working with XML. I don't think another forum is really needed...
Title: Re: [NEW] Glest XML Tool 1.0 & Glest Network
Post by: Hectate on 27 February 2010, 16:10:12
It's a free internet and if he wants to make a XML editor for Glest than I say good job! Who can say that his won't be better in time? What's wrong with having more options? What if the other editors go under or stop being developed - what then? Don't blast things just because you personally won't use it - just don't use it.

And the new forum is perfectly alright. The forums here seem to focus on the discussion of modding. If Glest ever grows to greater popularity than a site like theirs will be needed to offset the volume of users. Here we primarily mod Glest - let them have their clan battles and everything for the actual players. Remember, more players of Glest = more players of our mods. And more players of our mods = more recognition in the game industry. Isn't that what we all want, as modders?

Stop being so negative toward this. If you (and I'm talking to EVERYONE) can't be constructive, be silent. And if you can't take feedback on your work - then don't post it.

I have not yet voted on the poll, should your XML program improve, I will vote on the yes option.

I also think that it's better to say that, currently your XML program is useless, but if it improves, and you can add more features, and make it more user-friendly, then I wouldn't consider it useless at all!

[Please... - @kukac@

But I'm not going to say that because, I know that you just need to grow up a bit more, then maybe you'll realize that you need to calm down and take a logical approach.
I'm also not going to say that because I'm not a mean person.

Anyway, you know, maybe you should take a vacation and learn to swear correctly, just a bunch of random swearing is meaningless, just like money, the more there is the less valuable(in this case meaningful) it is!

Hey, Jda was about ready to explode, but now we're working together again, and much more happily and agreeably than before... Maybe you should try settling this with John over PM, where you can yell and scream all you want until you realize that all you must do is take a logical approach and then he will have nothing to do but agree with you. ;)

One tip, don't be the victim, be yourself.

Now, off you go to the post office... :D

Sorry for OT Kukac. 8)

[You are already doing this on 2 topics -.- - @kukac@]

Yeah, I know, maybe I should try to carry one or two of these OT discussions to PM?
I'm already trying to get GN and John to settle this in PM anyway...
