Title: Requesting Blender Tutorial of modifying glest models!
Post by: Little Helper on 3 March 2010, 06:18:16
I need a video of someone modifying any glest models in blender! I want to learn! I have a model from a guy but when i exported it to g3d it was invisible? Does glest have certain model restrictions?
Thanks!  ;D

I think you forgot to select the mesh when you exported!  Only meshes that are selected (outlined in pink) are included in the G3D. :P

Anyway, here are two really good Blender tutorials.

Thx! But so if like I made a giant model and exported to g3d does that mean it will be invisible?

Most Glest models have between 400 and 1000 faces/polygons, but modern computers can handle more than that without any problem.  I think most of the Dwarves models are about 2000 faces each and they run fine.  One square unit in Blender corresponds to one square unit in Glest.  The human models in Glest are a height of about 2.1 units.  If the model will load in Blender, then it should export to .g3d without problems.  If it's really huge, you can scale it down in Blender by selecting it and using the 's' key.  When you export, if the model isn't animated, you'll want to set the start and end frames to 1, or else it will export 250 frames which will take a long time.  Here's how to fix that: https://docs.megaglest.org/How_to_export_non_animating_models (https://docs.megaglest.org/How_to_export_non_animating_models)
