Title: Where is the .ini 3.2.2?
Post by: Eragon0605 on 5 March 2010, 00:44:51
I can't find the .ini file anymore! It used to be in /home/<username>/.config/glest, but I can't seem to find it. The .config folder is there, but not the glest folder inside it.

Have you played Glest, or installed it on that computer?

Yes, Glest is installed. It won't run, but it never has when the resolution is 640x480. I don't think my video card supports it. I just reinstalled Ubuntu 9.10, and installed Glest through Synaptic, like usual. The only thing out of the ordinary is the missing Glest folder.

So basically you lost your glest.ini?

Well, I didn't really lose it, because I didn't have it in the first place, but, yes, I do not have a glest.ini file, or any other file that is supposed to be in the Glest folder. Well, I suppose I could try and download the version from the Glest site...

Alright, well, I downloaded the official binaries and data, and the program won't start. The screen goes black, then my computer crashes. I recently upgraded my graphics card from a GeForce 9500 to a GTX 260, but I am pretty sure I ran Glest on my GTX. Does Glest have any problems with this particular video card? One thing I am not sure I ran Glest under the 190.53 nvidia drivers. I'll update to the very newest drivers, and see if that helps anything.

EDIT: Bah, I installed the new drivers (195.36.08), and the exact same thing happens when I start up the program.

Here's the package content:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/i386/glest/filelist

There's a glest.ini but i'm not sure if it is used directly. The first entry is probably a script which sets up stuff in your home directory. If you're familar with bash take a look and file a bugreport on launchpad. The package maintainer is not on this board.

Where did you download the official binaries and which one?

Wait a second? :D
Your ini file is in with the data and binaries you combined.
I thought you installed with synaptic. :P

if you installed glest with the package manager, the glest.ini is in your homedirectory  "~/.glest/glest.ini" .
You have to change the reolution in this glest.ini.

Actually Titi, that's incorrect on up-to-date systems. :-\

I downloaded them from https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=4254.0
In the first sentence of the first paragraph, there are the links to donwload binaries and data. Those are the ones I have right now.

Then the .ini should be right in there with the data and binaries. :)

Ah, yes, but my computer crashes when starting glest even when the resolution is higher now. I know it is not my graphics card is improperly installed; I can run 0 A.D. no problem. This is getting off topic, perhaps I should try and start a new one...
