Title: New Windows Megaglest beta!
Post by: softcoder on 9 March 2010, 00:48:08
Ok sourceforge has a "beta5" in name only (won't say beta 5 when you launch the game).
This win32 build should work fine for windows users.

Code: [Select]
http://sourceforge.net/projects/megaglest/files/megaglest3.2.4-2-beta5_i386_win32_bin.7z/download
Report any issues if you experience problems.

Thanks

update by titi: I created a new topic for this, please discuss this windows binary here.
Very important: Does anyone still has problems with non harvesting workers? Update:This problem seems to be fixed now!

UPDATE by Archmage:

Maybe just try a graphics update anyway to humor MegaGlest. ;)

You could probably delete then opengl.dll in the archive (and it will then use the one installed with you copy of windows).

Let me know if that fixes your problem.

I just tried your latest Beta version. It says your system supports OpenGL 1.1.0 and Glest needs at least 1.3 to work. I've got a Geforce XFX 250 video card with 1 gig of memory. With the latest drivers on it that has OpenGL 2.1 support so I really don't know what is going on with your latest MegaGlest beta 5

Current windows version works fine for me in Windows-XP SP2.
@softcoder: Is lua statically linked now?
Title: Re: New Windows Megaglest beta!
Post by: -Archmage- on 9 March 2010, 13:24:42
Ok guys, I'll test it, and then build a new package if we are all cool with this. 8)

It works for me! :D
Title: Re: New Windows Megaglest beta!
Post by: softcoder on 9 March 2010, 15:36:13
Yes I believe lua is statically linked.. I tried to statically link most of the 3rd party libs since having more dependencies means potentially more problems on different system configurations.

Hope this one works for everyone.

After getting rid of the OpenGL dll and coping the configurator and it's XML file from regular Glest to MegaGlest. I now can play full screen MegaGlest on Windows XP 64 Bit with service pack 2 fully patch updates with no problem. Good work can't wait for the new windows installer with MegaGlest beta 5 in it. And as far as I can see you should be able call it full final version. Not a single hick up in this version on XP 64 Bit. Please get the Windows Installer of this up as soon as you can. And maybe you could add the configuator and it's XML file to the program so you can play MegaGlest full screen and not in the Windows window.

Maybe something is wrong with my computer...or I compiled it wrong...but either way this sucks for me.  ::)
Original Glest and GAE works fine for me. earlier versions of megaglest worked too, before Titi "released" the particles...  :-\
Also, the Persians harvest but they  only harvest gold...  ::)
I'm going  to try to compile my megaglest again... *sighs.  :(

First I extract the

you can switch off the new particle effects in the options. Try it without them please!

( Update: please don't call this kind of installation "compiling". If you say compiling everyone is thinking about a c++ compiler you are using to compile the glest source code)

Titi, this is great news for you!

I just did a test with the Installer I built, it puts a Shortcut on the Desktop and everything, I tested it, it ran fine.

Now the really good news: My installation is more up-to-date than Ultifd's, I tested gameplay, I played Egyptians and every other faction was controlled by the AI, at first everyone was harvesting only gold, but then the Persians started to mine stone and then about 5 minutes in, each faction was harvesting every resource. :D

Should I post the installer?

...  :(
Anyways...let's see.  ::)
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit...
Processor :   Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 @ 2500 MHz
Ram: 3GB...enough for Glest. really.
DirectX :   Version 11.00
Display Adapter: Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family
Video Processor:    Intel(R) GMA 3100

any more? yeah...sucks...although I have another computer with better "stuff"...I don't want to use that one though.
But my comp is good enough to run Glest...at least.  :P

EDIT: Post it...  :)

Yes thats really all enough beside the intel onboard gfx which is ... slow , but it should work

Titi, my last post was mostly about the problem...........I didn't see it, everything worked fine for me, all other players on CPU-Easy, they all harvested like they were supposed to. ::)

Installers are being uploaded. :)

Dude, please read, the installer is uploading, and I'm calling is BETA4 not BETA5, because of one of Softcoders comments on his first post.
Title: Re: New Windows Megaglest beta!
Post by: ultifd on 10 March 2010, 02:46:56
Well, I just played a game with 3 CPU Easys... they harvested  :)...but they didn't harvest wood.
CPU easy- Norsemen: Harvested gold, then stone, but not wood. Produced basically everything until they ran out of wood...
CPU easy- Persian: only harvested gold produced 2 "buildings"
CPU easy- Indians: didn't harvest anything. Produced a reed and something else...
ME- Egyptian.  ::)

At least I had some fun.
So all I know, is that "regular" CPU has the most problems.

A while ago, I tried out a game with CPU ULTRA and CPU MEGA. They didn't harvest...
I might test some more later...
Who knows? maybe the installer will work.  :D

Where can I find the Windows Installer for MegaGlest beta 5 link. Would love to have it.
Archmage is uploading it now, please have patience...  ::)

Titi's taking care of Linux installation stuff now, and I'm glad because doing both would be a pain.

Since my Installer is working, tested it on my own computer, and Ultifd says it works, do you mind if I stick it at the first post here and on the first post on the MegaGlest topic? ;D

Titi, are you going to do the Linux package, I can help with Installers, or if you just want to do a 7z then.......ok.........,..ish... :P

I'm not completly finished with the data and there is one little bug concerning scenarios.
Another thing we have to fix is the structure of the svn, which is not made the usual common way.

The minimum for the release is a cleaned up svn with folders like trunk/branches/tags.
But then we will go for it. I will ask softcoder if he still sees any problems, if not ->release .

Titi, please do something so that I don't have to download everything from svn it takes me a few hours, and I don't want to have to continuously do it.
Is there anyway I can download......say....the new stuff since sometime.
Title: Re: New Windows Megaglest beta!
Post by: titi on 10 March 2010, 20:11:45
If you use a svn client you only download the changed stuff everytime! Try it.
But If you want to use this data for a release you have to copy all the files and then remove the .svn files in the copy.

Instead of doing and 'svn export' on the online repo, check it out,
svn co ... ~/my_directory

then every once in a while do,
cd ~/my_directory
svn update

which will update your local copy with changes made since you last updated (or checked out)

then you can 'export' from you local copy,
cd ~/my_directory
svn export . ~/my_export

That said, what until he gets the repo layout fixed up.

Good idea, can you refer me to a good svn client? :D

Windows: TortoiseSVN
Linux: RabbitVCS

I have downloaded the latest Windows Installer of MegaGlest. It works perfectly and am now waiting for the final full release Windows Installer so it wont say Beta 4 and Good job you guys. The AI in Glest 3.22 was kind of lame. After a few games you could almost always beat the AI. But this with it coming at you from more than one direction this is a game that keep you on your toes and wont get boring any time soon if ever.

Who editet the map-editor ?
Could you pleace add more slots for objects, like 20 ?
Title: Re: New Windows Megaglest beta!
Post by: titi on 11 March 2010, 20:23:52
Good  that it works! :)

Well what do you mean with free camera mode? pressing f-key ingame, or switching on photomode in glest.ini?
I never heard of any problems with the ingame f-key before :(

For the install screen: Of course we want a new install screen :) .I think you are the only real pro here, so everything from your side is always a benefit!
------
oh while I'm typing mictes was posting too, good that you like it too!

more slots for objects are not possible yet without geting incompatible(I think). This will maybe be done later when we need to change the map/tileset format to support other features too!

hint for the map editor: when you move over an object you can press space to get the corresponding brush as your active brush!

Pressing f key ingame, but don't worry for the moment, maybe it was an isolated case, it only hapened one time.

And here is a background for the install screen, is not really cool but I think is better than the current one:

And also the megaglest logo in PNG format, you can use it as you want:

I have a thought is there anyway you can make the font in the game telling how much you have of your resources left. Can it be made bigger for those who don't have 20 20 vision. Just a thought please let me know. Or have it adjustable in the menu like normal or large font.

Well, megaglest "works" great now. I was trying out a 8 player game...didn't finish it though, since I pressed the "E" key to take a SS and then since i didn't create a screens folder, it crashed. :P  ::)

One problem though, not only with megaglest, is when the music skips. It can be very annoying...and that it is not only the game music, but the sounds of the characters too...  :(

Must be your computer, I don't even encounter that...

Hope the final MegaGlest is still coming out this weekend. I can't wait to download the windows installer of it so it wont say beta any more on the opening menu.

Ok quick update, Titi and I are testing testing testing to make sure we have a quality release. A few notes about what is sitting in SVN for mega-glest right now:

- g3d_viewer now compiles for both Linux and Windows
- Configurator now compiles for both Linux and Windows (this is a user friendly app to edit the glest game settings)
- Code restructuring and 0 warning compiles are now complete.
- Build projects for both Linux and Windows work 100% and readme files are more up to date to guide
developers regarding how to compile on Linux and Windows.
- So far multi-player testing is yielding solid / fun results. If all goes well a release will be coming soon.

That's it

Hi,softcoder! I do not know what this sentence to mean, would you please tell me, thank you!

Is this sentence: "Made changes to properly isolate new unit rotation code so that it is disabled by default"
Title: Re: New Windows Megaglest beta!
Post by: softcoder on 14 March 2010, 03:51:34
The work for rotating units when placing them (90-270 degrees) is only partially done (not ready for network games yet) so it is disabled by default but may be turned on via a glest.ini setting. I wanted to make sure that work didn't compromise the mega-glest release that will be coming as soon as Titi wakes up from a well deserved rest :)

Thanks

You must be missing wxWidgets library. In UBuntu you can get it via:

sudo apt-get install libwxgtk2.8-dev

Then you need to re-run ./configure and then jam

Thanks

The installer given in this link:
Code: [Select]
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5207065/Glest%20Files/MegaGlest/MegaGlest_3.2.4-BETA4_Install.exe does not work correctly in my Windows 7 64 bits. Executing the game as normal user gives me the following error with a white full screen:

ERROR(S):

Error opening log fileglest.log

And executing it administrator, it tells me that the program has found an error and must close.

I don't think it is a Hardware problem because in a Linux 64 bits it works correctly.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it has to be your computer, if it works everywhere else but your computer......well........I don't know what to say, I built that installer on 64-bit Windows 7.....so........it's your computer.......

W7 sucks xD

I have an ATI card. May it be related?

So with all this talk of possible problems with the windows installer is it going to delay the final release of it in a windows installer. Hope not it works on 64 Bit XP and I want the full and final version not just a beta version.

I don't think so......I just experienced the sound glitch that Ultifd was talking about and I ran into the error that Rydra had.....the solution to Rydra's problems is to change the permissions so everyone and everything can do anything to your MegaGlest install. ;)

I've had glitches with the music when starting Glest, but I don't think I've had a problem with the sounds when actually playing.  I think it might be more of a performance problem than a driver problem, because it seems a lot worse when I have my power settings on low.  Sometimes I hear the opening cymbal crash three or four times.  I haven't noticed a different between Glest, GAE, and MegaGlest.  I guess it couldn't hurt to update the drivers anyway.
