Title: Glest - RPG!
Post by: Zoythrus on 24 March 2010, 20:55:47
Hey, i looked at the "Glest Story Creator" and it seemed to serious (no offense to anyone), so i though to make a new topic!

This is the Glest RPG! here you will create a character (keep in mind, this character is you, so you will be talking if first person) and we'll band together to fight some enemy or go on an adventure or something of that nature.

Rules: no God-modding, please no "I THREW A BUNCH OF NUKES AND EVERYONE DIED! PWND!"

have fun, this can go anywhere you want it to, just keep it in the Glest universe (this includes any recognized mods)

I'll start:

It was a sunny day in the town of Canjouster, one of the Tech's largest cities. Dirigibles and steam power was a common occurrence, life was good. But even through all of this, the concept of an invasion by the magical forces on the other side of the mountains hung throughout the land. The tension was too much to bear, so i thought to take my inventing skills and try to do something about it.

My trusty laptop typewriter click-clacked away furiously as I put my thoughts onto paper while they were still fresh in my mind.  The nations of Tech and Magic would never be made to get along, and the only way I knew to prevent an attack would be to craft a weapon so terrifying that Magic would never dare attack, and our leaders would never dare use it.  Perhaps I was simply a food in my youth, and I would come to regret that decision.  I finished typing my goodbye note and left it on my side of the bed, careful not to wake my wife as I slipped out the door just before the sun came up.  Knowing that only my former master could help me with my mad scheme, I took a coach down to the station and prepared to board the first train to Cogshire.

When I reached Cogshire I took a cab up to my former master's mansion, wile we drove I finished typing my idea on my laptop typewriter.

it took me three days to reach the mansion, but eventually i got there. i knocked on the giant wooden door of the mansion, and in no time at all, my former master was looking me in the eyes.

"oh...it's you," he said in a disappointed voice, "i havent seen you for 7 years...but i remember that before you left, you destroyed half my house!"

"well, you knew that i was a bad chemist! i do clockwork, not chemicals! stop blaming me!" i shouted.

He got this angered look, but then calmed down.

"well, with that aside, why did you come back?"

"Well, sir...", I said, "I'm thinking about.....building a new weapon, and Magic won't be able to stop us, and I think I'll need your help...".

My Former Master's name is Deldrick, and his face got an interested look as I spoke...

"follow me to the study," he said calmly, "ive been writing down some ideas of mine, i just hope that they will be useful against those mystical freaks..."

we eventually arrived at the study, and Deldrick pulled some books from his shelf. He browsed through one of them with this very intent look on his face.

Post by: ElimiNator on 26 March 2010, 04:53:17
He looked up from his book and said "But no more of my house will surfer any damage, understood?". "Yes" I gulped.

We sat down at a small dusty wooden table, he placed the books in a stack at the side of the table, and I placed my plans on the center of the table....
Title: Re: Glest - RPG!

He started looking over the plans, Well, well, well, he said this looks like it just might work. It will be expensive though.

"You better have at least 250,000 diroks", Deldrick said, "else you won't be able to pay for this".
"Well, sir", I said, "I have about 5,000 saved up at the bank, but..........I was hoping you'd help me pay for this....".

That's when I noticed that something was wrong.  I don't know how I knew, but I could feel that someone was watching me.

"Do you sense that, Deldrick?" i asked, "something's here..."

just then the front door of the mansion was bashed down. Demons were pouring into the building, we were under attack.

"quick! come with me to the cellar, i have something that should buy us some time..." Deldrick whispered forcefully.

As I ran I realized I had left my plans at his house, no time to go back I needed to alert the city guards!

well, back to the story....

once i got the deal with deathrun and Phoenix solved, i became really (and inexplicably) tired. As i dozed off, i came back to the dream i was having.

When i was about a mile away from the castle, i stopped and pondered if what happened was all a ploy.

Even as I rushed back I could see houses burning and a shattered battle machine on the ground, I turned tail and ran to alert the others but three daemons chased after me. I was too slow and they caught up but my 40 metal armor protected me from their attacks while my 80-160 piercing attack made short work of the pathetic midgets. He betrayed us I thought and then to my horror I realized that the weapon plans were in the hands of the enemy...

We'd always been able to handle the occasion attacks by disorganized Magic, Indian, and Norse raiding parties, but this was no raid.  It was an all-out invasion.  I knew there was no way we could stand alone against the might of these three powerful groups.  We were going to need help, and lots of it.

I thought frantically,"The dwarves had several posts in the city and were steadfast allies unaffected by dark magic, they might be of help but i feared a betrayal by persians and egypt". Suddenly the base came into view and I saw aliyps and morlocks attacking, some buildings were burning while others were intact, I saw a group of knights, horsemen and mounted archers, holding their ground. They were supported by assault troopers and a single tank that fired occasional shells at the enemy, it also appeared that there was a small crossbow armed contingent of dwarves firing at the attackers, a harpy streaked out of the sky screaming, I stood in horror, but dwarves are more stout hearted and they stood their ground, firing at the attacker knocking it out of the air...

Two hours later we departed, it was a measly force considering the enemies numbers, it consisted of a dozen assault troopers who came  in the rear, a tank, thirty six knights and four times as many horsemen and horse archers(144 each) this was supported by a mix of Outriders, warriors and canoneers totaling about 400, meaning that a force of less than 800 had to deal with thousands of mages, indians and norsemen. In addition some horsemen had come from scouting missions to inform us that the 10,000 soldiers hammering at the city gates were in fact a tiny scout force, I cursed but then decided that the city needed to be recaptured prior to any further plans...

The mages didn't just wait around to get killed though, instead they sent up unicorns and drake riders to wipe them out. At this moment I unleashed all of our cavalry at the rider less enemy. meanwhile the assault troopers beat off the mage cavalry with their heavy armor. The mages were horrified as the tank and the dwarves followed up the cavalry to complete the destruction of their soldiers. Shot after shot rained down as the riders slaughtered the enemy. But the mages still had tricks up their sleeves and withdrew from part of the city to regroup while we slowed down. Dragons, harpies, and eagles flew over from some far off base to destroy us. Despite the tanks defensive ballista, and the fire power of the horse archers and canoneers, some broke through and would have destroyed our cavalry had not some ornithopters from the city showed up and given battle. Then the mages counterattacked...

Gabbe thats spam posting and remember what Zoythrus said, no god endings that end the story instantly.

I screamed,"fire the bombards and catapults, launch the bombers and airships, crossbowmen and arbalestiers get in formation". the golems were getting in range and so I shouted,"first row fire" they shot and ducked down reloading,"second row fire". This process kept on going until very few of the golems were left and they started a boulder exchange with the ents. Supporting daemons and our crossbowmen were slaughtered by the barrage. then the daemons started rushing forward with ladders, morlocks and imps, there were also dark beings and awful one wheeled machines with saw blades.

Oh, were talking about Glest Dragons not Dragons.
Glest Dragons lack scales, and Dragon scales could not be penetrated by any weapons of Tech's time.

I think even today we don't have weapons powerful enough to pierce Dragon scales. It would be cool if they existed though.

THe dragons were hurling fireballs much faster and more accurately than the ambush could muster, the ambush wasn't working.

A Roman Praetorian dropped from a low roof and destroyed two allyps with powerful spear swings, the other allyp hurled a ball of dark magic at him, but this praetorian was the top of his century, he firmly and proudly held up his large shield, the ball of dark magic splattered and stained his shield. He yelled, charged, and bashed the allyp with his shield, he quickly yanked his shield back and drove his spear into the allyps chest, it exploded in a flash of dark magic.

He stood up proudly, and said, "I am Tiberius, the Praetor of Rome, the commander of the Praetorian Guard. I come to announce that we will side with you in this great war. I have brought diplomats to discuss an alliance, if you would kindly allow them to enter this place."

Tiberius spoke, "We have lost 3 legions in this war, we are no longer going to sit back and defend ourselves, legions: 2, 6, 7, 9, 11, and 12 have been mobilized for combat and sent tovarious different hotspots in the lines."
Tiberius spoke again, before anyone could cut in, "I have been sent to organize the main defences of all the factions that will choose to ally with us, 50 centuries of Praetorians will be available to each allied faction. For those of you that do not know, 50 centuries is about 4000-5000 men. I don't mean to offend when I notice and note that the Praetorians are definitely far superior to the guards of tech and the guardians of the Elves, you Dwarves though, you are very formidable, and before I forget to mention it, I'm quite hopeful that we can resolve the border conflicts and become allies with you Dwarves."

Tech had a long relationship with the Dwarves, and the two races had collaborated on many of their great inventions over the centuries.  It was rare for any conflict to rouse the reclusive Elves into battle, and especially for them to take the fight beyond their own forests, so there was no doubt that this was something far greater than the typical wars we'd had with the nation of Magic.

We will ally with you said the dwarf after deliberation, and we will send all of our allies, divisions of heavy infantry, the ents will come to aid us all said the elf delegate and we will deploy our galadrim archers to all of our allies, the tech will provide medicine, tanks, and the one thing all but the elves lack, fire support, the 42nd crossbow regiment, and the 73rd arbalest regiment will cover the dwarves and we will give the romans support from the 43rd and 2nd arbalest regiments, lastly should you need reinforcments during siege you can always rely on the 82nd and 101st airborne divisions being there to reinforce you, but deep in my heart I felt that the mages would not pause til they annihilated us...

"But still," I said, "if the Romans are so great, then why are we farther in technology?"
Tiberius merely grunted and said, "We've had border skirmishes with you in the past. Surely you've seen how ineffective your rust-buckets are... Anyway, we shouldn't be squabbling amongst ourselves. In gratitude of our new alliance, I invite you all to dinner down at the town hall."

He spoke with the chief of city security and it was decided that the Praetor should be captured and tortured. What they didn't know was that the Praetor had really come to get the King of the Techian society and pull him into Rome under heavy guard to ensure that he didn't die, because long before the border skimishes, a Romans Emperor had promised a Techian King that Rome would defend them and especially the King during war, that the Techian King knew would inevitably come. 2 hours before the capture was to take place, news reached me that the Roman Praetor had taken off for the Capital of the Techian Kingdom on horseback with 300 of the most elite soldiers in the known world.

The defense at this city isn't very strong, we're going to need a lot of help.
But he'd forgotten about the large Praetorian forces outside the town. And just after he thought about needing assistance, a huge rain of arrows came pouring down on the mages, in the distance he could now spot Roman legions 12, and 13, pilums flew, Thor's groaned and collapsed into the ground, the Mage's were devastated, they hadn't expected to be ambushed while surprise attacking.
But still it wasn't enough. The Praetorians outside the city moved to block the gates and posted groups of soldiers all around the walls, the Roman legions we're suffering numerious casualties while taking of lot themselves. The mages still advanced, and the Thor's continued to hold the Romans at bay. They were going to need more...

A mechanic came running out onto the field with his wrench, "I forgot to put the last bolt in, sir!". A leg on my BattleMachine came unhooked and I was thrown from it as it fell. The mechanic saw this and ran even harder. One of the Thor's was heading toward him. Meanwhile, The Praetorians had gotten the King, and a part of the force was taking him back to Rome. Tiberius had gotten news of the battle via guards being ordered around and stuff like that, and was heading with 187 of the Praetorians to the battle, but it was unlikely he would get there in time. Meanwhile Battlemachines were smashed into bits as Thors were sliced in half, thousands of screams could be heard, bodies went flying up into the air and then back down with a gruesome thump.
All of a sudden out of the trees came about 50,000 mages along with a good 4000 behemoths, and and about 500 archmages, and standing on a platform carried by his enslaved daemons, stood the Archmagus of War, the top General in terms of the Techians view. There was no hope......... "Retreat!!" I called as the mechanic pulled me back behind the fortifications.

but to our surprise, the Valkyries started to destroy the Thors and the mages. soon, they began to flee into the forest. Ha! the tables were turned. But none of us knew why the enemy was helping us. maybe the Valkyries just wanted to kill us themselves.

After the dust had settled, a few of them landed in front of me and the generals. The Roman guards all rose their swords, we knew that it would be a fight to the death. But the Valkyries had other ideas.

"We are sorry that this had happened, we didnt want to side with the magic; but there was nothing we could do, they captured our chieftain. We need your help, because we Norse are tired of slavery to the Magic."

That is good I said tommorow you can fly escort fo our bombers

The next day was bright and sunny perfect for flying, our bombers and airships slowly rose up with their wing flapping and valkyrie escorts, I was flying one of the bombers, the mages launched some unsuccesful attacks but other then that we bombed their positions with impunity, smoke rose higher and higher, as we flew back the waves of transports were dropping troops behind and on top of the bridge, the defense was poorly led and by nighfall we had captured and fortified the bridge heads...

Elim, the Norse were enslaved, they were forced to build Thors, but the Valkyries were against them because they are mindless beings...(and they were being controlled)

We decided to launch raids from this bridgehead to scare the mages and force them to get stuck surrounding our sector around the bridge, meanwhile the elves and dwarves would cross the northern mountains, bridge the river and flank the mages, also the romans would bridge the river south of us to completely encircle the enemy, then we would wipe them out with our four combined armies, obviously it would only wipe out the mages in the immediate vincinity of our sector, but it would allow us to fortify our new position relatively unhindered, during this the main forces of our roman, elvish and dwarvish allies would make similar attacks into mage, indian, norse, and egyprtian territory... then we would use the winter to fortify our positions as there was rarely any fighting in the winter, then there was something we would do personally agaist the mages, the tech would launch bombing raids onto indian, magic, and egyptian weapon manufacturing and training centers hopefully crushing or at least weakening their numbers and resolve...

I walked over to Tiberius. He cut in before me, "don't think I'm a traitor to the alliance, I merely captured your King and sent him to Rome."
He laughed and spoke again, "I'm joking, he came willingly, for a reason that you are not to be told."
"Why can't I be told?!" I said, "I'm practically leading the alliance".
Tiberius laughed again, ruffled my hair and jogged off toward toward his tent.

I was baffled but despite this we had preparations to make for the bombing campaign

Later that night after the bombing campaign was readied to be sent in morning, I met with Tiberius the Praetor, Lefesdas the Elven General, derikan the Dwarven Commander, and the temporary Norse Resistance leader.
We discussed plans...

The temporary Norse Resistance leader said "I have over 20,000 spear men all hiding in a under ground cavern, if you lead the mages army over the cavern then the spear men will come out and the mages will be traped"

Good idea I complimented him and so I said first and second mounted regiments try to draw the mages over those tunnels, there the norse resistance will hit them on the rear , er from the front and the others from the flanks, so we deployed soon we heard hooves and our horsemen coming back with drake riders, unicorns, and indian horsemen in hot pursuit, farther back I saw the main mage army advancing on our position, imps were drawing nearer and outpacing the horsemen bringing several down and tearing them to bits, I launched the 1st and 45th horseman divisions into a counter attack, they were soon joined by silverhelm lancers, reavers, dwarvish outriders and roman cavalry, the enemy cavalry regrouped and withdrew to report to their commanders meanwhile our first air strikes against the mage cities of Dronk and Drish were being launched with the intent to wipe out the armories there in the meantime the mages advanced on our forces...

Maybe "the elite airships took it down" sounds dramatic and creates a huge battle in your head, but too me that sounds pretty childish, no offense. :-X

Another creature came, but it was in full battle armor, the airships were nothing for it, smashed them into bits sending the pilots flying, and raining shattered wood all over the troops below.
Hundreds of troops got slammed into flight, the archers were useless against the thing and even the steady Praetorians couldn't take the thing down. Hundreds of Egyptian warriors came from within a nearby forrest. I was forced to surrender, and I did so.

What a boring war, it's just a continuous stream of victories and reinforcements magically appearing.

A blender movie of this would be boring. :|

Morning came.

One of the generals was standing out over his troops on a small ridge, "Let us have victory today!".
The war horn sounded early and the traditional war speech was abandoned. Troops marched forward, archers rained arrow cover, Roman soldiers hurled javelins into the forces outside the grand tower, it looked like surrounding the tower would be an easy victory, but another war horn sounded, an Egyptian war horn. A massive wall of Egyptian soldiers charged across the western field, chariots came whizzing by, the riders hurling spears into the allied army. It was hopeless, the large force that had been sent to capture a spot for siege equipment, had been stopped.

At that moment Tiberius grabbed me and flung me on onto his horse, "Go! Ride! Warn the nearest cities, we've fallen, and-- GAH!!". At that moment an arrow had pierced his leg and he'd buckled in pain.

As I rode away I looked back, they were surrounded, being savagely killed, from atop a far ridge I watched as the allied army was brutally executed. As I rode on, I could hear the screams of the women in the camp being brutally attacked. I gritted my teeth knowing it would be suicide to turn back. I rode on, and on, and on, and finally, I got the the large city of Waltreshire, and ran hard to the governor's palace.

Zarg was officially a loss. we hadnt even fully set up and we lost. that got me thinking, what if there was a spy in our camps?

Well, it couldnt be our the Norse resistance, they showed us proof of the kidnapping of their chief. and it couldnt be the Dwarves, because they have been the Tech's allies for a while now. that leaves the Elves and the Romans...i put my money on the Romans...

As i walked around in the city i come to realize that now, as the main force of ours were dead, all we could do was gathering farmers and merchanters against the enemy. I entered the castle, the guards knew me, so i entered easilly. when i got into the throne room, i saw three girls, a old man and slaves. The throne room was covered with gold trimmed on the furniture, in the roof, there was decorated with diamonds and rubies. As I walked slowly forward I noticed that the three girls looked almost the same, i figured out they were princesses or something, one of them were very special...

If it is okay, im going to make a new thread like this for the blender movie, but then there will be serious with no grammar mistake or non-capitalized in beginining of sentences, Interesting story ideas will only be accepted and so on.

The defeat was awful but the gervoriath who had stayed behind dug in and fought tenaciously for weeks to stem the enemy, they held the bridge so while our defeat was something like a stalingrad we still were able to launch our air raids on the enemy, when I thought about it the true losers of that battle were we the tech alone for the others had brought only small contigents the largest being the romans with around 10,000 men, Zarg could be crushed but it would take far longer, we would also need to train new troops, another thing that lowered the level of defeat was that many of our troops escaped 40,000 out of 115,000, and our rearguard withdrew prior to total collapse escaping with few casualties, tiberius was from what I knew in a torture chamber and our survivors who had surrendered and failed to escape were slaves...

When we were all going back to Karsh, we all prayed that the defenses would hold out for just a bit longer. Karsh was our main foothold in enemy territory, so we couldnt lose this!

well, half-way through the trip there, i got this wonderful idea.

"hey! Jono (my personal engineer), do you remember that super-behemoth that the mages summoned? well, let's do the same!"

"wouldn't that mean that we would become what we are fighting? Ive always been against magic..." he said kinda shocked.

"no, Jono, we will build a device that is much bigger than that! when we get to Karsh (if it still stands), we will get everyone together and design this 'Mega-Fortress.'"

when we got back to Karsh, we were all surprised that not only was it standing, it was winning! the mages were getting tired and eventually fled. but this victory cost us men...including Tiberius (he was eventually saved by some of his men from our last battle). In a brave charge with the Roman cavalry, he was slain. Even though i didnt like him too much, i began to shed a tear.  behind me was Tiberius' right hand man, Sextavian Arturus; he told me that Tiberius did his duty and that we should just go on without him.
Title: Re: Glest - RPG!

I could not believe how long Karsh had held, it was nearly two weeks, now we started to prepare plans for a humongous machine that would rip the mages to shreds, we also ordered our navy onto the rocket river where it would head north to meet up with the elves and south to join the romans, that way the mages remaining east of the rocket river would be cut off and we would have a clear defensive boundary...

A week later, news came that a new Praetor had been voted into office and he was coming in two days...

Two days later, the new Praetor arrived, he looked similar to Tiberius, but a bit stronger looking, "Hello, I take it this is Karsh."
"Yes it is, and we've been expecting you." I said.
"My name is Gaius Horatius, elder brother of former praetor-Tiberius Horatius," he said. "Speaking of which, what exactly became of him? I've heard little more than that he's dead."
I told him how Tiberius died, and he smiled, while shedding a few tears, "A proper way for a Roman to fall."
He spoke again, after wiping away a few more tears, "I'll see if I can't send a letter to Rome and get a statue erected, honoring his great service during this war."
"Well he wasn't that great, I mean--" I started but Gaius cut me off.
"He saved the your King and Queen!" he bellowed, "if that isn't worth something, what is?!"
I nodded, and invited him in to see the mechanical monster I was building.
We discussed how it was going to be piloted, and other various issues, and I found out that Gaius had one been a great engineer, and he offered to assist me...

"do you think we should give it treads or should it walk?" i asked him.

"legs, because the mages live in the mountains."

"ok, what kinds of weapons should it have? we should pile on everything that we got, dont you think?"

"i hear that the Dwarves have been creating a new weapon, something which can fire bullets at an astonishing rate" he said with great confidence.

"i'll ask them about it."

and so i did.

i went over to the Dwarves' engineering section and inquired about the prototype. the head engineer came up to me with a working version.

"it has the ability to reload with the recoil that it produces! and, the multiple barrels are spun with the assistance of a chain!" he said with great enthusiasm. "this is my greatest invention yet!"

"so, do you think we can give the mega-fortress a huge 'chain-gun'? and, do you think that all of our forces can be equipped with this? why should the walker get all the fun?"

"give us a week, and all of your firearms will be this impressive!"

I'm honored I said, if you could get a message through to the dwarves I told one of my aides tell them that they have the okay to build our tanks all of our industries are dedicated to creating the airforce that everyone lacks, Oh I told a roman nearby if you wish we can donate some of our aircraft, he thanked me and set out immediately to procure them, everywhere troops were training, while our tech infantry were great fighters, they were not nearly as fine in formations so they needed lots of training from the romans, on the other han the romans got practice with tanks and high accuracy shooting, the elves kept to themselves using their bows with astonishing accuracy, the dwarves would comprise most of our heavy infantry and artillery, our armies were starting to be trained, armed and cooperate like one which was far better then the mages...

the elves had some men on the inside of the Magic forces - its so good to have some spies...

well, one of them reported back to me, and informed me that Deldrick was in fact working on a massive walker too that was based off of my original designs!

"that traitor! we'll make his demise our greatest priority!"

He also told me of the defenses of Zarg, and that it has become a nigh impregnable fortress. They used the Indians as scouts around the perimeter, the enslaved Norse as the first line of defense, and themselves (the mages) as the second line and support for the Norse. We were in for the fight of our lives

They struck at midnight, despite my brain telling me not to I went along with them to help the commandos, we were dropped in total silence, each of us was armed with a rapid fire crossbow that barely made noise when fired and large five foot long swords, we eliminated the guard in one of the small turrets before heading into the main palace, we managed to snipe most of the guards and those we didn't were cut down without mercy, finally we came into the command chamber, Deldrick and what must have been the entire mage high command in our sector were there, the guards charged and were mown down by our crossbows, the mages drew swords and staffs and readied their magic blasts, but then I was given a shock, Enrich made one swift jump and twirling his sword like a reed cut the mages down with contemptuous ease, he would have grabbed Deldrick but my rage made me faster and I punched Deldrick square in the face, he was knocked unconscious and from a packet he carried tumbled all of my super machine plans. I picked them up and we raced for our pickup point, the airships were right on schedule and they lowered ropes and dragged us out just in time for shortly after we were shot at by archers, as we landed I considered how to handle Deldricks interrogation...

"Get this traitor out of my sight and to a doctor, after that, lock him up."  I said distastefully.

As the soldiers carried the man away,  I sat down and went over what the man had said.  Galag was a brilliant location for the Magic's command center.  Even though small, Scouts have reported that the town is well defended.  It was also perfectly inconspicuous, if it weren't for our capture of Deldrick, we would never have considered Galag.

As I thinking this over, a scout burst through the door of the house.  "Sir,"  The man gasped, "I saw a group of daemons not too far off, they're headed this way!"  Although short, the man had a strong, muscled torso and legs that could only come from a lifetime dedicated to running.  Although built, he had a surprisingly high voice that would have been comical in other situations.

"How far is 'not to far off'?"  I asked, surprised and angered at the man for interrupting my train of thought.

"About half a mile, sir," the man explained, regaining his breath, "Another scout reported that there was an archmage with them."

That caught me off guard.  Jumping up from the chair,  I ran outside and started to rally together the remaining soldiers which I had, and started to form together a basic attack strategy for which we were to employ against these hell spawn.

As The first daemons made their way over the hill,  I shouted orders, and...

I saw to my horror that behind those few daemons and a mage were hundreds of thousands of enemies, around 400,000 to be precise against 130,000(We had gotten rreiforcements), As the enemy neared I screamed fire, immediately, row upon row of elvish and roman archer, plus tech and dwarvish crossbowmen and gunners, fired, mowing down the scout force.
I saw one of the mages signalling to his troops and organizing them, he was way out of range, suddenly a single arrow whined from a hidden position and from well over 400 yards slammed into the mages skull, killing him instantly, as I looked to the source of the shooting I saw our commando snipers picking off the commanders, the roman, tech, and dwarvish infantry formed up in a shield wall while our cavalry readied for a counter attack...

do to all the things that had happened recently, i have been unable to write in my journal for some time now. now that i have gotten back to cataloging my adventure so far, let me fill you in on what's happened.

i was on my way back to the capital to get myself relieved of command, but then a few of the generals stopped me.
"Sir, what are you doing?!" the all asked in unison, "why are you leaving in our most desperate hour? the walker is almost done and we are about to assault Zarg!"

"Men, it has been an honor serving with you, but i have to leave so that the ghosts that haunt me will not affect your war. im sad to say that i am leaving, but it is for the good of the resistance."

right then, i got a backhand to the face by the leader of the Valkyries.

"What has gotten into that thick head of yours?!" she yelled at me, "By the name of Odin, we need you here to lead the forces of the Tech. by far, you are our strongest asset, and you just want to leave us? may those damned "ghosts" in your head be expelled! those illusions of your sister cant hold you back from your duty."

"how do you know about my sister?" i asked her.

"because now she is the one who keeps the Norse warriors in slavery. She was the one who kidnapped our chieftain, and holds him hostage. and sadly, we will have to get through her to free our people."

then my eyes started to tear up for i knew what my friends would have do to her...and because i knew that i couldnt back down like a coward...

Title: Re: Glest - RPG!
Post by: Zoythrus on 21 July 2010, 18:35:16
i walked away from my former comrades, there was nothing i could do to help them now.

i took a carriage back to Canjouster and tried to get back to the life that i knew before. i often thought of the armies that i fought with, and the generals who were my friends. the more that i gave to conforming back to the life i once knew, the more that my mind became occupied with the war. as the days went on, my thoughts were directed back to the lands of the Romans, the Elves, the Dwarves, and the Norse. no matter how much i reasoned with myself that i did the right thing, i just couldnt shake the feeling that i abandoned them...

the Magic nation was a very real threat, and i knew that the Resistance needed all the help that they could get. so after a month of mental torment, i got up and packed my bags again. as i took a carriage to the camp, i planned the Magic's defeat:

if we could save the enslaved Norse warriors and their chieftain from my wayward sister, then we would have another large army with us. this might give us the advantage over the Magic. (we'd cut off their mining operations, and give ourselves another army, its a nice swing isnt it?)

after that, we would find some way to break the shield surrounding Zarg. although this isnt the Magic capital, might as well take out the largest stronghold now so that we wont have to do it later. if Zarg fell, then that might demoralize them. with all that psychological trauma, they would lose focus, thus their magical abilities would suffer greatly (obviously making the war much easier)

i got back to the camp, and stood in front of the generals that i fought next to, and they looked like they knew i would come back...

and then, i, Zoythrus, woke up from the dream i had again. i realized that i was still in the McDonald's parking lot. I got up, got a coffee from the McDonald's, then went home. As i walked home, i couldnt stop wondering about the nameless Tech protagonist and his battle against the Magic.

once i got home, i sat flipped up my laptop's screen and started to play Glest (this odd freesource game that i found on the internet, it's one of my favorites). After a few hours of playing, i got inexplicably tired. i laid down on my bed and fell asleep again...

back to the story!

We had won another victory! but i instantly realized that we need to invest more into our anti-air defenses - another raid like that would kill us!

within a day we had enough air defenses to stop every dragon that would ever assault us. things were looking good.

we needed to stage an offensive, so i called up the Elven generals and told them to get their best spies. We were going to sabotage Magic's energy supplies and their libraries. that would severely cripple their ability to retaliate when we do attack.

first off, read the whole thing, you cant just jump in as a whole new character (that was the way it was supposed to be originally, but it didnt work out like that. maybe in the next one). as of right now, our unnamed character (who will probably remain unnamed for the rest of the story) is trying to figure out what happened to the generals.

i led the group into the generals' encampment - it had an eerie silence about it. there was no trace of the missing generals, everything was the way it should have been. but something wasnt right, so i had the team split up and search the surrounding area thoroughly.

no one would have expected to find what one scout spotted - the generals were all dead and decaying. it had appeared that an ambush got them, so we had to remain ever vigilant...

Suddenly, many of the troops were start to report a strange ringing in there ears.  I myself was starting to experience such a sensation, but dismissed this out of hand as anxiety.  As more reports came, the ringing within my own ears became louder, and yet even louder.  It was now more comparing to a high-pitch whine, and as I looked around I observed that my comrades were starting to drunkenly sway from left to right, as if dizzy.

The whining then double in intensity, causing my head to feel like it was about to split in two.  I clutched my ears and fell upon my knees as did everyone around me.  Obviously at this point I realized that the whining was little more then just hysteria.  My head pounded with the intensity of it, and then could feel.... Oh my... I couldn't feel anything, save for this torturous pressure upon my skull.  My hands gave way, and I laid face down upon the ground, wishing, praying, hoping for this to stop... stop... STOP!!!

As my eyes started to shroud with a peaceful blackness, I saw a large looming shape, and then a scaly, milky white pupil.........
