*NOTE: For Linux 64 bit distro's. Mega-Glest 32 bit binaries work fine in 64 bit Linux. You will require a special package for your distro. In Ubutnu you get it like this:
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
There is also a modified glest startup script which has been tested and working on a vanilla 64 bit Ubuntu install which is available below:

Stable...not really...but I suppose it is good enough. ::)
They are talking about changing the way installers should be so yeah...
Also, there is going to be an linux installer, I think. :thumbup:
-
It's stable as far as I know.
You can't have only an update installer, you have to have a full installer, for the people that don't already have MegaGlest.
As for the Linux Installer, Softcoder can update this first post whenever he wants.
Oh, BTW, I'll be uploading a compressed installer and a regular installer. ;)
-
What do you mean with not stable Ultifd?
-
What do you mean with not stable Ultifid?
I thought there was a bug...but I guess it is pretty much stable... ::)
-
how do i use the binaries? (im new to using them...)
-
If you already have say 3.3.3 just decompress the "Binary" archive overtop of your existing binaries. You should then see v3.3.4 when you start glest.
-
thank you, softcoder!
-
Too bad now there is a problem, even if you have fog of war set to "on", it is not "on" for scenarios and tutorials... :( :|
-
I agree with your point of view, indeed have this problem!
Hi, titi and softcoder ! I have a request: If you can use shortcut keys to control the build out of the army, the game will be even more fun! I, for example, such as: I think that sort of approach can better
control the army created out of such: "ctrl +1" to control my Swordman
troops (regardless of the numbers created), "ctrl +2" to control my The
Archer troops (regardless of the numbers created).
By the way: because I like the construction of more than 30 people were fighting the army, but to fight, I can not control the number of all the armed forces to fight because the army of the queue is limited, I think this queue limit the number of troops.
-
But that would take away of ...uh.. Ctrl + #ing... especially since people use 1 and 2 the most...right? :|
Maybe I misunderstood you. but... ::)
-
Or press number 1 and 2,3,4,5-control different types of troops, so that they become a group, a number corresponding to a different type of army, so to facilitate the management and control of the military. What I mean is using the number keys to arrange a group of army. You know what I mean? ? ? thank you!
-

-true, but they are already kinda used... ::) And you can kinda do this already...right? :|
-
I only recommend titi and softcoder to realize this function, you should have played Warcraft 3, right? ? Games which have this number as a shortcut key to use combinations of different types of troops, it is easy! This is a nice feature!
-
As ultifd said, ctrl+number and the number keys are already used to group units!
Try it for yourself:
Select some units and press ctrl+1. Now this group is stored in slot 1. WHen you later press 1-key ingame you get selected exactly these units.
-
I understand titi mean, I have tried. But perhaps you also did not understand a request, I have another requirement: the number of troops each choice why can not more than 12??? Example, I built a 30 Swordman . I can not use the mouse to select them all, zhoneng select one of 12, which is why, why not allow all the options??? This limitation can cancel???
-
Ok, but this is something different what we talk about now.
Selecting more then 12 units at once has been discussed several times before.
I know its a limit thats sometimes annoying annoying, but glest is not a game meant to move huge armies. This limit keeps a bit of the original glest style, fighting with a small number of strong units thats why I like this limit a bit.
And this limit also hides some technical problems of glest with handling huge armies. ( pathfinder has problems when moving big armies/ cputime to calculate all these units ).
This is why it is like it is ;D
-
Yeah, what titi said. ::)
besides... just assign more numbers to your units...there are nine total, I think. ::)
-
I use ctrl +1 chose my Army, but how can I cancel it (this option)???
-
I use ctrl +1 chose my Army, but how can I cancel it (this option)???
Re-select... ::) Is that what you mean? re select to one unit, and kill that unit ::) I don't know...
BTW, new version of megaglest....3.3.4.1: it will be posted soon I think...: http://sourceforge.net/projects/megaglest/
-
Yes, you are right! The new version is fixed fog of war, I opened the fog of war does not seem to effect how you view this issue??
By the way: the latest version of glest open and close the fog of war, in effect, no change, which is Why???
I think if the game can join the file (to save game progress) function, this will be better!
Facilitate the next time the game (read the progress of the last saved).
-
Does this small fix mean we will need a new windows installer or what?
-
New binaries are ready for testing and we are calling it 3.3.4.1.
We fixed the fog of ware issue introduced when we added it as an option in multiplayer games, it unfortunately did not default to be turned on for scenarios and tutorials.
Once we hear feedback about 3.3.4.1 and are confident its in good shape we will publish full installers. These installers should not be required for current users since it is intended for new installations. Current users can just grab the smaller binary updates posted below:
Linux:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/megaglest/files/current_release/megaglest3.3.4.1_i386_linux_bin.tar.bz2/download
(https://sourceforge.net/projects/megaglest/files/current_release/megaglest3.3.4.1_i386_linux_bin.tar.bz2/download)
Windows:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/megaglest/files/current_release/megaglest3.3.4.1_i386_win32_bin.7z/download (https://sourceforge.net/projects/megaglest/files/current_release/megaglest3.3.4.1_i386_win32_bin.7z/download)
Enjoy.
-
This means that the fog of war is always the effect you do not, including this latest version???
I have been tested and found to open the fog of war did not find any results, and did not find the existence of fog, Oh, My God!
-
I don't understand what you want to say? You still have problems?
Please try to say it again.
( by the way if you compile for yourself: 3.3.4.1 is a branch in the svn! )
-
What I mean is: Open the fog of war, did not see the effect of the fog of war, I did not compile it yourself. Thank you!
-
I still don't understand it.
Do you still have any problems with Fog of War?
If yes:
Are you talking about scenarios?
Or are you talking about custom games?
-
I am talking about custom games
By the way: today I tested the latest version (glest the Windows version) and found a problem, please read the game Screenshots:
Now, just now, this error again, I do not know what happened in the end, why this error prompt?
http://i.imagehost.org/0024/glest_game_2010-04-19_20-43-41-68.jpg
-
I have no problems in custom games with fog of war in windows? What is your problem? Doesn't the fog of war switch work for you?
( I hope you know what fog of war is? )
For the other error with the screenshot: You say you talk about the latest version, which version? latest svn version or 3.3.4.1 build?
And where does this error happen? How can we reproduce this error?
-
Dear titi! I said glest3.3.4.1, you press the button when the Custom Games this error message appears. I restart glest3.3.4.1, select the Scenario, the same error occurred!
-
I don't have these problems in windows XP SP2.
Judging from the error its a permission problem. I think you use windows7 ? Maybe you did something wrong when installing the 3.3.4.1 binary?
Maybe you need admin rights to do it.
-
I am using Windows vista Home Premium, my account is with administrator privileges. But how do I avoid this error then???
-
Sorry, but I cannot really help you with windows Vista/7 trouble. I don't have it and I have no access to it.
To install 3.3.4.1, you simply copied over the existing files?
Are these files really replaced, or does Windows only simulate the overwriting by copying the files into the new virtual layer which was introduced in windows vista?
-
Dear titi! I am sorry to tell you, the fog of war is still not working, maybe I do not know what the fog of war, would you please tell me, please??? To cut a game picture let me see, can you?? ?
-
Fog of war means you cannot see the whole map on the minimap. You have to explore new regions to know them. Unknown regions are dark.
and for the windows vista error:
Vista - error 10013 is a very well know problem in vista! Google for it and you will find a lot.
-
hey, can you make a fog of war/explored option? it means that the whole terrain is explored, but you cant see anyone.
-
I just tried Mega-Glest 3.3.4.1 on regular with playing the AI you can turn the Fog Of War on or off but on scenarios you can't turn off Fog of War it is on no matter what setting you set it at. I am on Windows XP 64 Bit operating system.
-
Yes we hard coded it to be on for scenarios and tutorials. I guess in the past it would read the setting from the ini file, so instead of hard coding it for scenarios and tutorials we should likely have it read that setting still and leave network play as is (setting per game)
I'd like to hear Titi's opinion (and anyone elses on this)?
-
Tom, ...that error has been around glest and GAE for a long time... ::) it is a network error.
I experienced it too, so I just restarted my computer, then it was ok. ::) :thumbup:

Yes, please try. :thumbup:
-
Would be most flexible to be able to choose fog of war on or off for both meaning regular play and scenarios.
-
I google the error to find a solution to this Russia, but found nothing. My windows account with administrator privileges, but running glest, the error still occurs, I do not know how to do, you re-start my system, I think This is very troublesome, experience this problem to restart the operating system, I am angry, I .......... Hey ......... I can do nothing, softcoder, I would like to get your Help, How to solve this problem, thank you!

Google permission denied 10013...either re-installing Glest, GAE, or MG usually fixes the problem for me, or (more) I just restart my computer... ::)
Also, this happens in Windows 7 too. (This also happened to me the first time I got the new MG, then a restarted my comp, then everything was fine) ::)
-
OH, my god! Your answer to my surprise, I saw the link you provided, but did not provide any inside information to help, but I am very grateful to you for help, thank you!
By the way: I did not install any firewall!
-
There megaglest 3.3.4.1 on sourceforge!
-
Is this going to be it with fog of war always on in scenarios and be able to choose in regular play? If so I'll get ready to make my windows installer for this final version.
-
As mentioned earlier, we waiting to hear from Titi and other people to get feedback.
-
Since this is the only issue with 3.3.4.1 and I don't use scenarios anyways the fog of war being always on isn't that much of a deal as long as you can choose it being in ir not in regular play. So I'll go ahead and get ready to make my windows installer of this version. Yes everything else works fine with this version on XP 64 Bit.
-
socket error 10013 error still occurs, my God!
-
looks like this is a serious vista problem!
http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/30023368/losing-netowork-regularly.aspx
is SP1 for vista installed?
maybe this helps you too:

I am so glad I never went to Windows Vista. Windows XP 64 Bit works fine with Mega-Glest and I guess the reason I can't play Glest online is I am behind a router. But that is ok with me I like my games with the AI. And now with Mega-Glest the AI is more than enough of a challenge for me. In fact on Mega setting I've yet to win a game.
-
Ok, we will be doing away with the Global Fog of War setting in glest.ini (And elsewhere). This is replaced by per game setting for network games and soon I will be adding a lua script option to toggle it for scenarios and tutorials.
There will be another minor update called 3.3.4.2 soon with this fix.
EDIT:
New binaries are ready for testing and we are calling it 3.3.4.2.
We fixed the fog of ware issue introduced when we added it as an option in multiplayer games, it unfortunately did not default to be turned on for scenarios and tutorials. For any Tutorial or Scenarip that you want Fog of Ware turned OFF (it is on by default) simply add the following into the startup script:
unfogMap()
and the tutorial or scenario will start with fog of war turned off.
Once we hear feedback about 3.3.4.2 and are confident its in good shape we will publish full installers. These installers should not be required for current users since it is intended for new installations. Current users can just grab the smaller binary updates posted below:

Enjoy.
-
Good, downloading, and then I will test it... thanks. :) :thumbup:
-
I am using Windows XP 64 bit on scenarios no matter what setting I put it at Fog of War is always on and I just installed the 3.3.4.2 update. But on the regular game I can choose either on or off but not in scenarios.

Did you-
For any Tutorial or Scenarip that you want Fog of Ware turned OFF (it is on by default) simply add the following into the startup script:
unfogMap()
and the tutorial or scenario will start with fog of war turned off.
? ::)
Good Luck. I will still need to test... ::)
-
Ok try this for example, edit advanced_tutorial.xml like this:
<scripts>
<startup>
unfogMap()
disableAi(0)
Add that line and save the file, then try running the advanced tutorial. Works fine for me.
P.S. all Lua functions ARE case sesitive.
-
You have to modify the scenario-xml itself.
This unfogMap() thing has to be set in in this xml file.
-
Please remove this 'new' Lua function.
This function already exists in GAE for a different purpose.
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/glestae/wiki/LuaReference#gui
While I am partly to blame to begin with, you should have contacted me, the things I forgot to add were,
in struct ScenarioInfo
+ bool fogOfWar;
in MenuStateScenario::loadScenarioInfo()
+ scenarioInfo->fogOfWar = scenarioNode->getOptionalBoolValue("fog-of-war", true);
in MenuStateScenario::loadGameSettings()
+ gs->setFogOfWar(scenarioInfo->fogOfWar);
It is then set in an XML node,
<fog-of-war value="false"/>
-
Another example of why MG and GAE guys need to communicate more.
Work is being pointlessly replicated in both forks :look:
-
Yes, thats true. We talked about how it should be done and I mentioned it was already possible to switch on/off FOW in GAE in scenarios.
Maybe softcoder didn't found it or get it wrong. I think it should really be done the same way in MG.
-
New binaries are ready for testing and we are calling it 3.3.4.3
Fog of ware switch is now the same as GAE.
Once we hear feedback about 3.3.4.3 and are confident its in good shape we will publish full installers. These installers should not be required for current users since it is intended for new installations. Current users can just grab the smaller binary updates posted below:

Enjoy.
-
In the end what happened, why I posted without notice, Why is that???
Is not my problem makes you feel angry??? But I really need your help, please forgive me, thank you!
-
Sorry I don't understand your question? If you are referring to the compile problem, is was moved to the "report problems" section and was answered.
Thanks

Today I compiled the windows version of glest code (version number is v3.3.4.3), but the following error occurred:
By the way: I did not compile the latest SVN code inside.

Tom, I don't have any such linker errors when compiling this. Are you compiling from the release-3.3.4.1 folder? (That should contain the 3.3.4.3 code which compiles and works fine for me. I just tested again doing a full rebuild and it compiles fine and there are no files to checkin to SVN)
-
Was my mistake, caused by lost files, please send a glest 3.3.4.3 version of the code to me, can you???
-
Source code for 3.3.4.3 is here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/megaglest/files/current_release/megaglest-source-3.3.4.3.tar.bz2/download (https://sourceforge.net/projects/megaglest/files/current_release/megaglest-source-3.3.4.3.tar.bz2/download)
or SVN as you know.
-
OK, has been successfully compiled, softcoder, Thank you very much!
-
Blast, my school blocks sourceforge now... Any chance someone can provide a mirror for the windows full install of the latest version? I have a very old binary only version, but my home internet can't manage the huge size of the full install... :'(
-
I could put one up later.
Is Filefront ok?
Or do they block that too.
-
In case of emergency etc.. I'll try to keep a mirror on my website for Mega-Glest files in the following location:
http://soft-haus.com/glest/sf-files/ (http://soft-haus.com/glest/sf-files/)
This will only contain current releases.
The full installers for Linux and Windows should be there within an hour or two.
-
Well, can't wait till the new stable v. of MG... although there is the dev, there is that annoying bug when you exit the MG process hangs... :|
also
maybe new bug? I tried pressing M to see what would happen, no messages were typed already, so my other comp got disconnected...it said like waiting for message over and over and "disocnnected" over and over till I killed the glest process...
maybe I should have tried to type something... ::)
Oh well, cool, now that I am pretty sure i can host games...at least on my 32 bit comp... :thumbup:
-
I share your point of view, I am running vista 32bit operating system, this game. When I quit the game when prompted: "glest_game.exe has stopped working" I said that (glest-3.3.5 version, so that windows version ). I do not know what happened, why is it so? Thank you!
-

Don't worry Tom, Softcoder said it will be fixed by the next version...or so... :|
