Post by: titi on 14 June 2010, 08:34:22
What happened to kukacs account? Why was it deleted? Anyone knowsn anything about it?
( And no, I'm not talking about his dumb banned joke )

probably something to the server? som mod felt for deleting since he was "abusing" when editing others post?

I don't know? I never saw him abusing anything...

Kukac has been a mod on this board for many years and has always been firm but fair. If someone with administrative authority deleted his account then they should be stripped of their moderator status and temporarily banned from posting on this board for at least 60 days.

Just to let you guys know, I didn't do it, nor do I have the power to do so.
Only admins can ban and delete users.

Can you copy in a backup of his account?

Yes, these are the facts, but what happened? Maybe the glest board is hacked? Or is it just his account?

If i were admin and after this post:

AFAIK only 3 people have admin rights to this forum: Titi, Omega and Martinho  :look:

If some one did it, it was ether Martino or Omega... I doubt they would do that on purpose...

Perhaps one of the admins could simply re-create his account and email him??

he is partially on. on kukac nr 2...

Just wait for Omega everyone... people need some patience...he has some stuff to do.
Most likely a server error, or Omega accidentally deleted his account while maybe testing to delete the bots? maybe, as kukac is not the only one...

Quote from: Omega from OT Main Thread
To discuss quickly, I'm thinking of purging the entire database of every user that is older than 2 weeks (28 days) and has not posted at all (zero posts). I see no problems with that. I'll give a few days to object for some reason then perform it (after a backup, of course   :)). This will reduce the database size, making backups easier, give a more accurate count of the current number of forum accounts, and stop the bots from hogging all the server space!
Yes, a possibility...
Anyways, as I think everyone else would think, I hope this problem will be resolved...soon or not.  :|
Good Luck...

Omega, when  you read this, can you check if ace frog was accidentally deleted too?

Thanks...
Title: Re: kukacs acoount?
Post by: Omega on 15 June 2010, 00:22:38
First of all, I can stress that I did not delete his account, nor ace frogs, or anyones recently.

Right now I'm looking to see if I can find out what happened, but currently, I can't find any records, at least not in SMFs log...

I personally doubt the board was hacked, since its been active for a long time, and we have a stable version of the board, not an RC. Titi mentioned something about the masterserver could allow access, but I'm not so sure about that since the board is password protected and I believe only jose and perhaps the rest of the glest team know the password. Anyway, I'm stumped, so for now, I'll see if I can restore the account.

I'm all open for suggestions though.

//EDIT: From what I can find, a restore is the only way I know. I have a backup about half a week old. I'll leave the choice to you guys. Never had to restore a backup, and not sure if it would simply overwrite everything or if it would work as an addition...

//EDIT2: Oh crap, the backup can only be restored with access to the servers database program. While I have experience with this, I don't have access with this, so obviously cannot do so... Perhaps the glest team could. But then there's still the problem of the loss of about half a week or so of posts (thats quite a bit). Perhaps it's possible to make a "difference" one that can be restored? I haven't a clue, but we'd need the Glest team's help for sure at that.
Title: Re: kukacs acoount?
Post by: tomreyn on 15 June 2010, 01:34:02
You'll have a table there where all the posts are in, and another table where his account credentials and personal settings are in (this part may be split up in two tables). If you can extract just this part of the dump then you don't need to roll back the complete forum for half a week. And I'd appreciate if you would not roll back the complete forum, not unless you make available to us a dump of the current state so we do can repost our recent posts.

Could be something before SMF...and somehow...but probably not? We hope?

Re: EDITS,
maybe try using tomreyn's solution? I would prefer if you didn't...(probably also bad for tomreyn as he was a new member recently...)  and etc. of course, we would all prefer not to...but...anyways I guess we should find another way? ...
has there even been a problem like this? on SMF at least?  :|
hmm...I hope all for the better, for kukac, the Glest Community, and everyone else...

Thanks.
Title: Re: kukacs acoount?
Post by: Omega on 15 June 2010, 02:04:54
Well, here's what I can tell you off the bat:

-When a person is deleted, the unique modifier for their posts is deleted, changing it to guest. There is no way to restore it back to their modifier. I'm not sure if his modifier was reset to guest, and have no (known) way of checking, but I would assume, since the account was deleted, that it was. The only recovery for that is to restore the posts (would be nice if we can just restore the posts and his account, and let those tables overwrite, but none of the others. Depending on the SMF's table layout, this may not be possible. Not sure... :(
-I definately would not want to roll back the forum either.
-I would love to see what I can do with the tables, but I haven't got access to the MySQL stuff on the server. My adminship is just for the board, and not for glest.org itself, so I can't do anything there. It's up to the glest team if they can do anything about that.  :'(
-I will try and experiment with my backup by importing it into a dummy copy of the board offline, deleting an account, and seeing if I can recover it. If successful, then the glest team can apply it to the Glest board.
-Post count cannot be permanently faked, since it depends on the posts, and can be recalculated, its not a static number.
-For now, I've made Kukac's new account a moderator.

Still open to ideas. I checked the SMF forums and back was the only really mentioned way. For the most part, there wasn't many helpful replies there. :bomb:

Title: Re: kukacs account?

Maybe we should simply ask kukac if its ok for him to live with a new account.
He has the same rights and so on an he also can edit his old posts because he is a moderator.
The new account only has much less posts :) .

Epic number of posts, for something that trivial :)

Does it have to do anything altogether? Gabbe, an account is not simply the matter of numbers of posts. It doesn't matter, if a mod has 40 or 9000 posts.

Quote
Yes, these are the facts, but what happened? Maybe the glest board is hacked? Or is it just his account?

I think, hacking my account is the last case solution :) If you hack a whole board, why would you only delete only one moderator's (and probably ace frog's) account? :D

If some one did it, it was ether Martino or Omega... I doubt they would do that on purpose...

I just imagined as one of them accidently (AcCiDeNtLy!!!) clicks on my delete account, and yes on the "Are you sure" panel :D

2 weeks are not 14 days?

FYI the account was just "recovered", since the old account had only the links to my posts, so what's the problem? It would be worse, if it wasn't deleted, but someone deleted every threads in my name...

Kukac has a point. Though I must admit I feel sorry for him. I would be outraged if my account were to be deleted. And it's true, that post count means nothing, however, other people might look for people by their post count, not their awesomeness value (where Kukac is only just behind me :O).

I must admit,
May be we can reasign the @kukac@ post to kukac user... :S
Please read my earlier reply:

Another posibility that seems unlikely, but I have to ask (it happened to me once). Could anyone else have logged onto your computer and deleted your account? Most people leave their accounts logged in, and its pretty common to have friends/family/ENEMIES etc with easy access to your computer... I know an account on another site was once used by a friend when I left it plugged in. He ended up posting some spam, thinking it was funny... :o

Oookk... i think the old @kukac@ is back :p

When a user is deleted, in the table of messages is clear the id_member, but the "nickname" still.
Then, i have search in the database and asign the new user ID of kukac to this "lost" messages.

And change the registratin date to Kukac.

I have set the messages counter to 875, the total count of registers... i think this may be recalculated when kukac post.

Thanks to all, specially Omega, i see the messages about possible solutions, and backups of database.

Maybe the next forum crash/attack/destruction/desvastation we can work togheter for search the best solution... but my english is very "basic" :p

Ideas & suggestions are accepted.

@kukac: we can rename kukac2 to the old kukac username... ?
