When I start the game, I can hear the audio, but the screen is black, and my monitor says "Signal out of range". I think this might be an unsupported resolution. How do I check?
Using Ubuntu.

What version are you using? Glest 3.2.2, or a version of Mega-Glest or GAE?
Either way you should be able to edit glest.ini and change the resolution in there:
RefreshFrequency=75
ScreenHeight=768
ScreenWidth=1024
DepthBits=16
Change these values to something supported by your hardware.

And, of course, as always, make sure your graphics driver is up to date.

same problem here, i am using windows 7 64-bit, my video card is an nvidia gts 250 and i have the latest drivers. i have 4 gigs of ram and an intel "core 2 quad" Q6600 at 2.4ghz. i am using glest 3.2.2 and when i start the game, my screen turns black, then a white box comes up (the game screen i think) then it goes back to black, and the sounds start playing. if i click the mouse it goes from playing calm "intro" music to "epic" battle music, so i know it's not frozen. i changed glest.ini settings to my monitor's native resolution (1440 x 900) and the color and depth bits from 32 to 16 and all combinations of the two. i also set "checkglcaps" to 0, and that didn't do anything either. now i put everything back to default, and nothing has worked. i even changed my resolution in windows to the default for glest and that didn't work either. i am stuck now. i also restarted the computer, but nothing changed
