Title: Team Colour on unit Icons.

Can this be done?
Possibly the same way the faction icon way was done. With two separate images?

This is about TEAM colour on unit icon's.
Say if I were Blue player, the background on my unit's icons will be blue. If I was red player they would be red, etc. This is not for Magitech either, this is for other new mods.

not just backgrounds, but also unit clothing, emblems, and stuff that are shown in the picture

Theoretically, I suppose it could be done using the alpha channel, much like how it's done with our textures already.  Of course, we'd have to use a format other than bitmap (targa or portable network graphic).

also, we need a way of making the background invisible, but the unit in the picture teamcolor (you cant just use tons of alpha)

I was thinking maybe png would be best, but doesn't alpha in a png make a pixel see-through?  Maybe a particular shade of gray?

Yes, but same goes for targa.  It's the engine that interprets it as team color.  Think of it like taking the transparent image and putting it on top of a colored layer.

As you can see the background is transparent, and the unit is heavy on teamcolour. It looks quite strange when you are green team, and in all your unit icons they're red.

Support, but how would you, say, take an image of your unit with that team color? It'd be better off with solid, simple parts like the backs of buttons being that team color, unless you want to manually modify that image... Perhaps taking a page from Silnarm's book and using 2 images (like faction logos) to create both transparency and teamcolor? Abet, it seems a bit complicated, but works at least...

Then again, I don't know of any mods that use transparency in their buttons??

It wouldn't be to hard just to select the colour of the units, then make an alpha channel would it?

Add an underlying layer of a particular color on the texture.  Render.  Color to alpha.

I don't like this idea. Isn't the point of icons to be instantly recognisable? Changing them just because you're a different player doesn't make sense to me.

Well the Crincillin don't really have a defined stlye without teamcolour....
The icons would still be very recognizable, they just match your units!
