Title: Glest conquer
Post by: kris9700 on 9 January 2011, 23:49:46
OK who has herd of the game heroes of might and magic 5. If not Google it. Well if you have you know that it is an awesome strategy game. Well you know how you can take over city's and add different units from different factions to your army? well I think we should try to make something like that. But with all the other Glest elements. You should be able to choose of if you want to keep the building you destroy or burn it to the ground. And be able to use all the units from that building. Glest is a grate game right now is my favorite game. But this would make it Evan better. People all over the world are looking for games like that and we have a chance to make it happen. And I cant do it by myself. I need help because if you know me you know I am not vary good at modeling and blender dos not work on my computer.

Please comment or help.

What about a spell that can control units?  Or another spell that can control a building?  Or a spell that can stop a building from producing?

Ya something like that but the spell would kill one of there units so its fair.
I have a model of a castle for the first faction i am making. ( i finally learned how to model.) Ill post an image. The faction will be like tech but have more units and buildings.

The next faction will be like Magic and have more units like doom sayers who can see the other players main city's.

Both these models are made with Google Sketch up. I tryed to make them in Blender but im not good at blender it always crashes. If someone can please make these files compatible with Blender. I can view models with blender but cant make anything.

You're at the same point where I was about two years ago, only I was using AutoCAD instead of Blender.  You'll probably not be able to rely on other people to fix up your models and make them work.  Even if you keep all of your modeling in SketchUp, you'll need to learn how to do some basic things in Blender, like scaling and rotating your model, then exporting it to Glest's format.

Ya i understand that i can do some basic things with blender but i cannot do more advanced stuff. I was just wondering how to get these files work with blender. Because when i tried to change it from a .skp to a .blend it wouldn't open up the file.

I'm going to be frank: You are going to need to learn Blender. First of all, converting formats is not as simple as changing the file extension. The data between formats is ENTIRELY different. You can export as DAE and import that in Blender, but you'd still have to texture and UV the model in Blender, as well, Sketchup is horribly impractical for humanoid models, which make up the core of a mod (anyone can model a still building, but if everything rests in the hands of the human models, it won't make a difference). Sketchup also can't handle animations. In fact, Sketchup is pretty impractical for modding. It's only pro over blender is the ease of use.

Thus, that all brings us back to the solution: You're going to have to learn blender, or this mod simply won't work. Other people have tried making mods that are retextured or depend on others help, but ultimately, they end up failing.
