Title: myidea, for more start options by starting a game
Post by: RealtimeFreak on 14 January 2011, 00:48:49
Hi all,

i have found a super good idea:

normal white man has to start the settings
,enter faction.xml in, so the (resource units to change.)

but i have a better idea ;)

"It would be nice if you start before the
the game could change the settings, a little bit?
could thus directly in the game menu to choose?"

to mee idea:

we can make , more factions.xml , each with different settings.
exmaple: faction_setting.xml, or faction_setting1.xml, or faction_setting2.xml
 or better: faction_small.xml or faction_max.xml

another example:
faction_setting1.xml = wood=200, stone= 200, food= 150 , workers= 5, warriors= 10, etc..
faction_setting2.xml = wood=500, stone= 1000, food=400, workers= 10, warriors = 50, etc..
faction_setting3.xml = wood=1000, stone= 2000, food=700, workers= 30, warriors = 100,etc..

i think this, its au later good if it a funktionally multiplayer modus GAE have
example, for Deathmath.

one would have in the faction, menu selection, a new suboption of the selected faction add
[start setting:], and one could dan just one of several faction.xml choose, each includes a private setting.

i think:
With this idea, you could be so easy to determine the starting resources, while the units.

note: would even like to hear your opinion on the idea,
unfortunately, some do not find good /: or necessary

Wouldn't having the game write out the xml for you when you put in the information in be a better idea?
I've though about this to, so  I could an all dragon battle with having to mod anything :D

But still, I don't know anything about coding; but I'm guessing this would be lots of work.

Do you mean modify the amount of start resources/units then save it as a scenario?

I think it's something more like...

Starting resources:
Starting units:
Starting buildings:
...all as starting options when creating a game.

I think he means to be able to have control over the units, but not in a scenario, but a normal game, so you can choose the map/tileset/factions easier. Scenarios you'd have to modify all of those manually for each scenario (Though that would work fine). Like this:

I think it's something more like...

Starting resources:
  • None
  • Few
  • Default
  • Extra

Starting units:
  • None
  • Few (2 workers)
  • Default
  • Extra (5 swordmen, 5 archers)

Starting buildings:
  • None
  • Few (castle only, no cow, no tower)
  • Default
  • Extra (+barracks and farm)
  • Full (all buildings)

...all as starting options when creating a game.

That could be interesting, I'll admit. Preferably if the modder could choose the extra settings, so they can be mod specific.

I think that is exactly what he is suggesting, instead of the starting resources/unit in the faction xml, there would be multiple xml files with different 'sets' of starting goodies.

Like an 'accelerated start' from some other games, or a 'starting age' or whatever.

Good idea... but I think we can just put all the different sets of starting goodies in the faction XML.

Agreed, that would be the cleanest and most effective way to do this. I'd also like to note that we should be able to specify what upgrades they should have completed as well. For example, if we're giving them a full base, may as well give them all the upgrades (the irony of having a building in your base that you don't actually have the upgrade to build yet would make me fall out of my chair).

Ticket #294.

Should be fairly straight forward to implement, so target is 0.4
