I believe everyone in the community has realised the possibility of GAE and MG merging is pretty much zero.
But I fail to see why we can't join the efforts in developing the Map Editor and G3D viewer together. I know they devs themselves should have a say in this... and they may feel a bit reluctant to code for the other team etc. But really it would be much more helpful for everyone if we were using the same tools. Not to mention it's more efficient which would lead to quicker advancements for everyone.
I'm not trying to persuade the devs of either folk to work together, just offering a suggestion that I think would help the community.

Well, of course that would be great, but I don't think they can for now because MG uses wxWidgets and I guess GAE doesn't anymore. :-X

How come i don't know about that? We still use wxWidgets.
It's not really possible to combine it as both the g3dviewer and the map editor link against shared_lib which is different in both projects. I see no problems in sharing patches as we did before. It will get more difficult to share stuff in the future as shared_lib will get more different though.

I would certainly like to see some more shared features between the two. I find myself using the MG viewer when modding for GAE, just because of the particles.

Sorry, I thought that you guys didn't use it anymore since Silnarm said this:
*Pokes silnarm to steal MG's code*
It's still wx, poke someone else! :P
Anyways since we're talking about the Glest tools, I think making the map editor ask whether you want to save the map or not (when you close it) would be a good idea, unless it is already implemented. Can't believe I didn't think of that before.
