i was thinking of how nice it would be to have a "no-go" zone for maps (having rocks just looks ugly). this is why i propose that if you make the depth of any part of a map -6 (the lowest now is -5), that the game would know that no units can traverse that terrain. maybe even automatically make depths black or something.
think of the possibilities!

So in short, you want a chasm? That won't bode well with the current method of making water though...accidentally make the water too deep and you got a bunch of black chasms on your map. Also, you said:
the game would know that no units can traverse that terrain.
Air units? I would assume they could just fly right over it, same as normal.
Edit: Oh, and what about the reverse? Mountains a size higher than the current max height, which air units cannot pass over?

1. well, i think that normally water would stop at -5. -6 would require another tool in the toolbox, you have to actually want chasms to get them.
2. i had forgotten to specify that land/sea units can't traverse it.
3. and about the mountains, wouldnt they block your view?

Ah, yes, good idea. That solves that issue.
2. i had forgotten to specify that land/sea units can traverse it.
...Wait, what? I'm confused now. Is it an unwalkable chasm or do land and sea units somehow.... walk over it?
3. and about the mountains, wouldnt they block your view?
Yes, but isn't that the point? If I have seen further than others, it's by standing on mountains (mountains > shoulders of giants).

i meant to say "cant," oops!
the chasm is a terrain that only aircraft can traverse. putting land/sea units on the chasm is an illegal move.

In MG we have cliffs now. They are automatically surrounded with blocking objects so I think this is exactly what you want.

No, I think he wants pits that go down into blackness, not water.
-
Guys he's clearly asking for a chasm. ::)
Maybe have a modifiable chance for it to be filled with lava!

If you want lava, use the lava tileset...

cliffs, I think what you want is the MG thing. I mean, block objects..like..

Nice idea, but we should really start to just finish stabilizing MG and GAE...

No, I think he made clear he wants *chasms*. At the best, cliffs can go down into water. He wants the ability to make them go down into a black abyss, or in short: nothing. That would prevent it from being traversed by any non-air units. It could look pretty cool on a fractured map or something that was an earth quake zone.
