Title: Installing Glest
Post by: smilesforg on 27 May 2011, 16:59:56
Hi, I'm a newbie(a female one) who finds Glest an interesting game. However, I need to know about installing the game. Can I install the game then install the engine that is talked about, or do I need to just install the engine with the ability to save games? Can't remember the name of the engine itself, but would like to save my games so I can come back later to play.
Thanks, :)

You have two options:

Glest Advanced Engine:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/glestae/files/0.3.2/ (https://sourceforge.net/projects/glestae/files/0.3.2/)

or

MegaGlest:

http://megaglest.org/download.html (http://megaglest.org/download.html)

Thanks

Hi, welcome!

You can install both, they are both great! I believe the first one is MegaGlest, and savegames = Glest Advanced Engine. Have fun!

I'd say both are "talked about".

To sum it up, GAE (Glest Advanced Engine) is more feature wise, while MegaGlest is more multiplayer wise.

A full comparison: https://docs.megaglest.org/Engines

Only GAE can save games though.

Talked about=Press and etc
Only in one definition. To me, "talked about" means the literal meaning: Someone talked about it. ;) But really, who cares? Try both! They will hopefully be merging soon anyway.

To me it means press and etc, and I'm pretty sure it does mean that since MG doesn't have save game support though. (If it did though, many nice things would be possible...but that's all after the merge now. IIRC, mainly re-connecting to a game after you disconnected) I guess we have to wait for that after the merge.
Yes, that's why I said try both of them. Cause they're both awesome...
