i think that units should be able to be given an "attack on death" parameter, so they can attack when they die. a good example is a tank exploding and harming everyone in a small radius around it. the main difference between this attack and the ones now is that the unit could not "set itself off," that means that you wouldnt see any tanks running up to a guy and exploding.

Great...banelings in glest ::)
I do agree though, this would be very cool (you could have things like landmines!). I wonder if it is possible to create an alternate attack skill which creates this explosion, and put it in the death skill? I dunno, probabely not XD. In which case, this is an awesome idea!

this was the main topic of my thread, not suicide bombers.
although, a "death on attack" would be a nice feature (maybe with a percentage to go with it, just in case you only want a chance of a unit blowing up when it attacks).

This might be of interest. https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=6529.msg74426

I'm assuming you're refering to HP cost. That's not the same. He doesn't want a way to do a suicide attack, he wants the opposite: an attack to occur when the unit dies. Think, shooting a car in Call of Duty. It's gonna blow up when you "kill" it. If you're standing next to it when that happens, ouch.

well, now this topic has evolved to refer to both. to clarify things:
"Attack on Death" is what Omega just said - when the unit dies, it performs one last attack (such as an explosion)
"Death on Attack" is a suicide bomber - one who dies when the attack is performed.

I would totally support this :thumbup:.
Is there a way to have units "steal" hp from a target? If not, then maybe that could use the same mechanism.

Yeah, with recourse effects. Theoretically, recourse effects could already be used to create suicide units, but I don't know if anyone has actually tried it.

Military will make use of such a feature if implemented too, just because blowing up a tank should be at least PG-13!

ticket 343 [one time attack on die skill] (https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/glestae/ticket/343), do we need the die-on-attack version? or this hp-cost thingie instead/as well?

Die on attack is unneccessary, since it can already be done with a recourse effect. However, the hp-cost, while inferior to a recourse effect, would be useful since it would allow MG mods to be compatible with GAE. As well, it would be a slightly easier ability to use than a recourse effect, I suppose, though it's mostly the MG compatibility that I would use a reasoning to want this.
Milestone 1.0, though?
