Title: failed to lock direct sound buffer

Never actually played the game but thought the menu screen (rain and fog, nice!) warranted a serious try at making this game work.

this error message never fails to appear before i make a choice on main menu:

failed to lock direct sound buffer


I am running xp sp2, amd athlon xp 2200+, 512mb ram, Radeon 9000.

i dont know what my sound card is or what driver  :(

Any help would be appreciated.

i found the problem and answer in another forum.  i downloaded directx 9.0c
installed it then used dxdiag to set my acceleration to off.
