Title: question about adding units at the beginning
Post by: amenneste on 16 September 2011, 00:56:37
hello, i'm new in the forum, and i've being playing Glest for a few months, and it's really cool.!. i only downloaded the 'standard' glest, as my computer knowledge is 0, and i just play it for fun.

i usually play with the magicians, and i keep beating my friends (who play techs) all the time, however, the last days they were beating me, and even though i thought they got better, a friend told me that they were cheating, and somehow they found a way to add initial workers at the beginning. my source told me that they also reduce the life of my mages... so, my question is..is it true? can you add more workers at the begining?. how? i tried to look at the mods, but it's chinese to me.

thanks,

They could have modified the actual tech tree, if they did they would of had to copy it to your computer. There are no real coded cheats.

thanks for your reply. Yeah, i forgot to tell that they did install something in my PC (we all work in a lab, so they have access to my pc). So, whatever mod they installed, it creates more workers at the beginning for the tech, but not for the magics. I guess i'll have to play techs, beat them, and tell them i know the truth.!

thanks,

Well, multiplayer prevents you from playing a game unless all players are using the exact same techtree, preventing a player from changing them in their copy to cheat, but if they gave you the same modified version, then you'd both have the exact same one where tech is stronger and magic is weaker. Reinstall the game to get the default techtree back, or modify the XMLs (https://docs.megaglest.org/XMLs (https://docs.megaglest.org/XMLs)) and turn the tables back on them.

thanks omega. that's exactly what i did. I found the files, i had magic_backup and magic.xml, the changes were obvious, i modified the file with significant improvements for the mages now, not so obvious... i was thinking about starting with a dragon, but was going to be too obvious, heh. so i just add more demons and mages. during coffe-break i put the new file in their pcs, and i turned the table to my side :).
thanks for your replies, i didn't know where to start. I though my friends just installed a mod, but they just modified the techtree of the 'standard' glest. wasn't that difficult after all.

Just an unrelated hint about Glest: Since Glest is no longer developed, you may also want to look into MegaGlest and Glest Advanced Engine, which are forks of Glest, and are under active development.
