Title: [(p) fixed] SVN 4682 $ crashes after 4,5 min on WIN7 64-bit Binary

Hi
Last Weekend we had a short testing with the new 64Bit Snapshots in Network game. Win-Clients crashed after short time.

Today I tried scenarios with this SVN 4682 and they crash after 4,5 mins even doing nothing than starting the game.

Thanks for your report, Nig. You are referring to the single 64-bit windows test build which Softcoder made available, right? There are no regular 64-bit (native) builds for Windows at this time.

I updated the exe to svn head and made a few fixes for win64. Please give it a try again and let me know if you get any errors.

Last time, I had copied the files Softcoder made available there to tomreyn.megaglest.org so that we'd get faster downloads. But the above was and is (replacing the old files) the original download location.

Please try this experimental 64bit windows build which uses AVX instructions (instead of SSE2). Let me know if a) this build is fast and b) this build is stable.

Are these games single player or network games?

Also try this updated binary and pastebin the console output when it crashes again (after x minutes):

same behaviour as before. all single player games.  But there might be network access (local?) because Windows-Firewall is asking to block. crashes occure with allowing everything through firewall too.

I tested too now and I get an instant crash  ( btw libSDL32.exe is a 64bit dll in this case )? Do the other vlc.dll make trouble ( because 32 bit ? )

Now it works! I missed teh 3 new textures needed for svn version .

data/glest_game/data/core/menu/textures/status_brb.png
data/glest_game/data/core/menu/textures/status_notready.png
data/glest_game/data/core/menu/textures/status_ready.png

But MG should not exit with a hard crash like this when its missing. :-(

I played for 15 minutes without any problems on win7 64bit

Please try again the latest binary in the same location, i added more debug info.

I just played a full network game with my son (!5 minutes long) and it played fine (no out of synch and no crash).

What is interesting is that the win64 build DOES NOT use streflop making my think we may be able to drop using that lib completely.

I use the last SVN build (by myself) and just copy megagaglest64.exe and openAL32.dll, found on soft-haus.com, in there. I start megaglest64.exe from cmd-line.

Yes nig everything you are doing is right. Each output is giving me more details about where your problem is coming from. Please get the latest binary and test again.

And don't worry titi, I will not remove streflop before we release.

SOmehow i don't think that last test used the updated binary as it should have had more info in the error. Please redownload a new binary again and post the results.

download on soft-haus.com is remarkable slow sometimes (up to 7 min for megaglest64.exe).
Maybe there is something wrong?

My hosting provider is not too great. Anyways, get the latest binary and give it a try. We have tried it multiple times here and it plays perfect on win64 systems (win 7 and win 8) and seems to offer better performance than the 32 bit windows binary for x64 systems.

fumbling around, i aware that  the big freeze occures at different times depending on different scenarios. tough_duel for example is stable for a longer time. (console:

yesterday we had a big testing session with 64Bit binary.
Unfortunatly there was no happy end. Today I installed a new chipset-driver and found, that there is a 64Bit build, which works fine for me.
But its its not the last one you can find on softcoder.megaglest.org/megaglest64.exe.

I put it here: http://www.fastshare.org/download/64goo..7z

This one works fine in playing szenarios alone. The actual does not.
Playing the benchmarkscenario shows, that its performance is very similar to the 32 Bit binary.

My Benchmark-results:

you only talk about the megalest64.exe   - like yesterday. (thats one reason why I might messed up openAL.dll and megaglest64.exe Revisions yesterday).

With the openAL.dll hours before this one is in Benchmark about 40, 30

with the openAL.dll you uploaded at 08-Nov-2013 22:54 this one run Benchmark with 40,130 Hooray!

you can have an idea of the performance at the loadingscreen of the factions: on bad performance it slows down too....
At the first try of this last, good performing combination MG freezed while loading factions. Huh?
Afterward its works like a charm. i tried three times.
It might be important for testing, that the change from one version to an other on windows will have difficulties at the first run. is there anything resident when MG is quitted?

I thought often, that the first loading of factions after booting windows is slower than afterwards ..
