Title: What kind of main building for barillion bugs?
Post by: titi on 23 June 2014, 11:47:39
I need help to get a good idea!
The general story in barrilion is about a planet where alien factions arrive. Those factions are humans and bugs ( and later robots and maybe something simply called aliens ). Those factions arrive on the planet with their mothership and the fight for ressources begins.

The problem I have are the bugs! How should a bug mothership look like ?( That's the Main building in the meaning of MegaGlest )
Do you have any good idea what to use and how it should look like ? ( if possible show an example picture what you mean ).

The first idea that comes to mind is this

but I know that not all bugs are from ground in Barillion Bugs

How should those holes fly across the universe ? ???

( We need a "spaceship" that flies to other planets , and no, it has not to be realistic! Even rocket bugs or something like this are possible )

Maybe something like this? :

what about a termite hill that "ants" fill with explosive organic stuff
then the "Rocket" launches

other than that the rocket from fifth element looks quite organic:

Maybe the bugs never travel through space, maybe they travel through portals?

Titi, have you played Mass Effect (and if you haven't, you should). The main enemy in the series is a race of sentient machines called "Reapers". Their capital ship has a very insectoid look. As well, the ships can land on planets and walk. Presumably we wouldn't want the main building to move, but they could very much just plant themselves into the ground. In fact, a really cool build animation would be to have the builder place a beacon at the location where the ship would land, and near the end of the animation, a ship comes down from space and implants itself in the earth.

Details about reapers (http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Reaper)

I like what Omega says about the beacon where the ship lands, but about the ship I like another background story.
What about a ship from another life form which is affected with insects. Those insects kill the pilots and crash/land the ship on a planet. There the life starts with this crashed ship. This can be combined with the beacon/landing platform idea.

Update: But I must admit those reapers look really good and would fit perfectly.

... and about Mass Effects (3) there is no Linux version available. ( No Linux no money ... )
