Hi. I just downloaded MegaGlest and I have been mucking around against the AI. It is surprisingly well made for a free game. However, I cannot see my units during "night". It is not just that it is more difficult to see them–rather, I can barely see units and terrain at all, making it very difficult to play. Is this an intended feature or a bug? I am playing on a Mac with OS 10.9.5 and I have the screen at maximum brightness.
P. S. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.

Usually at night I see quite well, so it might be a bug or a bad configuration in Mac.
Try increasing brightness or changing tileset.

I've been playing and using the forum for a few weeks. No, i don't think it's the wrong forum :)
I have the same problem. I can hardly see the units at night. But I think I notice it more when they are near a lot of trees. Sometimes it's so dark I think I'm looking at unexplored enemy territory. I kind of accepted it as a feature that adds a challenge, and wait for night to pass ;). But I think it's definitely something worth mentioning and perhaps bears further discussion. I'm actually surprised that Alket says he can see fine at night.
Alket who replied above knows more about the game than I though.
I'm not on a Mac by the way, Linux PC.

I changed the tileset, which helped a little. Still having difficulty. Amusingly, building a campfire helps the most. Maintepees also seem to provide illumination. My screen brightness is as high as possible. Is there a brightness setting in the game. Thanks for the help.

...Is there a brightness setting in the game...
Hehe Yes, but imo 90% of readers expected that you tried at least set brightness :O.

Which version of MegaGlest?

Changed the brightness in the game menu. My bad for not trying that first. I can now see units at night. If you still care, I believe it is Megaglest 3.1.1.

Hah! Don't feel bad, I forgot to adjust my settings too!

I changed my brightness setting to 3.0 but nothing changed.
Debian 8 64
MG stable version and GIT

It worked when I tried it in Windows 10 though.

I don't think it works with Mesa, just some of the proprietary drivers.
-
A work-around is to enable team or "glow" particles by pressing shift + 8 (*) during the game. Pressing it once puts a colored ring around units, pressing it again puts a "glow" effect on units.

hm, a reply on a 2 year old topic ? Is it still a problem ?

Changing brightness is still a problem for me. The brightness setting has no effect for me on linux, at all, using intel mesa or nvidia proprietary driver. It seems to work fine on windows 10.

Several graphics drivers have problems with this feature. On linux Mesa and Intel do not support it and it does not work with nvidia(Mobile bumblebee) too.
It seems to workk with "normal" desktop nvidia graphics cards. On windows its supported in most drivers.

Coincidentally, this problem got fixed for me today. I'm on Debian 9 and last night updated my drivers to what's in Debian "testing". Today when I started MG the screen was far too bright (it was set to 2.5). It was the first time that setting had any effect for me.

Wow that's good news!
Maybe just using latest Mesa drivers works for all Distributions, without updating the whole installation.
btw, which graphics chip was it ?
