General discussion / Glest Blog created
« on: 9 May 2010, 16:37:54 »
Hello,

Zanni has just created the new Glest blog, we've invited all the moderators in the forum to be writters in it.

The cool thing about it is that it is automatically linked to the main glest RSS feed (http://feeds.feedburner.com/Glest), so people can follow updates of the game using any standard news reader.

The main page (glest.org) now also displays the most recend blog headlines.

This is an attemp to give the comunity more power over glest and an easier way of keeping people updated.

Regards.

Martiño.

I know it is completely offtopic, but I just wanted to let everyone know about GameTentacle, it is a website I made for fun, it gathers VideoGame related news and merges them together, in a simple way.

The URL is http://gametentacle.com

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Announcements / Glest 3.2.1 Released
« on: 13 February 2009, 10:39:19 »
Hello,

We have released Glest 3.2.1 today.

One of Glest's main strengths has always been it's stability. With version 3.2.1 we've fixed a few issues, however we always need everyone's help to try to fix any remaining bugs. If Glest crashes on your computer please tell us, and if possible give us information about the machine(s) involved, and what were you doing in the game when it happened. If you are playing under windows please send us the "dmp" file that gets generated in the root folder, since that will help us a lot.

As usual windows installer is at:

http://glest.org/en/downloads.php

And for Linux and other OSes you can download the code and data from sourceforge:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/glest

However is probably a good idea to wait until titi compiles the official binaries.  ( update[titi]  available now! )

Regards.

Martiño.

« on: 11 January 2009, 14:06:46 »
Hello,

phpbb3 was giving us quite a lot of trouble with our mysql DB, so we have decided to migrate our board.

Unfortunately all the passwords have been lost, but you can reset it if you have a valid email address set in the account, if not you can mail us (the mail address is here http://glest.org/en/credits.php), and we will reset your email.

Thanks.

General discussion / Addsense added to the web
« on: 10 June 2008, 21:43:27 »
Hello,

We've added some addsense adds to the web, I hope they nobody gets angry about it, the main point of it is to pay the domain and hosting expenses we've been having, if we get some extra money we will probably spend it in alcohol.

Maps, tilesets and scenarios / Scripting overview
« on: 29 May 2008, 13:55:28 »

All scripting documentation has been ported to the wiki:

From 3.2, Glest includes scripted scenarios using Lua.

The Lua code is embedded in the scenario xml file, and each chunk is assigned to an event, that gets called when something specific happens in the game.

The best way of learning it is to take a look at the already existing scripted scenarios: storming, basic_tutorial and advanced_tutorial.

Announcements / Glest 3.2-alpha1
« on: 27 May 2008, 23:25:37 »
Hello,

As you might already know, we are working on Glest 3.2, which will include scripting as a major feature, we want to share what we've done so far, so I've uploaded a patch to:

http://www.glest.org/files/misc/glest_p ... alpha1.zip

To install it delete the scenarios folder of your Glest installation and unzip it over.

Everything is in the svn too, however I don't think the building scripts cope with the LUA code, we will work on that soon.

The 3 main scripted scenarios added are:

Basic Tutorial: Tutorial to guide the player through the tech faction
Advanced Tutorial: Tutorial to guide the player through the magic faction
Storming: Simple scripted scenario where you have to protect a summoner while you attack several villages

Please give us some feedback.

Thanks.

« on: 6 May 2008, 19:12:53 »
Hello,

If you wonder what will be next in Glest, we are currently working on implementing LUA scripting for scenarios, we aim to build tutorials and other scripted maps for the game. There is already some stuff in the svn, but it is all pretty much work in progress.

General discussion / GAE Overview (Start Here)
« on: 28 April 2008, 23:06:06 »
Overview
Glest Advanced Engine is a project built on top of Glest, that adds new features to the game, it includes both new code and data. GAE might be merged into the main Glest branch in the future but at the moment it is a fork. It is being developed by the people in the GAE Team (not the Glest Team).  For bugs encountered while playing GAE, please post them here instead of the "Bug Reports" forum or open a bug report on the GAE tracker.

Download
The current version is 0.3.1 and can be downloaded from http://sf.net/projects/glestae/.

Multiplayer / Glest multiplayer overview
« on: 20 March 2008, 11:03:50 »
Overview.

From version 3, Glest supports LAN/Internet multiplayer, up to 4 players.

Starting a multiplayer game.

1) The server creates a game by in the "new game" menu, and opens some network slots.

2) Clients have to go to "join game", type the IP of the server and click "connect". This is only for the first time, after that, the game will remember the server name and you can select it from the previous server list.

3) Server launches the game.

IRC channel.

Our irc channel (irc://irc.freenode.net/glest), is a good way of finding people to play multiplayer games or to discuss the game in general.
If you are new, just click here: newbie_wants_to_play and choose a nickname.
( In the chat ask for a game and wait for a reply ! this can take up to 30 minutes! )

3rd party software.

There are 3rd party programs that will ease arranging Glest multiplayer games, by providing lobbies.

XFire - Xfire is a free gaming tool that automatically keeps track of when and where gamers are playing PC games online and lets their friends join them easily. Xfire now supports Glest (see http://www.xfire.com/games/).

AFLobby - AFLobby now supports Glest too.

Firewalls and Routers.

Glest uses TCP port 61357, so if you are under a router or firewall you will have to open/redirect this port to your computer if you want to host games (in the same way as you do for any other multiplayer games).
