While both are now about seven years old, in terms of computation, the recycling center's 3rd Gen "Ivy Bridge" Core i5-3350P CPU (and mainboard?) clearly wins over the 2nd Gen "SandyBridge" Pentium G630 (4 cores instead of 2, PCIe 3.0 vs 2.0, faster memory addressing - with matching RAM - and thanks to more cache):https://ark.intel.com/compare/69114,53483https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i5-3350P-vs-Intel-Pentium-G630/1109vs1476
Note, however, that the 'P' in "i5-3350P" indicates "processor only, no on-die video chipset", i.e. this one will have to be used with a dedicated graphics card. This said, almost any dedicated graphics cards from the past seven years will do better than what's integrated into the G630 (Intel HD Graphics (GT1), execution units: 6, boost clock: 1000 MHz, max GFLOPS: 96).
I'm not certain these are the Nvidia ones Titi recommended (I'm not so much into Nvidia, prefer AMD/ATI due to their open Linux drivers), but based on their release dates they may be, and this gives a clear picture:

thanks tomreyn, yea i discovered shortly before trying the i5-3350p that it did not support integrated graphics and what do you know it did not work im my computer.

Try to get a used card Geforce 750 or the much much slower geforce 730. The 750 should have a price of round about 50$ and for the 730 don't pay more than 30$ its not worth it. These prices are based on the prices I see here in germany in the used market.  Normal used prices here are 750 for 90$ and 730 for 50$, but better don't pay this, just wait a bit if you are really low on money.
yea cant use the geforce 750 because i have 1 pci express 2.0 slot not 3.0 but the geforce 730 uses 2.0 so yea

Hey, if toasters can play DOOM...  :O

But seriously, a Pentium G630 is not a GPU, really. Integrated graphics are simply insufficient for most gaming beyond very old games or "Facebook tier games". If you're looking to get into PC gaming, you really *need* a discrete graphics card. In which case, a Pentium kinda stands out a low-tier CPU on its own. Should you ever wanna build a gaming PC, I suggest /r/buildapc/.
yea i would use a dedicated card but most ones that or not worse than my cpu and chipset or 65 dollar$ + like the (GeForce gt730),if you know of any other low profile cheap cards please tell me. i found a drive-les computer at a recycling center with a (Core i5-3350P 3.1 GHz Quad-Core) processor and if it works i should be able to play with a little better performance.

uh oh late reply ... : Try to reduce your shadow texture size in the settings. set it to 256x256 or 128x128. This will maybe fix the spikes.
For the Resolution: The SDL2-Library has some trouble with screen resolutions and we use it. So you should stay with native resolution. Default resolution should be your navtive resolution.
yea i know i would like totally use my normal resolution but the whole reason that i use small resolutions in the first place is because my computer cant handle it it anything but  tiny resolutions "640x480 and smaller" on this game so thats why its such a big problem for me,really thats going to be a big problem for other people with toaster computers like mine.

Feature requests / add skeletal animation please!

it would be nice if instead of loading a g3d model from the units xml files you could load a text-based file that then declares the model and the animation files for the actions, example (vertex animation = true, mesh = archer.mesh, attack = archerattck.anim and so on) this would be great for both moders and modelers and would probably make the game and its mods tiny compared to what they were i mean the smallest faction is egypt at 25mb and the largest are romans and persians at 53mb and 54mb.i and a lot of the moding community would
really love for this to be a thing and would probably get me and a lot of others back into modding again.

i have not played mg in a while because when im in a game it has like 5 second spikes and they get more frequent as the game gets like +7 mins in the game, whats bad about this is that it un-playable with these horrible spikes.also as a windows 10 user i cant change the screen resolution so i am forced to have windows run it in 640x480 by changing megaglest.exe's  properties, another thing bad about this is that im a 64x bit not 32 and for some odd reason you cant make megaglest64.exe's screen resolution properties change only the 32 bit .exe so im forced to use the 32 bit client and not the 64bit.you might ask "what about the free version?"
the free version only relives me 1 problem which is the horrible spiking everything else is still the same
my computer specs ,gpu g630 2.70Ghz,gpu intel hd integrated graphics 1600mb shared video memory, ram 8 gb
