Announcements / Glest 1.0.0 released

This is the final version of Glest, that features single player game with 2 finished factions: Magic and Tech. All 3D and 2D art is done.

- We will no more work on the game intensively, we will just work on minor issues such as bugs or balance changes.

- We want to thank all the people that supported us, by providing mirrors, reporting bugs or just making suggestions or comments in this board.

- There is only one thing that we would like solve in the future, that is multiplayer support. I can't promise I will implement it, but maybe in the future I'll open the code so someone else can do it.

- New main menu art and programming
- Fonts change it's size depending on screen resolution

There is no easy solution for this, the selection circles must be at least as big as 1 cell. What you can do (that is what many games do) is to pack more than one person in the same unit, this is to make squads of 3-4 soldiers and put them in the same 3d model.

You can't with the "upgrade" command but if you want to change the appeareance of the building you can use the "morph" command that transforms a unit in another one. Samples of the morph command can be found on the "Initiate" or the "Battlemage"

Hi,

To make transparent objects just use 32 bit tga textures and use the alpha channel. I don't remember if the plugin exports 24 or 32 bit textures (tucho could answer this) but in any case you can replace them after exporting.

You can not disable day/night cycle, all you can do is to modify the day lenght by editing the DayLenght variable in glest.ini (lenght is in seconds).

Hi,

Rotated climb is that the unit rotates when it moves through cells with different altitude. But it's yet unimplemented. There is only another property: the "burnable" property that causes the unit to burn when it takes damage (it's used for buildings).

Thanx for your comments. It really seems that magic units have no good defense against rush. The problem is that if we increase the number of starting units for the magic faction they could rush tech factions. We should think on any other defensive mechanisms.

I think that it's only possible to make translations to languages with latin characters, an as far as I know korean can not be written using ascii characters...

Hi redder, thanx for your comments.

- I've already fixed the bug. Thanx for reporting it.

- I think we will upgrade the initiate attack rate and HP to make it stronger, but we must be carefull because if not they could be used for attacking tech factions at the beggining of the game. We accept any suggestions here.

- Ranged units can't hit moving units if they attack slower than the units move. Since initiates attack very slowly they use to hit no enemy moving unit. Anyway, when a group of units moves ranged units usually hit some of them, although maybe not the unit they are targeting.

- Mage units also have shorter sight range (we will correct this for next version) so IA usually manages them not as efficiently as magic units.

- In any case I think that magic is stronger later, because of archmages and dragons. Battle Machines and catapults are big units and are difficult to manage in the battlefield.

It seems that you have installed this version over an old one. If you made this, the exe file tries to read xml files in old format and you get an error. Please uninstall any previous version and reinstall the game.

Yes thats the problem, we want first to finish the single player game. Then when v1.0 is released we will think on future lines of work. I know that multiplayer is a very important feature in a RTS, but I can't promise anything.

Editing faction colors is easy, you just have to add transparency to the textures in photoshop (you have to save them as TGA, not as BMP), and then mark the objects you want in 3dsmax. Objects marked with CustomTexture=True will have their alpha component replaced by the faction color, any other objects will have transparency as usual.
