Tools / creating higher poly versions of factions

I'm working on the Megapack and this is a killer... :P
I have been working on a higher poly tech faction mod. (not to replace the current version but just for players who are interested in trying out higher quality graphics ;) ). I was also planing on moving onto creating a higher poly magic afterwards. If you would like me to stop me creating these mods respond and I will begin work on an entirely new faction. When I was hosting a Megaglest 3.6.1 Rev 3362 game on windows 7, I decided to use a custom map. But, when nig joined the game (using the same rev) on openSUSE 12.1 GNU (64 bit), while attempting to download the map the game crashed on him, which brought up this message:

Note that this error still occurred even after both of us did a full rebuild
Nig was able to work-around this problem by opening megaglest using the start_megaglest shell script

No errors showed up in windows. Although, in game the message "nig is missing the map <map name>" kept repeating.
