I have no idea if this makes any sense, but how about this: After capturing a building, it has to be converted to a building of your own faction before it can start producing anything. Since there isn't any 1:1 correspondence to everything, maybe it could convert to a building that uses a similar amount of resources to build, or you could get a choice of buildings to convert to, with time or resource costs attached depending on the difference in worth.

Thanks, that was fun to watch.

I actually did that translation right after the feature was implemented, before the discussion started that it was not to be used. The Glest forks were my first bigger localisation project and my first release, so I tend to get a bit emotional about it.

Also, Gaelic has been struggling against certain English monolinguals for a 1000 years now, so for me the issue is a political rather than a practical one. Hence the conflict I guess :P

I once suggested we could have two separate language options in the game, one for the interface and one for the techs. Then players could switch to a common language (not necessarily English!) for their multiplayer games. Game language could be agreed on in the lobby. I've just have another idea: When somebody sets up a multiplayer game, tech language is defined there, and people can then see which language the game is in in the list of games that are running. I've seen this before somewhere, so it it technically doable, if the devs have the time and want to implement this.

There is no point in doing all this translation work if an average user is unable to install them. I have a huge localization queue and I won't spend my time on something that has no chance of seeing an official release. :(

Thanks!

I translated these when they were first implemented. Is it possible to update the english.lng files with the new changes and to get them up on Transifex?

Tools / Nullsoft's NSIS - new translation (gd)
« on: 21 March 2013, 14:17:12 »
I noticed we are using Nullsoft's NIS to create the Windows installer.

I'm currently on an installer localizing rampage and I finished the translation about 5 minutes ago  :O

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=357782

I could not test this, so I hope everything parses correctly. The files are in UTF-8 encoding.

Forum discussion / Re: [Forum] The next step
« on: 21 March 2013, 11:56:03 »
I think the Megaglest subforums (bugs & feature reqest) could be moved to the main level now, because they are the ones that see the most activity in that section. Maybe even a separate Megaglest section with:

Megaglest General Discussion
Megaglest Feature Requests
Megaglest Bugs

If we go for a separate section, we could then have another section for the GAE and Mandate forks.

BTW I noticed that it's hard to distinguish "new" from the thread title in the thread list. Maybe a graphic is missing?

So that's what the maintenance mode was all about... I hope the move went smoothly. I've done a few in my lifetime and these things can be a bloomin' nightmare.

That would reduce this to preaching to the choir though, which is quite useless :P

How about a simple "Linux rocks"?

112
Yes, I agree. Much better than having to rewrite printf, since gettext has already done the job. Plus the benefits of the PO format - translators could use their own translation memories, and they have a good plural system as well.

113
So, that means unless the devs find the time to switch us to gettext, it's not doable. Do I understand this right?

Feature requests / Allow translators to change order of placeholders
« on: 16 February 2013, 19:33:45 »
I just noticed that some of my translations ended up a bit stilted when I originally translated the game about a year ago.

Is it possible to use %1s, %2s etc instead of just %s, and if not, can this be implemented? This would allow a natural word order in all translations.

Thanks!

I've got my translation back to 100% now :)

I still had a bookmark in my browser for this which I have now replaced :)

I am having difficulty with one of the new strings.

I just tried getting a daily build. The link to the exe did not work, so I got the whole package. Something's not right there though, e.g. instead of megaglest.exe I have megaglest.exp, megaglest.lib and megaglest.pdb. I have no idea how to install this.

Squashed and stretched images are one of my pet peeves, to this gets a thumbs up from me :)

I think the font issue might be a general graphics issue. I find the overall graphics pretty fuzzy as compared to Vanilla Glest or GAE.

Thanks!

« on: 11 January 2013, 18:55:05 »
Yep, Transifex is "just" a platform.

I'm personally a big fan of po files, but that would take some extra programming. So, Transifex is a good solution to make the translations easier to handle.

Before you duplicate any efforts, work has been done on this before: https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=8292.0

I had also made a feature request: https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=8718.0

Currently, IMHO our biggest problem is to overcome the resistance from the English monolingual community so we can get this on Transifex.

Maybe you could work with ISO language codes instead of the language names? I remember having a discussion about changing the names of the lng files to ISO codes somwhere in this forum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes

Common practice is to go with ISO 639-1: two-letter codes plus an optional two-letter country code, e.g. en_US or gd.
