@GunChleoc: I don't know what you mean with this::

"Exit current game?" is still one string, I have pointed out before that it needs to be split into a menu entry and a dialog question. One does not put question marks on menu buttons. This is a legacy from Vanilla Glest and it's time it got fixed.

Does the picture explain it? The first picture should not have a question mark in it. When you click the button, you get what's in the second picture, which is correct. Be careful when you fix it that you create separate string IDs for them.

"Announcement form masterserver" is just a txt form the masterserver and can be changed any time we want. By this its not translated.
For all the non translatable strings, that's something that will not be changed in this release.
Understandable. Since the message from the masterserver isn't tied to the release and can change often, we'll have to leave it in English. Translating it wouldn't be practical.

This new string needds fixing:

Code: [Select]
Your firewall or router is not properly configured to host games.

To fix it you can:
- simply use a headless server in the internet menu
-Or visit faqs.megaglest.org to read how to setup your router

Capitalize first list item: - Simply use.
Add a blank space in the bottom row: - Or visit.

...- Keyboard keybinding names are untranslatable
- In the "About" screen, some strings aren't translated (web, bug reports, copyright)...
For these in general we need very trusted/verified translations what isn't possible currently, because number of active translators (for each language) is not enough large. For example by bad translation "key shortcut" may do something different than description.
Summing up: it is possible to do but not so easy.
But this is true of other translations also - anything can be misleading if translated badly. I don't see what makes keybindings more special than e.g. graphics settings.

...Internet lobby: Yellow greeting announcement from Masterserver is in English...
This text is taken each time from masterserver. Translation isn't a problem here but when someone will change this text on masterserver then translation will disappear. I had personal patch for this maybe 2 years ago but since this time message was changed few times.
Summing up: it is possible to do but not so easy.
It would have to be a separate translation file then? I understand that content that can change frequently is a problem. Since we're not using gettext, I also don't know what will happen to translations if there is a small change in the source string - with gettext, my Translation Memory would find the old string + mark the changes in the English string for me.

Feature requests / Re: Implement word wrap for Loading Screen Hints
« on: 8 December 2014, 20:56:24 »
The view on Transifex is better, because they parse the \n at least. I must have tabbed past the problematic entry, because there's 45 of them.

Feature requests / Implement word wrap for Loading Screen Hints
« on: 8 December 2014, 13:33:54 »
At the moment, line breaks for the Loading Screen Hints are done manualy with \n.

Maybe there is a way to reuse the code for dialog boxes to have them wordwrapped instead?

I just had one of them overflowing the screen in my translation and I don't remember which one it is, so it is hard to identify which string to fix.

I gave it a quick spin on Windows 7.

I hope it's alright if I pick apart the GUI a bit:

  • Keyboard keybinding names are untranslatable
  • In the "About" screen, some strings aren't translated (web, bug reports, copyright)
  • LAN setup: "Found games" is "Geamannan air an lorg" in the gd locale, which doesn't have enough space. I just shortened the string to this from something even longer, but I expect it still won't fit in the label. Make it as wide as the server IP address field and it will both fit and look less cluttered.
  • LAN hosting: The "Clear Blocked Players" label needs to fit "Glan na cluicheadairean bacte"
  • Internet lobby: Yellow greeting announcement from Masterserver is in English
  • Serverlist fonts have no contrast to the menu background, very hard to read.
  • Custom Game: "Shared Team Units" and "Shared Team Resources" should right-align to their checkboxes. "Scenario" and "Advanced options" should have right-aligned checkboxes in the same vertical axis, with their labels right-aligned to the left of them
  • "Exit current game?" is still one string, I have pointed out before that it needs to be split into a menu entry and a dialog question. One does not put question marks on menu buttons. This is a legacy from Vanilla Glest and it's time it got fixed.

Also, options menus take ages to load. I also have lag when selecting a building in-game.

We recently had a similar discussion on the Widelands project, and we got some explanations from the Debian maintainer there..

Start reading from #23.

I'm not a fan of looking at blurred stuff, it makes my brain go funny. Maybe try desaturating/lowering the contrast and playing with the brightness.

How about having two circles, an outer one for selection/team color and an inner one for EP/health. Or vice versa.

Maybe we should just go with a nifty but static image then. Personally, I have always hated having to wait for my browser to compute/download nifty blinky moving stuff, when all I want is to access a piece of information.

The animation I was trying to do was only a blend animation anyway, beybe someone who knows HTML5/CSS well can generate the same off the images in the xcf. That would be the solution that uses least bandwidth.

The format I get from Gimp is an animated gif that's around 25 MB. You really want the users to load such a big file in their browser, just so they can look at some stats?

Here are some cloud variations: http://www.foramnagaidhlig.net/temp/clouds.zip

I don't know how to animate them though without causing huge files.

I set the filter to make them tileable, so the background on huge screens could be filled with these (CSS background repeat).

Looks like a standard cloud effect to me, so a static version should be easy to generate.

Filters -> Render -> Clouds -> Take your pick.

What resolution do you need?

MegaGlest / Re: lua function unitName broken ?

We definitely need 2 functions here - one to return an internal name fr coding reference, and one to return the (translated) name that the player will see on screen.

The German TV station ZDF did an interview with Edward Snowden a couple of weeks ago. It was originally geo-locked because of some "legal" issues, but you can now watch it:

Mods / String questions for translation
« on: 1 March 2014, 09:20:37 »
I have started hitting the mods translations, and I will post in this thread whenever I need help with a string.

My first questions are for megapack_c1.1 - not official version, with language corrections

barn - which building from the original megapack does this replace?

build_advanced_b. - build advanced what?

You could join the translation team on Transifex and talk to your fellow translators. Improvement is always good :)

From a translator's view, they are working on using gettext as a translation system which is a major plus.

As for gameplay, they still have serious problems with lag at the moment. It's going to rock once they manage to solve that problem though.

I have never modelled anything nor have I ever created any game content, so I can't comment on that side of things. I do have a soft spot for Megaglest though, because it was my first official l10n release :)

Actually, it's 3 buttons vs. 1 button ;)

Current option: F8, screenshot, f8

Desired option: screenshot

Using CE-GUI takes care of word wrapping in message boxes, adds scrollbars when the text is too large to fit the view area, ensures you cannot click under the messagebox on buttons below, allows you to drag the dialog around out of the way.
This is excellent news :)
