General discussion / Re: Compiling Glest 3.2.2

Sorry tomreyn, I clarified my post. It's just about compiling. But actually I'm not aware that MegaGlest can produce temporary files! :)

I want to compile Glest because it compiles fast. Also it's much simpler & easier to manage. Actually GAE's source code is the thing I'm looking for, and I want an older version to start with (for example, v0.2.7 or lower), but probably they are not available. MG is quite interesting, but too complicated & structured IMO, so I think adding some features to MegaGlest is not a good idea. Also, (it) the compiler produces lots of temporary files and makes my computer slow down.

Update : I've fixed almost of compiling errors. The only problem is "glu.h" header is missing. I think it's available on http://www.xfree86.org, but the site itself makes me confused and I don't know how to download it. Could anyone tell me how to get this file? Thanks.

General discussion / Compiling Glest 3.2.2
« on: 2 August 2013, 02:05:02 »
I'm trying to compile the base Glest using VC++ 2010. I checked "https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=or34ss8svg51qp6s23ierndjhci4jv4m&topic=3271.0" to download the original project & deps but all links are dead. The instruction doesn't provide enough information to compile Glest properly. Could anyone give me the original project + deps or some more instructions(deps) to compile Glest? Thanks.

@tiger
What the version of Blender are you using? (2.49... or 2.64????)
I don't know where I can find & download Blender 2.49. It seems died. :(
Do you still have Blender 2.49 or a Blender link? If so, share with me, and any your help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I tried a search to compare between 2.49 and 2.64. Blender 2.64 has a modern and comfortable workspace, also it has been taken lots of new features and optimizations. And Blender 2.49? Best for starters, but I doubt is there any problem when I want to switch away from 2.49 to 2.64 or higher???

I should choose 2.49 (The best place to start) or v2.64 (The strongest version)?? And I have a more doubt is rendering with Blender is a little slow. I downloaded a *.Blend example and I see 'It took about 58 minutes with 100% CPU usage to complete its rendering with a lovely movie output!' And you? How long did it take when you had told the program to render your movies? :)

Sorry, Tiger. :)
Excuse me.

Now I started learning Blender now.
I was too busy, so I did not have any time to look at Blender.
As a Blender starter, I don't know the first thing I have to do with Blender. In short, my intention is :
I want to make a simple bottle or a can (Maybe it's too hard?)
Or simply I only want to apply a or multiple textures to a Blender object.

I also want to learn more how to select objects, resize, rotate a object etc... by the mouse. And some common and popular hotkeys, camera, selection menus, and view modes, rendering....

Ok,the first lesson...that's enough !! Actually I want to learn more, but maybe making a simple object by Blender requires lots of time, and I have to practise myself more, and more... I love making my own movies and character models for my own Glest mod and show everybody any my own product that I've finished. I learn Blender through the help, remarks, suggestions... from others and my mistakes. Help me please (Hope all goes well...)

Very nice !! You're doing as a expert !
About this episode : No need to say more. It's great !
I'm suprised, why can you make these trailers & films? Vectors, meshes, models, textures, animations, colors, actions, collision, splashs, sounds, musics, stories, X Y Z positions etc... !??

I'm in very beginner stage and I need your advices.... Help !
Mesh is the most difficult problem. Second : Texture searching & flitering problem.
Third : Actions and animations.
Fourth : Color blending & physics, collision.
Fifth : Events, time sorting scheduling.

My intention is make a short story about "The Adventure of A Fairy"  but now (???) 'reduced' to make a real character. I think it's....????

And, where can I find necessary textures to make any person ? And tricks ? (Don't in short you answer 'by google'. I don't need them :) ?!!???)

And finally, remark your episodes : so good :) +1
Double thumbs up !!!!

Feature requests / Animations sharing
« on: 1 October 2012, 15:16:58 »
Hi.

I'd like a setting for animation tag. Perhaps this small idea will be useful.

When adding a new unit which uses old original models, this can be an effective method to save disk-memory space, and make game run faster.
Use original models with specific texture but we can re-mix it easily without duplicate models for another texture.
An example : Tech's archer and Tech's armored archer. Both these units use original models from Tech's archer. Only the different between 'armored' and 'unarmored' is each unit has a different texture. So if this tweak is applied, we will have more choice to add new units without duplicate models.
Remark : Some of models can require two or more various textures, but I only mention about one-model-texture.

An example code :
Code: [Select]
<animation path="../archer/models/archer_attacking.g3d" texture="models/texture_archer.tga"/>

I agree with Ishmaru, your idea can be used for create more options about quality and performance, but it can require more double or tripple disk  space, and remake all various-quality models and textures need too much time.

Hi, MoLAoS ! Your complaint ? Thanks. You're helpful. You said : My thread is too too short so you are not understandable ? Thanks again, but could you wait me a bit ? My topic is just posted and you complained me too soon.

And, please correct me, if I get wrong.

General discussion / Layered cellmap
« on: 29 September 2012, 07:17:50 »
Multiple/Layered cellmap (by height) is a feature that can allow any units walk on it (both walking up or down the cellmap)
It's very great if this feature is added into GAE. In my opinion, this feature is very useful (but I'm not sure)
Ex : Tech's Castle has a layered cellmap.

It can apply for : Layered buildings or Towers.
When any layered building collapse, all units that stand on it will be die. (Except first cellmap)
And about me : I'd like to able to make tower models which have serveral floors, and I will place an Archer or Infantry army on it...

Too hard ? Capture units : Never, but I think the tag-exceptions can be done in furture.
No comments ? No opinions ?

MegaGlest / Re: Hello Topic
« on: 28 September 2012, 21:01:23 »
Hello. I'm Lican. I've been playing Glest for 1 year.
Now I'm living in New York. I'm learning programming. Basic, basic programmer, C++, and nothing special...
Hiphop dance is my favourite. Not very poor, but not very good. The most diffcult of this dance is how to controlling the hips. So I should spent more time to practise,...
I love Glest because while I'm playing Glest I can easily capture awesome screenshots, smart AI & XML system, library of units, and much more...
My computer :
512 Mb RAM  (One another 1 Gb Ram has been damaged, should be upgraded soon), 192 Mb are used for Video card memory.
CPU : 2.9 GHz

When will the GAE v 4.0 Full Release be released ?

Some text files are very hard to read by Windows Notepad (when printing enter characters). Notepad++ can solve this problem.
Maybe it would help, to tell what your program does? I have no idea what it's for and won't run software where I have no Idea what it will do.
To tell what your program does ? Simply, It looks like as Notepad software.

General features :
Holds almost features of old Notepad. (Such as Copy (Ctrl + C), Shift left - right selected text, ... and editing is allowed).
Reads multi languages.
Supports insert images (Will be improved on next release)

Next Upgrade :
- Image tools.
- Effects support. (Such as water effect)
- New file extension.
- Buttons, dialogs, and more...
Let's make a static image become a animated & colorful picture !

How to test : Just try all features (See help page). Do everything that my program can support : Open file, copy, paste, edit, insert, cut, shift selected text, change size or color, align text, explore setting files, etc... to find missing languages, bugs and easily express your comments or ideas.
