...Observations:
- I ran Megaglest v3.9 immediately afterwards - with no difficulties.
- The v3.11.1 application is very much smaller (> 300MB) than previous versions: is this just coincidental?...
Previous releases were mostly distributed by .zip package which Mac OS know and can unpack almost imperceptible, then you are probably comparing "unpacked game" vs .dmg.

... for this release exist both .zip and .dmg packages

Problem: The latest Megaglest 3.11.1 app for OSX does not run. Attempting to run the application causes it to consistently quit automatically generating a standard error message

I am running previous Megaglest OSX versions (3.7 and 3.9) on the same computer with no problems.

Any advice appreciated.

Basically problem is related with "OS Version".
We have access to Mac OS 10.10 and based on compatibility table game should work on 10.9+

In general Apple forces developers to not support older versions of OS.

- first possibility - update your version of OS
 (Of course we know how Apple operates and it is not always possible.)

- second possibility- build game yourself
 Recently we have prepared some tools and with guide it shouldn't be tough process :)

Description should tell a bit more than just "2 cores" because since few years computer's evolution doesn't go always forward ::) (but the price always :P).

On the market exist some NEW odd computers with "atom inside" even with @1,3GHz.
^ New PC? = yes, 2 cores? = yes, can handle MG? = no, was this PC enough cheap in relation to the performance? = definitely no :-X

(This was reported for the Annex originally, where 3.9.1 is still latest, and looks like a bit that this person like to test everything with "Annex" in the name :D.)

By the way (a bit related) for me on KDE (nvidia proprietary driver) even launching fullscreen MG with not the same screen resolution as general desktop's resolution might "screws up screen setup", not always but also it wasn't very rare, but since long time I am launching fullscreen MG with "resolution=resolution" then I don't know about does anything changed in this case.

I also remember some recommendation in some "debian's guide"(probably) that more preferred "default mode" is a "window mode" and there were some examples why, which were somehow related with this report.

I don't know why I haven't seen those posts earlier.

Those problems were fixed a lot of time ago just it wasn't officially released yet, then fixing it again by everyone doesn't make big sense.

well for tournament we need first at least ~10 constantly (every day a game etc.) active players which additionally all should can play at the same time, and we don't have them yet  :-X

Every time I come on Glest I hope there are servers up..
And when there is, nobody is in the lobby..

Very nice thing may be the possibility to set somewhere (in .ini or maybe even better as additional file in data path) during creating packages the game's version number which is not equal to MG version number.
As example I will show Annex.

The most important/useful place to use this is in lobby:

...and if engine will use this set version to check does game is "compatible or incompatible" it will be awesome.

The second nice place to use it is of course in the main menu:

...currently Annex has it hidden there.

Today I got it twice:

On the [Rev: 4958.b5d6095] it is fixed, but I found something new:

how reproduce:
the same start, romans & all upgrades > produce archer > you see sight 15+1 and you see armor 10+6 > now move general next to this archer > you see sight 15+3 (should be +2) and you see armor 10+12 (should be still +6)

... because general gives boost: +1 to sight and nothing to armor

In my opinion I just should have the ability to pay off the debt (min. 190+, full 2190 for "clear situation"), it wasn't possible because I had maximum 2000/2000, it was a limit and I couldn't get more.

I just tested this on head [Rev: 4948.5b82859]. It is not just a shine, boost also doesn't work. I bet it is somehow related with "tags".

When cpu in my team was killed (completely) then I stuck with "team debt" and I couldn't build or produce anything.



... also cpu is stealing a bit to much, somewhere should be added some limit for this.

I know one very new bug.

Advanced transifex menu is placed too low now and its buttons overlap standard buttons.

  • LAN setup: "Found games" is "Geamannan air an lorg" in the gd locale, which doesn't have enough space. I just shortened the string to this from something even longer, but I expect it still won't fit in the label. Make it as wide as the server IP address field and it will both fit and look less cluttered.
  • LAN hosting: The "Clear Blocked Players" label needs to fit "Glan na cluicheadairean bacte"
  • Serverlist fonts have no contrast to the menu background, very hard to read.
  • Custom Game: "Shared Team Units" and "Shared Team Resources" should right-align to their checkboxes. "Scenario" and "Advanced options" should have right-aligned checkboxes in the same vertical axis, with their labels right-aligned to the left of them
  • "Exit current game?" is still one string, I have pointed out before that it needs to be split into a menu entry and a dialog question. One does not put question marks on menu buttons. This is a legacy from Vanilla Glest and it's time it got fixed.
Also, options menus take ages to load...

... also some differences between game configuration screens (own hosted vs headless) are nasty. The worst is related with "start game button". On headless is located on the left, in other case on the right ::). In my opinion many times, many people clicked "reload las..." instead of "start".
... and this reminded me about broken "reload last..." function on headless.

...- Keyboard keybinding names are untranslatable
- In the "About" screen, some strings aren't translated (web, bug reports, copyright)...
For these in general we need very trusted/verified translations what isn't possible currently, because number of active translators (for each language) is not enough large. For example by bad translation "key shortcut" may do something different than description.
Summing up: it is possible to do but not so easy.

...Internet lobby: Yellow greeting announcement from Masterserver is in English...
This text is taken each time from masterserver. Translation isn't a problem here but when someone will change this text on masterserver then translation will disappear. I had personal patch for this maybe 2 years ago but since this time message was changed few times.
Summing up: it is possible to do but not so easy.
