Well, I previously meant that we could mix up a lot of the tilesets into a special one, just for that scenario. Not sure if the Annex one will really fit Earth...
Not current version but the original was very Earth like, and designed for multiple biomes as well.
The It should be bigger for he world but how big i have lag issues with 256x256 maps... If this were a scenario it should be done foe GAE as it has boats!! Whats the earth without naval battles?
Oh, ok. Yeah, it seems like this needs to be a 256x256 map, or even a 512x512 map.
If it becomes a scenario, I agree. Though then a lot of people would miss out...Maybe we should have specific maps for each country.  :D

GAE logic? IMO there isn't really such a thing. Maybe there is, I don't know. IMO it's just opinion. Maybe when GAE gets thousands of downloads they will change some things...

Not sure if MG is more of a specific kind of game, it's just basically a more stable Vanilla Glest with a lot more features. It's missing things, but it has the essentials to be a decent game. GAE, is a bit different. It's decent, but it's kinda missing those things. At least, for me. After playing some other RTS, I feel that even though it has a lot of nice features, I wouldn't really use most of them. I'd use other features, the ones that are hard to implement...

Quote
And besides, the question is always "why", NOT "why not", when dealing with feature requests.
Exactly. And for GAE I'd rather have a "stable" release than a few new features, especially since it needs to finish/polish things first, like the options menu and addons...

Are you really suggesting MG and GAE shouldn't collaberate or cooperate at all? If we become too proud and stuck up to even share ideas, infomation and ultimately work that would be mutuality benefital; then there isn't really even a reason for MG and GAE to be on the same forum  :-X.
I hope the Devs never come to that and comunity will never get that petty. If anything we should looking at ways to collaberate more so the community won't be so divided.
I'm not suggesting that, the fact is that everything is probably going to be like that. Or mostly, anyways. Kinda was suggesting the opposite of that though. There isn't much to collaborate anymore on anyways...it was either merge, or not.

I proposed the code for this and i absolutely want gae to take it too.    We discussed it with silnarm on IRC when I originally submitted to mg.

I want gae to take future particle work too.

Everyone can stop building walls of words now.
I know, I was just using this as an example.

That would be awesome.  Maybe use the Annex tileset when it comes out?
Sure, and the all of the other awesome tilesets.
Oh, well I specifically meant that one because it handles multiple biomes already, and AFAIK there's no way to mix-and-match tilesets in a map/scenario.

If the value could be same for every single human, I suppose that would be better...but I still wouldn't really like it for the same reasons. Well, it's up to titi.

206
Have you considered adding cliffs and mountains near, say, the Andes, Himalayas, Rockies, etc?
Good idea.

Maybe this could be turned into a special scenario which uses a mix of tilesets and factions for each country, that would be cool. :D

Oh, also:
if we wanted that we wouldn't have removed that in the first place
Was it ever there?
You should check things, even if you have your own doubts. Seriously.   A simple search...
https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=6087.msg62158#msg62158
Anyways, "back in the day" it was there for testing.

Valid reasoning required. The question isn't why, I already explained that. The question is: Why not? After all, the most brilliant part is that you DON'T HAVE TO USE IT! It's at the player's own discretion (and if single player only, it would never affect anyone else. If multiplayer available, perhaps it would require all players to agree to that). It would be a fun feature when you want a faster game, or a "bigger" game. It's like how Project Green was made to let players skip resource gathering and jump right into the action. Instead, you can speed up the resource gathering (on any faction too) to jump into the action faster. Or you could pit yourself with a 3x multiplier against a CPU with a 5x multiplier, just for insanely epic battles.
Well, sometimes valid reasoning is not required, if it's kinda like common sense.
I just believe it's not fun and it messes up the gameplay, even if it's singleplayer. If people really want more units they can just speedup the gameplay. I think others have the same opinion...Overall since most people play MG for multiplayer, it was removed so people wouldn't use it to cheat.

Tools / Re: Glest XML Editor! [version 2 beta now out]
« on: 19 June 2011, 06:39:16 »
I think for people to make their XMLs from scratch, they need to be able to type fast. And then there are other type of  foreign keyboards, and I'm not so sure it would be easy to type what is needed...

Feature requests / Re: Re: Changes to Projectiles and Splashes

I think it'd be only fair for MG to get a feature of GAE everytime the GAE team ports or copies the code...although most of the features would probably take a decent amount of testing I'm sure a few would be pretty simple...  :)
If you really must bring that up here, then we may as well just merge the engines, right?
There's no "really" in this, as it's true.
Quote
Besides, GAE and MG are both GPL. They can copy all they want.
And even though that's true, somehow it's not. If it was really like that, I'm sure we would have ported some of GAE's features by now. I remember Silnarm getting mad when softcoder supposedly copied some code. Perhaps that's another reason why the MG team doesn't really copy the code whenever GAE has something similar... But that was a long time ago. Still, if it was really like that we would've had at least one feature... Titi was originally the one who implemented particles, anyways.

MegaGlest / Re: Bug: no more auto heal/repair
« on: 19 June 2011, 06:29:24 »
No, GAE's auto repair is messy. In fact, some there should be "rules" where auto repair is not on for some units...or else it's suicide.  This is better because it's more controlled, and it's actually real nice. I don't think titi should give up on it. And titi isn't the biggest supporter of auto-repair, if you remember. I think it's good, but there should be more rules so it's not so messy. The only real chance of having a merge is porting GAE features to MG when they are both stable... Softcoder seems to be a lot more busy now too, I haven't seen him for days.  :-X

Anyways I believe this feature would be great, but first it needs to be stabilized and perhaps there should be a button for it too...

Feature requests / Re: Discussion about Resource Modifiers
« on: 18 June 2011, 08:43:38 »
Because that would be cheating!  :o
It could still be interesting in a single player game. Rather than decreasing what your opponents get, increase what you get, so that you can produce more units faster, etc... In fact, now that I think of it, it could be a very fun feature, and as long as used properly and not hidden, it would even be fine in multiplayer. Make that a feature request!
No thanks, if we wanted that we wouldn't have removed that in the first place. Could be evolved into something more, but now is not the time.
Perhaps there should be an option in options menu to have "advance options always on" or at least resource multipliers, and have it initially set to off when first installed.
This will make it less overwhelming to newbies and have convenience for experienced players.
Well, that would be nice. I think the resource multipliers and the observer mode should always be on or they should be on by default, though.

MegaGlest / Re: Bug: no more auto heal/repair
« on: 18 June 2011, 08:37:01 »
That must have been a dev version, actually. I think titi was working on an "area repair" but never got it stabilized, now he's working on something else.  He accidentally added it a while ago, then he removed it cause it wasn't finished. Otherwise, I don't think 3.5.1 had this...

Oh you're on a Mac...yeah, I heard later on someone is going to help the MG team with that, hopefully by the next version. Hopefully the same thing goes with GAE.

Good luck with your site!

Yeah, the Earth one is nice. Not sure the name really fits though, it is just Earth. I also agree, if you could make the same shape but instead as 256x128, I'm sure some of us could add in on details...
Maybe this could be turned into a special scenario which uses a mix of tilesets and factions for each country, that would be cool. :D

Also, please don't use Megaupload. There's always better alternatives, such as Mediafire, Gamefront, or kiwi6.
I've replaced the downloads with Mediafire.

Nice site, bookmarked! But yes, you should review MegaGlest (http://megaglest.org) and GAE too. Glest isn't developed anymore. I also agree on mentioning about mods. And you should probably try the new and upcoming mods too, such as the Sci-Fi pack, Dinosaurs, and Annex.

Thanks.

Closed bug reports / Re: incomplete buildings bug in 3.5.2
« on: 15 June 2011, 20:29:43 »
Its not a modder's mistake if its intentional, he may have a good reason to not have a repair skill, beside it is his mod.  MANY commercial RTS have abilities to refund units, including highly successful ones such as C&C Starcraft Rise of Nations t name a few... You don't necessarily have to get all resources back, only a portion.
Anyway, this should be a separate feature request topic as it doesn't have anything to do with the Bug of AI not finishing their buildings. (well only slightly...)
 Would be a great feature. I'd probably use it more when I accidentally place buildings at a bad place. Bad place=blocks other buildings or the opening of the building is blocked. Happens every now and then.

Also, I check the forums at least once a day, usually a few times, though, we do have timezone differences. Germany is a long way from Canada. Plus, I just don't reply to everything. "lol" is not a worthy reply. I also don't reply to say "sorry, didn't try it, unlikely to" nor do I reply in "stupid" topics (not to name any).
Hmm...you won't reply to people who include chatspeak such as "lol", but you would reply to people who use smilies instead?
Stupid topics...only the OT section had/have pointless topics, at least for me.
Where'd you get "Germany" from? Elim is from Canada, and I think jim is from Kenya...

Exactly what Hailstone said, I'm glad that the developers are handling things much more maturely than before. I mean they were before, but sometimes it got tense...
Although, I'm not so sure on that compromise. It's fine like how it is now, if people make mods like the Sci Fi Pack, then they can just make it all for MG first and then add GAE features.
