Changing the forum layout?

Given that Glest has not seen any more development for the past >= 3 years, and that, while there hasn't been a public statement on this, many are convinced that it will not continue to be developed in the future, the overall board layout should probably be restructured, many forums renamed or archived, which should include, but not be limited to, this board.

Suggestion on how to proceed? I'd say easiest way is to make an archives category and place this in it, tweaking the description slightly. I strongly oppose deleting it entirely though; some threads may come in handy in the future, and no harm in keeping it.

I was almost positive that it had been officially announced that vanilla Glest would be no more, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.  Maybe it got wiped out in the Great Data Loss.

The closest I can find is this:

I don't think we will develop glest in the way we used to do before, this is, adding new big features, however the project is far from dead, we will keep on updating if with bugfixes and improvements when it makes sense, and we will provide full support to the GAE team.

As for the GAE team I think their first priority should be to integrate 3.2.0 and make it more stable.

We could do the same to multiplayer, I suppose.  I guess the ports board could stay open in case someone wants to run Glest on Solaris or a potato or something.

I could support this. However, I'd rather get consensus for such a change (which isn't by any means earthshattering, and most posters won't even notice a difference, since they don't use those "dead" boards). So, opinions?

In addition to moving MG's and GAE's forums into General I'd actually archive all of the Multiplayer, Linux and other Ports and Bug report forums if it's okay with them.
If we cannot get an agreement on this, a better option than keeping things as they are now might be to move both the MG and GAE forums to a different host where they can be presented in a way that is not causing irritations, and to place redirections here. This doesn't mean disrupting a community since there is not really a vanilla Glest community these days (and I'm not suggesting to disjoint the MG + GAE forums).

Firstly, I don't think it should move to a different host; that would kill the boards, as the majority of new members find GAE and MG after Glest, and is the source of most traffic. If we get a general consensus to move the MG and GAE boards up to general and archive the Multiplayer, Linux and other Ports, and Bug reports forums; I'll drop a word with the Glest Team to make sure it's ok with them. Though I think we need to make sure we have strong support in the community first.

I think we should actually have separate translations forums, too, since translations for MG and GAE are not compatible. And the current 'translations' board should be moved to the 'archive' section. I keep missing it when people post to the current 'translations' forum simply because I mostly watch the 'MegaGlest' and its subforums.

So in other words, ditch the current translations board (and I suppose move MG related translation threads) in favour of two new translation child boards under GAE and MG respectively? Though, would GAE even have much for translation threads? Only specific one I can recall is John's spanish translation...

Hmm, can't help but agree with that... And either way, I'd say the old translations board needs to go.
