The Greeks
« on: 30 May 2019, 20:42:42 »
I started working on a Greeks faction. It's mostly derived from vbros_2 techtree created by Eliminator.

The priest and the chicken farm models are from the Egypt Remaster

The Trojan Horse model was created by Keith Sammut (Earth Breach)

Download: greeks_A1.7z

The repo is at https://github.com/zetaglest/greeks-testing

Pretty cool Andy  It looks well crafted! I will give it a try when I got time

Are you going to stick to some historical realism or more fantasy?
I translated Megaglest in italian and i keep the translation updated.

@Pizza, thanks. It'll be about as "real" as the megapack factions. :) Won't change much at this point except for fine-tuning hopefully.

@Elvas, the "ball guy" is Atlas... condemned to carry the heavens on his shoulders. So.. the ball basically represents the sky.

I'm glad you like the new form, thanks for the feedback and for helping us test.

I'm sorry you find the chickens too loud. They are the same chickens and sounds used with the Egypt faction, I think. I bet it's something about the pitch that your noticing. I haven't heard anybody mention that its bothersome before. If you think it's something that needs changing, you could open a ticket on the repo so the volume levels can get adjusted in all the chicken audio files.

A8 released (Remember to ignore the zip and tar.gz  and only get the 7z file)

For this version, we've imported and adapted a few models from 0 A.D.

A9 will be the next release.

This is what things look like now: demo video

One new feature is that chickens can morph into larger chickens, and therefore provide more food (which means having to make fewer chickens).

The wild sow from the Norse faction has been added.

Atlas can be produced by priests.

Most units can heal faster when standing near a priest. A single priest provides +5 regen, and 5 priests gives +25. You can "radius-heal" allied units as well, by manually healing a unit that's near allied units.

Units standing near a temple get +3 regen points.

It's been a long time since I came here to the forums; I was busy with life since I last came a few years back, checking the forums once in a while.

Do you need help with creating or fixing the unit icons? The 0 A.D. images make the gameplay almost like the game.

I suggest changing the name of the "Civic Center" to "Agora" since that's the name used in the Hellenic factions. Saves a little bit of bytes. Any others?
Thanks!  ;)

Yes, Carl, thanks for the offer. The icons and the priest need work.

A reasonable suggestion, but then it would make sense to change the names for all the other units as well. Not impossible, but I don't see it as really worth it, and I think would be difficult for translators (if the techtree was ever translated in the future).

This seems cool, have not played MG in a bit, might be fun to get back in with a few games with the Greeks.  :)

Hey ElimiNator! The Greeks are the most awesome faction ever! ;) We still need a new priest though. :( We're using the Egyptian one now as a placeholder.

:O
Well there has been a lot of online testing of this faction, so it is pretty good at this point :)

we played this a bit today and I think we should reduce the build times for some buildings ( especially barracks)  and we should play around with lowering  the production time of some units too. This makes the gameplay a bit faster and lets the CPU-player play better because he gets more advantages form his gold fake.

Is it ok if I play around with it and check in if I have something good ?

Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

Titi, thanks for asking. I remembered there are also some other changes you wanted to make, such as not having large chickens. I think you should fork the repo and make whatever changes you think are best, and then eventually use your fork for including the Greeks into MegaPack.
