I'm confused about 'techs\magitech\factions\magic'
« on: 3 March 2006, 00:26:29 »
I'm confused a little bit.. i can't understand the ierarchy of this stuff techs\magitech\factions\magic

What is "thechs"? Is it a race? If it's a race, then why there's a subfolder called magitech? what's magitech?

If faction is sort of race, why it is not a first folder from the top,  like

\factions(races)\techs and
\factions(or races)\magic ??

I just can't ubnderstand why it's made that way and not like, well like in StarCraft

\races\terran
\races\zerg
\races\protoss

or just simplier

\race1\
\race2\
etc..

I'm just totally confused with all this techs magitechs magic techs, technomagics, magical technicians, technotechnics etc...

Please, give some explanation on this. I'm goin to heavy modify all the game logic, but i can't if i don't understand the current one :(

'Techs' means technologies, also, the technologies are in this folder. In it are the diferent sets of races (at moment only one, 'magitech', that has te magic and the technologic faction), the different types of resources, and the danger bonus and penalizers. The folder 'resources' has the diferent resources data, and the folder 'factions' contains the diferent factions: at moment, magic and technologic (tech).

Hope this will help you  ;)

So, the race is only one - magitech, and it has two sub-races - magic and techs, right?

No. The races are two, 'magic' and 'tech'.

'Magitech' is a tech tree. Every tech tree (at moment only one, 'magitech') has a group of races (in this case 'magic' and 'tech'), a group of resources, and its bonifications and penalizations.

So, the top folder "techs" is the folder for technological trees? And.. currently we have only one tech tree - magitech, which i common for the MAGIC -race and TECH -race, right?
And what if i want it different way, say:

races\race1\all_the_stuff_for_the_race1 (incl techtree)
races\race2\all_the_stuff_for_the_race2 (incl techtree)

etc... Is that possible? Where to start modifying?

I think you've to download the source code of Glest and modify the folders in all the files that need it.

or you could create a technological tree named race and put all races in it
