Units, ask for tips on how to use specific units
« on: 6 March 2006, 19:26:58 »
This thread is for anyone to post their thoughts on which units are overpowered/underpowered, and to ask for tips on how to use specific units.

Before I call any unit underpowered, I like to ask people how they it.

Archmage:  this guy doesn't seem worth it to me.  His attacks cause splash damage.  But, I only ever see him use the ice attack, I've never seen him use the fire attack.  He has low HP and he is slow.  For the same cost I'd rather have a dragon or three more battlemages.

Technician:  It would be nice if he healed everyone nearby.  Manually selecting a target to be healed is too much micromanagement.  Personally I never use the robotic upgrades.  The ornithopter is effective, but all the other mechanical devices don't seem worth it.

Armored swordsman/magic armor:  These guys are somewhat overpowered.  You can almost always win the game by massing 9-16 of these guys and attacking the enemy base, supported by archers or battle mages.  They can hack their way through swordsmen and demons like nobodies buisiness.

You have to manually use the fire attack. Archmages require a lot of micromanagement but they do massive damage, just use a weak unit to hold the enemy down for a second and attack with archmages.

You are right, healing is a bit tedious.

These units are less powerfull from 2.0-rc4, because now ranged units like battlemages or archmages will be much more effective against slow melee units. Before they used to miss always when shooting moving units.

Thanks for your reply martinho.  You're right horsemen have really changed the relative value of armored swordsmen.
