The linux version is always available in the CVS (the source code) and the data can be downloaded from sourceforge. However we will release a source package with the 2.0.0 soon.

> cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/glest login
> cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/glest co -P glest
> autogen.sh; configure; jam;
Then I download glest_data_2.0rc5.zip and i try to run.
>./glest
Exception: Font not found.

I think this must be because you have the wrong glest.ini file (there is a special one for linux), I think the right one is in the CVS.

No. I have this one from cvs and it is for Linux so something else must be wrong. How can i check what fonts i can write to this file? Now its "-*-utopia-*-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" and this doesn't work.

What about providing an autopackage for Glest?  It'll really attract Linux users out there!

First of all, congratulations to the release of Glest 2.0! There are quite a few new, very interesting features, and I actually put aside Spellforce 2 to play Glest ... and here I am, still playing Glest at 3:00 AM at night. ;)

I agree with the above poster that nights are a bit dark. Torches would be a great way to address the problem while at the same time adding an "atmospheric feature".

I still love the background music, by the way!

Heh campaigns/campaign editor would be an awesome step in the game. The difficulty with that is in a sense you have to make a game editor within the game, so that people can place units in specific parts and so forth. I think it would be neat to have an in-game map editor, sort of like Age of Empires has, and let the map editor be graphical, so that you actually see the ground, water, trees, etc.. rather than a big green blob.

And of course multiplayer is nice :)
