Glest: Evolution
« on: 11 June 2006, 19:39:46 »
Glest: Evolution is a fan page that has as main objective be a space to connect Glest modders and players.

It has a page where modders can upload their creations (extensions, maps, tilesets...), a board to talk about this creations and about Glest in general... We will also post some packs (for example the "14 Maps Pack" that can be downloaded as .zip, .rar, .tar.bz2, .tar.gz and self extracting .exe).

In a future we will also create our own Glest distribution with a selection of extensions and maps, all language files...

We hope for your participation!

Will Glest:Evolution be something like put together all mods and additional stuff and make one version out of it? I think all glest-modders should registering there...

If there is a high interest, we may build a svn free for third party. Our main goal is to get a real open source community gets part of the glest releases. This is not an opponent project to the official glest one. You do wonderful work! But it's an additional way to get the community more involved.

That's the way we want to do.
We want to build a base for modifications. How to do exactly we may discuss in the forum there.
Also we want to support an build of the main glest version with patches supported from the community. Sow e get a real open source glest.
One of these patches may be to have something like an internal modswitch in glest.
But also we want to get parts like savegame placed in a fullpackage-release there. And hopefully a muliplayer...

Yeah, I noticed that the website was going down off and on a few days ago, and now today its just absolutely dead. They might have taken down the Glest page since there weren't any new uploads for the game recently. Maybe it'll go up sooner or later, but you can download most of the mods that were on that website at www.glest.org then click on downloads.

Great News...

The Glest: Evolution website is back!

And with a new design! ;)

At moment it isn't finished at all (download section and forum missing) but you can access the downloads directory and get all the extensions we host directly.

I'll be happy if you read
Code: [Select]
this new and post a comment saying if you think we need a forum or not.

Hello,

thank you for the wonderfull Glest mods
Glest_Extension_Magic_Promotions, Glest_Extension_Dark_Dragon
and the Glest_Maps_Pack1!

Playing Glest on FreeBSD ( with the FreeBSD Glest Port )
with this wonderfull Mods.

Later i try to install Glest_Extension_Pikemod_Pack,
but with this one not be in luck.

Glest make a Coredump by loading:
Code: [Select]
Couldn't process event: Error loading Faction Types: techs/magitech
Error loading units: techs/magitech/factions/tech
Error loading UnitType: techs/magitech/factions/tech/units/hellebardier/hellebardier.xml
Exception caught loading 3d file: techs/magitech/factions/tech/units/hellebardier/models/hellebardier_standing.g3d
Can't open TGA file: techs/magitech/factions/tech/units/hellebardier/models/texture_map #3.tga
Speicherschutzverletzung(core dumped)

Is someone using Glest_Extension_Pikemod_Pack
with Linux or FreeBSD?

Is there an Error inside the "hellebardier_standing.g3d"
for Systems like FreeBSD or Linux?

Or is only a Error inside of the xml Files for the hellebardier?
Can Somenone run the Glest_Extension_Pikemod_Pack
on Linux?

Thanks in advance for hints to run
Glest_Extension_Pikemod_Pack.

Greetings, Fusselbaer

Hmmm, looks like he has problems with opening the texture. Look in your folder if texture_map#3.tga exist.

You could completly remove the hellebardier-folder out of the unit-folder, but maybe you get errors, beacause pikeman is related with it ... dunno

Hello toph,

thank you for your answer.

texture_Map #3.tga exist
in his model folder.
I think that is a strange file name,
with blank and # inside.

Greetings, Fusselbaer

Update:

Yiiipiii!
Now Glest is running with the
Glest_Extension_Pikemod_Pack!
Take a carefully look at: "texture_Map #3.tga",
there is a wonderfull upercase Char "M" inside.

If running my Glest install with the Unics pimped
Glest_Extension_Pikemod_Pack good,
perhaps i can repack the Glest_Extension_Pikemod_Pack_For_Unix.

Now i only ask me, if inside the
upgrades/pike_level_2/pike_level_2.xml
call the pike_2.bmp from his own images folder
or realy the sword2.bmp from the
upgrades/sword_level_2/images folder?
(there are no ../sword_level_2/
before "images/sword2.bmp")

OK, for now, i must play a lot for testing purpose.  ;)

The texture is auto-renamed by teh g3d-exporter and I was to lazy to change it afterwards...

Well, thats strange, the error says, that he cant opne this texture, but it exists...would be nice if somebody with a other OS could test this and see what happen...
