New Game Concept

I came up with an idea for new a strategy game set in Vietnam. I was wondering whether the Glest engine would support all these features and, if not, if anyone could suggest a more suitable engine.

So heres how it would work:

2 very different sides (US & VC)

US begins with a small handful of troops and a construction truck.

The construction truck contains US building resources and is run by 3/4 troops who can construct a number of things.

The primary construction for US is the helipad, from here nearly all units can be called in, delivered via helicopters (which can also be called in for use).

US can also construct 3 different tents; the hospital tent (it's pretty much in the name) run by a medic, the supplies tent (stores ammunition) run by an ammo man, and a command tent (where soldiers go for promotion which I will explain later) run by a CO.

VC begins with a handful of troops and peasants.

Peasents are the VC equivalent of construction trucks, with different advantages/disadvantages (namely; they are more vulnerable but more mobile and cheaper).

The primary construction for VC is a tunnel which, if more than one is built, become a tunnel network. They can be entered and traversed by all VC and also act as a means for calling in VC units (all of which are infantry).

The VC equivalent of tents are tunnel chambers. Any tunnel entrance can be selected and turned in to a specific chamber (medical, supply or command) and troops moved to that tunnel can make use of its benefits.

There is one main currency for both sides; command points, which can be gained by killing enemy troops, and possibly capturing and holding certain locations. Buildings, however, would be constructed using resources, which would be bought with command points.

I won't go into any more depth right now, but one point I would like to make is that it would be in a realistic style, including graphics. e.g. no self constructing buildings, no teleporting soldiers. everything seen could happen in reality. When we see a construction being built, we would see the builders bringing in each individual piece (thankfully this would never involve anything more complex than a couple of tent poles and a canopy. If this were a problem I might just limit it to 'areas' rather than tents).

Any feedback or questions on this would be much appreciated.

I think it should be possible.

Great idea, good luck ;)

Surely that could be changed by directly editing the source code though? Have any mods done that?

Not many if any mods even touch the source code, as its painfully difficult for a person who doesn't know how ot code. If you do, then by all means you can do ANYTHING with the game, but it takes lots of work as XML is relatively simple to understand and work with, and is pretty powerful.
