Glest 2.1-rc1 Released
« on: 4 March 2007, 19:09:32 »
Hello,

After a really long time, a new version of the game is here, two small features were added:

- Scenarios: They are preset map settings defined in an xml file, they can be accessed via the main menu.
- Improved stats: Now the results screen shows more information about the factions in the game, like faction type, controller etc...

The new data and win32 binaries can be downloaded from here:

http://http://www.glest.org/files/glest_2.1-rc1.zip (No longer available)

Just uncompress the data over 2.0.0.

The source code is in here:

http://http://glest.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/glest/

Note that we are not using CVS anymore, the most recent version is only in the SNV repository.

:o

whoa, you mean scenarios as in playing a game campaign?

that's a challenging aspect there, but I would still like the game.

Offtopic:
I tried other rts games and they have some hard (scripted) maps in their scenarios *coughs* Wesnoth *coughs* singleplayer hard *coughs* *coughs*

Anyways, are there any plans for this project?

do you think these are small features? can you imagine what does it mean in the Glest history?

let me think about this...

preset map settings don't seem to be a major change.

all that is to me is that your just change the way how the game will be played like making the AI into different or the same team. I would definitely hate to fight 3 AI players from the same team  :o .

As for the improved stats.

it's always nice to see some details here and there, but too much details on complicating game play will be hardly understandable to enjoy this game.

Translations:
CustomGame=Szabad játék
Difficulty=Nehézség
Difficulty0=Nagyon könnyű
Difficulty1=Könnyű
Difficulty2=Közepes
Difficulty3=Nehéz
Difficulty4=Nagyon nehéz
Difficulty5=Őrult
Scenario=Hadjárat

Magyar 2.1.0.

The scenario is currently running as name of hadjárat, however, there is no normal translation is that. the hadjárats exactly translation is campaign.

also, its the same for the insane, which cant be translated to hungarian, as difficulity level.

the custom game is translated as free game.

other:
RV, you might not think that the preset maps are not major changes, but it was not supported before in the glest. (well physically these are custom game with scripted team, and cpu settings).

the improved stats are coming after the game, so it did not make anything for my ingame experience.

EDIT: sorry, but i not tested the new languages: every word are went to right side, and some are not really on the buttons they would have to be.

ok, I think you made your point on the game's progress. I have not been that long to see the game actually blossom.

language translation is a cool feature though.

its seems like you are imply that the game also have those scenarios or campaign things so I'm going to assume it haves that. Gotta go see it for myself.

Yes, they are not a major change that's why I said they are small features, but it is always nice to have some preset configurations to compare yourself to other players and know how good you are at the game.

I've try
svn co http://glest.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/glest glest
and recieve something like:
svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/viewvc/glest'
svn: PROPFIND of '/viewvc/glest': 301 Moved (http://glest.svn.sourceforge.net)

So, I've try
svn co https://glest.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/glest glest
and it works.
Now I have 2.1rc1 sources.
But where can I take 2.1rc1 data files?
In main menu there are messages like "???Scenarios???" and "???Custom games???"
Or nothing in data files have been changed and I can simply add lines
CustomGames = Custom Game
Scenarios = Scenarios
to /glest/data/lang/english.lng and that's all?

I looked in the svn and releases and they aren't there. It could just be they havn't been uploaded yet. Did changing the language file work for the messages?

Well...
 Here is my little HOWTO to get glest-data-2.1rc1 when you have SVN sources of glest-2.1rc1 and data files from glest-data-2.0.

 1. Get SVN sources of glest-2.1rc1.
 svn co https://glest.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/glest/trunk glest
 or
 svn co https://glest.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/glest glest
 (I don't remember exactly).
 Compile it, install it.

 2. File /data/core/menu/menu.xml
 There must be added following lines to <camera>:
 <custom-game-position x="5" y="10" z="40"/> (numbers are not significant)
 <scenario-position x="4" y="11" z="-13"/>
 and
 <custom-game-rotation x="0" y="-40" z="0"/>
 <scenario-rotation x="0" y="20" z="0"/>

 Ok, now you can start glest, but on main menu buttons "???Custom Game???" and "???Scenarios???" are displayed with "???" and NOT working.

 3. Now you have to get scenarios files. Most simple way -- download glest_2.1-rc1.zip (398 Kb) for windows. You can get it here: http://www.glest.org/files/glest_2.1-rc1.zip

 In this archive you can found all needful scenarios. Extract scenarios to folder /scenarios.
 IMPORTANT NOTE: Under linux you should not forget to create symlink from /usr/share/glest/scenarios -> ~/.glest/scenarios

 4. File /data/lang/english.lng
 Here must be added following lines:
 CustomGame=Custom Game
 Difficulty=Difficulty
 Scenarios=Scenarios

 Well... it's almost done. But now I can see Difficulty Settings as:
 ???Difficulty0???, ???Difficulty1???, ???Difficulty2???, and so on.
 After half an hour of thinking I still can't figure out how to set them right.

 But all other things are working still.

Those ???Scenarios and custom games??? are because of the translation, which stuck in 200 (expect Hungarian :) ) you have not just add these lines above, check back, what else do you need.

i dont wanted to copypaste it, but its easier this way:

Control=Control
CustomGame=Custom Game
Cpu=CPU

Discount=Discount
Difficulty=Difficulty
Difficulty0=Very Easy
Difficulty1=Easy
Difficulty2=Medium
Difficulty3=Hard
Difficulty4=Very Hard
Difficulty5=Insane
Ep=EP

Shadows=Shadows
Scenario=Scenario
Sight=Sight

these are from the original
           <custom-game-position x="15" y="15" z="2"/>
      <scenario-position x="15" y="13" z="2"/>

      <custom-game-rotation x="0" y="0" z="0"/>
      <scenario-rotation x="0" y="0" z="0"/>

also, in your scenarios folder, there should be something like that

anarchy.xml

which contains

<?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes" ?>
<scenario>
<players>
   <player control="human" faction="tech" team="1"/>
   <player control="cpu" faction="magic" team="2"/>
   <player control="cpu" faction="tech" team="3"/>
   <player control="cpu" faction="magic" team="4"/>
</players>
<map value="four_rivers"/>
<tileset value="winter_forest"/>
<tech-tree value="magitech"/>
</scenario>

try it.
