Online game based off the g3d-engine
« on: 1 April 2007, 19:39:59 »
Hello, i am new here.

I am planning to make an online game based on the g3d engine.

First of all: I want to ask for permission to do such thing.

So my problem is that i don´t know how to include an MP mode.

The multiplayer mode should work like the one of a shooter: it must be possible to join a game while it is running yet.

You have our permission, and I wish you good luck because you are going to need it.

you would need to get the source code, make any modifications needed for MP, compile it, and you're done(don't ask me how cause i dont know).

for about the way it works, i suggest you make a LOCAL LAN based MP first(it's easier) and use programs such as Hamachi to make it online

anyway, good luck

there is another rts www.inhumangames.com/trash/ that is almost the opposite of glest
glest has good graphics, smart AI, and cool units.
trash has
Stupid AI, multiplayer, cool units but you have to pay to get an extra race, and has a rating system.
but overall "glest is the best"

If you ask so, are you sure you want to do such huge think, without any knowledge how things work?

You should first of all maybe try to get the first real mod(not only some scripting stuff) for glest with you models. Though the major part in graphics (unwrapping and texturing) isn't done, I hope for it. If you have done so, you maybe find someone who has knowledge only a little bit how to do a game.

I do not want to affront. I only want to say, start with small steps. Starting a    all-in-one device suitable for every purpose is probably not the way to get along with no knowledge in this way. I am really interested in the mod.

A good reason to start small. Each small task done motivates you to finish the next. It also saves effort/time/resources if you realize it was something you didn't want to do anyway.

That's why I always say:
Release often ,early and also unfinished things. By this you get some kind of net-backup and hopefully some motivating feedback from others.

( And don't forget your model-files/texture files/sourcecodes )
For the indians I also didn't release everything and I think it was not a good idea. Some of my models are also lost now ( I deleted them :-/ ). But I will release everything I have.
