Glest BitTorrent Distribution
« on: 6 April 2007, 02:06:35 »
Hi all,

I run http://http://ostorr.org, an open source torrent tracker, and I'm investigating running a Glest torrent after a request from a user. I understand Glest is hosted on SourceForge, so a major reason for running the torrent - saving bandwidth - is ruled out, and I'm still considering if a torrent for Glest would make sense.

Having managed open source torrents for a while, I know that BitTorrent distribution really requires support of the community. Would the Glest project endorse, or at least mention to users, a torrent of the project's files?

Having an official torrent is useful, and especially good for users on slower connections as BitTorrent is practically a perfect download manager with full pausing/resuming, but I was hoping for some input from people familiar with the project before making the decision. What do you people, the players, think of using BitTorrent for download Glest? Would you seed the project? Would you rather stick to SourceForge?

Please let me know of your opinions, I'd love to hear what you think.

Also, just in case people are wondering, the site is totally non profit, with minimal running costs (I pay for the hosting).

i think that having both would be good, so as to let people decide where they want to get from.
