no because these are different units, they have diffent resources, and even if it was it is legal to reproduce wc3 stuff as long as its free. if you look at the units not many of them are like warcraft 3.

ok how about we come up with new units like an undead snake charmer who can summon snakes that die after 40 seconds but the snakes need 3 kills to become elite and 7 to become master?
and a skelaton like "the other hive king" is working on, i meen if we come up with new units it wont even resemble warcraft 3

your right i mean if we do this it show that we arnt creative enough to come up with something of our own. so kucac is saying we should cancel or is he saying we should be creative?

my name is kukac  >:(  it might sound the same in english, but not in hungarian!

i would like to say the second option. we did not have seen any creativity in the gaming projects of the last 10 years (just look at the MMORPGs!!!!). they are just copying each other. i feel, that the game industry need more creativity. look: "second world war", "elves, orcs". arent you bored them?

yeah these are getting boring nowadays, not that they're not cool, it's that everybody want something new.

so maybe replacing the copied units with fresh newly created ones, or maybe replace them with similar creatures with the same purpose/function ?

Undead Eqytians  :D

I don't think it needs to be completely original, just something that is different to RTS games. Maybe think of characters from books or movies, they could provide inspiration.

I suppose they would be  :-[

I reckon shape shifters would be good but as a distraction unit that would lower the enemies morale. The attack and defense would be smaller than actual unit it looks like.

A little run-in...
« Reply #43 on: 23 April 2007, 05:55:22 »
kk, I see there's a lot of ideas running about with arguable creativity.

If there's so much original ideas, why not made something new from the old school ideas? Like say we want undead, but don't want that to be a copy of the other undead idea we see.

My suggestion is that to make a completely fictional cult that will use the undead (or something) because they believe immortality can be achieved. The followers of the cult wanted to keep their lives as they see many others expiring from death, and this is why they take a part of this bleak cult. Some wanted to bring back family, friends, and beloved ones. Others seek security from harm and shivered at the thought of their own end. Despite different backgrounds, the cultists mustered both skills in magic and technology (in the medical field and chemistry) to finally create the undead. The undead is not the cultists had in mind of immortality, but any success had them believed strongly in their efforts.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry for the detailed story, just my suggestion.
I thought about the undead using cold-base attacks and ain't the ice element already have that? Since we are talking about the undead, we can use 'death-based attacks' like plagues and rotting decay. That says dead to me.  :idea:
Ninjas or mutant people/animals. Might be a bit too much like Ninja Turtles though. Maybe a race that uses steroids to become stronger.
@theotherhiveking:
Did you ever created an animating model with blender which could successfully exported to glest?
If you've got one please please please send me the blenderfile.
(email:  info aat titusgames.de). I want to learn it too!
Hi all
I've modded glest before but have always had a problem when it comes to exporting to g3d (i use blender). I've been keeping an eye on this topic for a while and have finally decided to post a model I have been working on over the past few days for the wraith unit along with a zip containing the .blend files. If anyone wants to export them (i'm not sure how compatible the models are - they're animated etc) ,make use of them or re-txture them, go ahead :D
Yes comments :)
I also tried to export (wraith attacking) to glest, but it failed.
(Glexemel said error ....)
I think one of the main problems is, that I can still see quads in the model.
They must be converted to Triangles before exporting to glest.
I know that you get very different errors when exporting models with quads to glest. You can try to fix this to get a working model.
Another problem is, that you probabaly fogot to apply scale and rotation on your objects before you exported to glest.
At the moment I for myself am only able to create non-animating glest models ( because I'm new to blender ).
Cheers for looking at it.
The model itself is actually triangulated, though it is hard to see in render (and i haven't smoothed them out much). I have been playing around with the exporter for a while and i've managed to export a couple of models but they don't appear animated and are rotated round the wrong way and stretched, etc. How do you apply rotation,scaling + positioning? :confused:
