blender script problem
« on: 28 June 2007, 13:17:56 »
i downloaded blender import and i found this message:

#       Copy this Script AND g3d_logo.png into .Blender\scripts
#       directory then start inside blender Scripts window
#       "Update Menus" after that this Script here is accesible
#       as 'Wizards' G3d Fileformat Im/Exporter

i done all that, but when i click on G3d Fileformat Im/Exporter in Wizards i get this message:
python script error: check console

i use blender 2.44

what to do?

I assume you must have python installed. Python is a programming language and a runtime-environment like java for example.
you could use version 2.5 for example:

When i go to download python, i have to choose something of this. i use winXP, i do not use x86 processor and i do not use 64 bit. i choose last  option. from sourceforge i choose to download pywin32-210

is that ok? i am just downloading it.

BTW what should i use to import KMZ files into blender? i think it need some extension or script again. where i can download it? (i want to send files from google sketchup saving it as google earth file (.kmz)

    Windows

    For x86 processors: python-2.5.1.msi

    For Win64-Itanium users: python-2.5.1.ia64.msi

    For Win64-AMD64 users: python-2.5.1.amd64.msi

This installer allows for automated installation and many other new features.

To use these installers, the Windows system must support Microsoft Installer 2.0. Just save the installer file to your local machine and then run it to find out if your machine supports MSI.

Windows XP and later already have MSI; many older machines will already have MSI installed.

If your machine lacks Microsoft Installer, you'll have to download it freely from Microsoft for Windows 95, 98 and Me and for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000.

Windows users may also be interested in Mark Hammond's win32all package, available from Sourceforge. win32all adds a number of Windows-specific extensions to Python, including COM support and the Pythonwin IDE.

I have blender 2.42 and the KMZ import is under file > import > Google earth kmz. It is a script, but it came with version 2.42, preinstalled. If you don't have it, you could probably Google it or find it on the Blender website, though.

    @andy:

I think you have an x86 Processor ( windows is always x86 ).
Did you read the errors on the console?
    What does it say?
I think you already have python installed ( included in blender ), so there is another problem!

The console is the dos (or whatever) window that pops up with blender. It should be hard to miss... Maybe you have a really weird version or something... What processor do you have and what version did you download?

    "No installed Python found."
I'm sorry but the problem is still Python.
In order to solve this you could reinstall everything, uninstall blender and phython and then install Blender and after it Phyton. You better use a version higher 2.5, so 2.4 may work but 2.5 feels better ;).

The script for export should work. But there are other scripts like the import scripts. In Blender they are called and accessed as "wizard" (you have simple colorfull buttons, with the glestsword logo).
These need some python librarys in order to uncompile the g3d (rough explanation: g3d is binary code, some kind of number-file in whitch only values are storen one afer another, the xml files are real textfiles and have a text description for each value).
